get the same deal on an x6m and go for it without thinking twice.....unless you need 3 seats in the back.

What is the advantage of the X6M compared to the X5M, besides its novelty value, which might wear off come resale time?

The speed is there in both. Slightly, better handling perhaps for the X6? You don't buy a car of this type to do play on the circuit. There are more dedicated cars for that purpose.

Same car, just different looks. Either you love or you hate it. For me the latter. Smiley

A clever marketing move on behalf of BMW, however. At little marginal cost they have created a new sub-niche to keep the novelty buyers happy and spending Smiley

    Re: BMW X5 M & X6 M

Amazing, such a deal for a brand new model!

Anyhow - you are right, this car is a bargain compared to the Cayenne Turbo. Question is, will it perform comparable?

    Re: BMW X5 M & X6 M

i was really looking forward to the cayenne turbo 2.0 until the x6 came out.

once i had received and driven my x6 all doubt that the x6m was going to be my next suv was gone.

it really is a very cool car and the x6m will outperform the standard turbo and also the turbo s unless that comes with 600 horses.

    Re: BMW X5 M & X6 M

Abiding by the tick tock theory I think the Cayenne 2.0 will have the same engines as the current one.

It is yet to be proven the X5-6M will outperform the Cayenne TTS.

    Re: BMW X5 M & X6 M

that's exactly the problem. cayenne will come with standard 500 hp engine as current one.

    x6m will have 555hp and a full-on street suspension.

I suspect that with this trend of SUVs that don't go off-road, Porsche will offer the transfer case and the rest of the off-road features as optional extras. The basic Cayenne.2 could very well be a full-on road car with AWD. Mercedes have done the same with the current ML.

    That would be nice actually.

intouch1: how much hp do you really need? My 04 CTT already smokes almost everything on the street...

as much as i can get and then some.

seriously, i never felt my cayenne turbo (450) was too powerful. i felt it can easily handle another 100 hp.

it's not about racing or tracking..it's simply about popping the eyes in the back of the head when stepping on it to get from 40-100 Smiley

and that is a very cool feeling in a big suv as it makes you feel it's defying the laws of physics.

a 550 hp suv makes more sense to me than a 400 hp c-class.

    Re: BMW X5 M & X6 M

I own a Cayenne Turbo S 1st gen with 521 HP and although this "truck" does 0-100 kph in 5.4 sec and 0-200 kph in 18.9 sec (tested in a german car magazine), I never felt that it has too much power. I'm very spoiled regarding power, so maybe a power figure of 600 HP would satisfy me in a Cayenne, nothing less.

Yes, I think that the X5/X6 M have the right power, performance seems to be great (0-100 kph in 4.7 sec and rumored 0-200 in 17 sec), so this could be my next family car.

Porsche will surely add more horses to the next gen Cayenne, base power has already been raised from 500 HP in the early development stages to something "around" 530 HP.

I guess that the final base model of the next gen Cayenne will have aprox. 540-550 HP and maybe 100 kg less weight compared to the current Cayenne generation. This should be enough to provide the same or slightly better performance compared to the competition from BMW and others but it may not be enough to completely blow away the competition.

For their current estimated price tag, the new X5/X6 M are real bargains.

    Re: BMW X5 M & X6 M

Well, I will let you know next week if the current TTS has enough power

Wife doesn't like the X5M so it is an easy decision.

    Re: BMW X5 M & X6 M

Sorry, the "official" X5M/X6M performance figure from 0-200 kph (0-125 mph) is 16.9 seconds. Pretty impressive for a "truck" but not as impressive as I expected when I heard about the X5M early this year.

Top speed (upon request) is 275 kph (usually 250 kph).

Now an interesting rumor: BMW is considering to offer some sort of M Performance Package for the X5M/X6M. The Performance Package could add another 25 HP, bringing the engine power from 555 HP to 580 HP. Another source even indicates a flat 600 HP power figure.

If true, this means that BMW wants to beat Porsche in every single domain. The upcoming BMW 7 series with the new V12 and 544 HP is another proof and guess what, it will be cheaper than the Panamera Turbo.

To answer your question:  can the current Cayenne Turbo S  facelift beat the X5M/X6M?

Not very likely. However: the difference is very small, almost marginal.
