Re: Need help: Replacement RS3 (old) - RS3 (new)?

    WAY:

Rossi I think I can help a bit here. I was recently looking for a small hatch for us to use as a city car, and to put roof racks on so we can transport our bikes when my little boy and I want to go ride on trails etc. The main contenders were RS3, A45 and M135i. We also considered GLA45 and RSQ3. I test drove all of them except RSQ3 as the reviews were not very positive. In the end it came down to RS3 and M135i (A45 was just too frantic and boy racer. I have other cars that are more hardcore so I don't need that!). RS3 is just intoxicating with the 5 cylinder sound, but in the end I found the car to be a bit boring for my liking, and the throttle and gear shifts were just too lazy unless you put it into sports mode. It has such tremendous grip that it really is a point and shoot car in the twisties, and it under steered more than the BMW at the limit. The BMW is much more fun as you are constantly aware of the limit of grip. Sure the interior is boring as hell (I've had the pre update 135i too a couple of years ago) especially compared to the beautiful RS3 interior, but when I'm driving I don't really notice the interior. My wife has even stopped using her sedan and been using the M135i exclusively since we bought it. We both love it!

Thanks Wayne, this has been the most helpful post so far. Smiley
I'd say we feel the same about the image and the feel of an A45, nice at first sight, but tiresome long-term.

So I guess it's up between the two, RS3 and M135i. If we can't make up our minds, perhaps we should get both. Smiley

    Thanks again! Smiley

BTW: yes, the RS interior is more high-class than that of the M135i, but I don't find BMW's interiors to be boring. If you equip them the right way, means leather (which could be better quality, that's true), right colours and trim, I think BMW are not too bad, compared to the competition.

BMW interiors are pure boredom, seriously. My wife was never happier to get rid of her X3 35d and she said she would never get a BMW again after she drove the Macan for a couple of weeks. Of course this is a matter of taste but even the 7 series interior looks boring, so go figure.

I think it all depends on how you define "boredom".

    Agreed. Smiley

Second one I would describe with cheap. Smiley

... but maybe quite expensive for the manhood. Smiley

That would be vulgar. In other words, a B****  Smiley

I'm with Rossi ans scifrog. The first lady is ten times better. Just imagine the second one without make-up and her hair done...  like when she wakes up every morning... you won't even be able to recognize her.

The first one will look good fresh, young and beautiful at any moment of the day.

I tried the Audi S3 and thought the engine was horrible, boring drone and dreadful turbo lag (unless there was  a fault with the car I drove). As others have said the interior of the BMW M135 would put me off, although the straight six and rear wheel drive is great.

The RS3 is pricey, I've not driven one but the characterful five cyl would probably overcome the issues I had with the S3, and no one (in the affordable car bracket) does interiors as fine as Audi. If we didn't have our Boxster I would look very hard at the RS3. SmileyReminds me in a way of the Delta Integrale I had many years ago.

Yeah because she doesn't wear any make-up, right? Wrong. Smiley

I would call this vulgar... (Beckham in her old days...)

    Beckham.jpg

Which reminds me of the husband of one of my wife's friends: He always claims that he loves the natural look of his wife (especially when we meet and the other wives are looking sexy and his looks...well...ordinary Smiley), she couldn't care less about her looks but she isn't sloppy or so, just not very talented in improving herself. Well, whenever an attractive woman walks by (or one of the other wives Smiley), he is starring at her. I once talked to him about it and he claims that he loves the look of this wife but whenever I watch him, his behavior and wandering eyes tell me a different story. Smiley Smiley

Not that it has something to do with the RS3 discussed here... Smiley

Back to topic: I like the A45 performance a lot, especially the latest version is very quick but I can't get used to the look of this car, it just reminds me somehow of the "old" Mercedes A class and I always associate the A class with old people. Not that this would be a problem for Rossi's parents (I guess they aren't 30 anymore Smiley) but I don't know, I like the RS3 much more.
