Coob Tuning for 991.1 Carrera S

    Hi to all of you.

Some weeks ago COOB Tuning has introduced Accessport support for 991.1 Carrera S. The graph gains look really nice. What is the secret ? Do you think that those gains are true just with software ? It´s very similar, even better than factory powerkit.

Do you think Is it safe for the engine ? Do any of you have any experience with this ?

RC, what is you personal advice concerning this mod ?

    Best regards,

Simple advice: For n/a cars, so called "chip tuning" is basically worthless. I wouldn't do it. Not worth it, especially not for a few horses. The comparison data you showed is also worthless since there is a dyno error margin of at least +/- 2%. A 2015 car would still have a warranty, why risk it for the sake of 20 horses more (if you are lucky)? Also, the additional 27 horses (if true, I still have my doubts, even with higher octane fuel), would only improve performance in the upper 100+ mph range. Overall, not worth it. Honestly. I also doubt the numbers, without proper exhaust system/cat convertor mods, doubtful.

If you want to tune your car, get a Porsche powerkit retrofit. Or sell your car and get a used GTS or powerkit model. Or get a GT3. Or get the new 991.2 Carrera S.

Don't do it, not worth it.

Here is a comparison to the Porsche Powerkit (30 hp more):

    normal-10.jpg

    • modified cylinder heads and camshafts
    • newly developed variable resonance intake system featuring 6 plus 1 switchable valves
    • center radiator
    • optional Sport Exhaust System with specially designed dual twin-tube tailpipes
    • revised engine control unit including new engine compartment styling with a titanium colored cover and carbon inserts

These parts have been changed for the Powerkit in the 991.1 Carrera S engine. As you can see, not just a simple software upgrade. Porsche also added an additional center radiator! For 30 hp more only!

So how do you think a company would get almost the same power with a different software mapping only? Another thing: The graph you posted is for a US car. It is very likely that your car is adapted for 93 octane US (98 octane Europe) fuel already. If you want to tune your car in Europe, use a European tuner who has experience with the European models and engine setups! No serious Porsche tuner in Europe actually offers a chip tuning for the n/a Carrera S though. Doesn't make sense!

    Very good advice RC.

    Thanks a lot.

I have Cobb Accessport for my Evo and it is great to swap between ECU files for gasoline and E85 fuel.  I would never bother with my GT4 though.  I agree that gains on new NA cars is minimal and not worth sacrificing warranty or reliability.
