+1, white doesn't work on this car imo.

Funny, that picture reminded me of  photos of various 90X prototype race cars in the factory forecourt from the ‘60s. I like it… Very simple look which recalls those cars.

    Re: 918 latest news

    Exactly my thoughts/association.

Maybe even better with a red front bonnet like the 906 in the 964 RS Meeting at Zolder thread

    Re: 918 latest news

This car in white needs the optional livery, either the Martini or the Salzburg one to breakup and highlight the lines on the car.

Or the white needs to be matte white warp to cut down on the extra glare.

    Re: 918 latest news

Or a Pearlecent White, like the Motor Show 959 (Gruppe B) of 1981.

Here are the official explanations for the 'authentic' leather option and the electric heater option

    pic31322.gifpic30333.gif

    Re: 918 latest news

The explanation still does not warrant the outrageous price Smiley

BTW - thanks very much for sharing your 918 ordering experience. I look forward to the journey until delivery and beyond Smiley

    Re: 918 latest news

I am just glad to have someone to share the experience with as my wife nor my sons still doesn't know yet , still wondering how my wife is gonna kill me when she learnt I just spent a million dollars on a CAR

As for the 26k leather option, I am glad I didn't order it, seeing it is thicker it must weight more haha.

The electric heater however I am kind of interested, knowing for my normal everyday driving I will be on the batteries a lot, but then again I am not sure how much driving I will be doing when the weather warrants the heating function.

My dealer also sent me pictures from the configurator on the wheel options. The Mg spyder wheels, the 32k option, seems REALLY expensive, but I am not quite sold on the standard 918 spyder wheel. The option platinum finish on the 918 standard wheel, however, has a silk gloss finish on the whole wheel, it's not quite matte but not shiny either, and the color is more like a titanium grey finish, looks very tempting, this finish instantly turned the standard 918 wheel design into something very nice.

But then again since I, like most here, are a customer of Porsche, we kind of know how Porsche do with their option pricing.

    Re: 918 latest news

Whoopsy can I come visit to see the car and do a wall poster sketch in return? wink

I am head over heels in love with this car. I didn't think Porsche could do such an amazing job. It's like a technical marvel such as the 959 and had sex with the CGT. I love child that puts Porsche ahead of all competition simply because it is the more daily driver and by far the best looking of all new supercars. The above shot in white, look at the rear!!! It's so much for Porsche to go so fresh and modern... yet it reminds you instantly of a Porsche... if anything a racing Porsche.

How about I do one better, next when I take delivery of the car I come pick you up and we go for lunch or dinner?

    Re: 918 latest news

I'm going to be controversial once again: I would love to see this car in Cream with the mocca brown and orange piping interior (break calipers would need to be painted matching orange). I think the car would look very elegant. In spite of my passion for motorsport (especially Porsche motorsport), I think that the "racing car" look is for racing cars, and street cars should look sporty but elegant at the same time. I know this will make some of you livid and in this day and age, some might even be offended. If that is the case, rest easy. I get offended every day and I have to live with it.

    Re: 918 latest news

In the past especially 60s, racing cars looks elegant too, with their curvy bodies and absence of extreme aero addenda. So a design carry over from racing to road was possible.

Nowadays, it would have looked too ungainly. Can you imagine a road car modelled after the Audi R18 e-tron, for example?

    Re: 918 latest news

Well - I'd rather have 950k price of the car and then Porsche asking me which fields I wanna tick free of charge (including luggage set of courseindecision) not knowing what $ went into the total price (for Porsche) but seeing those options would seriously p.... me off. I am sure the front lifter is pretty "familiar" to the one I have - but 10k ? 26 k for leather of such a small cabin ? - c'mon....

Even the 90s one are quite pleasing to the eyes, 911 GT1? I think it looks even better than the 962.

I just fell in love. This is such a beautiful car with a timeless design. I wish they would offer it without the hybrid technology though because of the weight... Smiley I get it, Porsche wants to prove a point but the weight will stay a challenge.

People love options...even if they have to pay for them. At least they can get them. The prices are steep indeed but if you view them in relation to the base price tag...well...not so steep anymore. Smiley

I wish there was some sort of "hybrid delete" option, I bet some owners would pay even extra for that. Smiley

Agreed, but I was looking towards having a sporty(orange) mixed with elegance (brown and cream). These three colors go beautifully together. The orange and brown provide a nice contrast to the cream. However, I do like the black/black with green piping that you have chosen. Marginally less elegant, but slightly more sporty. (PS. Black is also not Porsche. JPS Lotus comes to mind. Smiley)

    Wow, love it!
The white one looks pretty funny, as if someone was allowed to take it home and parked it on his private driveway (well, maybe that is exactly what happened?)

The only detail (looks-wise) that really bothers me is the way the front hood rests on top of the lights unit, and the non-flush way in which that is done... looked better in the concept if you ask me.

    +1 That would look great.

I was thinking the metallic dark blue with the mocha and silver would be a nice combo on the existing.

To be frank though, for the price of the leather upgrade I would take it to a 3rd party and have a new leather interior done. For that price you could get something truly special and unique.

This car with a V8 turbo and/or a V10 evolution from Carrera GT, without all the (unnecessary)  hybrid hardware and selling for around 250.000 EUR would have been a huge success. No one would be mentioning the McLaren 12C, and the 458 would have a real rival in performance and prestige.

    Re: 918 latest news

And it will be firmly in Gallardo territory, not sure Piech will allow another entry into that space. As it is, the R8 already stealing some sales from Lambo.

A 911 Turbo S is almost there, but at least it's a completely different configuration, rear engine with 4 seats.

    Re: 918 latest news

The 918 is a $650k car... No more. It will have epic depreciation (under 550k after 3-4 years). They simply are going to make too many of them. The hybrid technology is going to march on at a tremendous rate with better batteries and engines, leaving the 918 outdated even faster than any previous Porsche supercars.

    Re: 918 latest news

WOW, over a million miles in testing the car! Very impressive.

I would wager La Ferrari has less than 20,000 miles if that.

My thoughts exactly. IMO it's not the time to buy a hybrid sportscar now. You can buy hybrid mini cars if you want to salve your green conscience, but a hyper car like the 918 is a no-go for me.
As SF said we will see dramatic development in this sector, with lighter batteries, longer distances and more powerful e-engines.
