    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

Will the four wheel drives and the targa have their own introduction?  I see that they are not listed yet.  I hope it will not take another 6 months for Porsche to introduce an already known design.

Can't help the feeling this 991.2 is going to be like the 996.1... the one to carry over a big change which needed another generation to get it right, and once that next generation is out it will be left as one of the least desirable 911 versions, like 1the 996, caught between the classic aircooled 993 and the modern 997. This 991.2 feels like an interim solution that will lack what the previous 997-991.1 had and what the next 992 gen will bring fully developed in a new gen, and thus once the 992 is out, will be left in a bad in between place.

    Carlos,

I respect your opinion a lot. But, here you speak as 991.1 GTS fan club member. I can understand it and fully accept that point of view.

Just, maybe the wisest way is to wait for first real tests or even better personal test drive before forming or expressing final opinion about 991.2 and its merrits?

Official 0-200km/h for CS with LC is 12.9s

Official Ring time with SPASM/PDCC, PDK, RWS on street P Zeros is 7.34min or 6s faster then 991.1CS with all drive goodies.

New options that will be introduced with C4/C4S models will include 450ps power kit, new sport design kit and new aero kit.

Btw, German price list and catalogue are on German Porsche web site in pdf.

That is a respectable Ring time for only 420hp in a every day all year round car Smiley

Don't get me wrong, I'm speaking in a longer timescale point of view. 991.1 or GTS is not the issue and I'm trying to be fullly objective. For example I do not hold the same opinion at all for the 991.2 Turbo or any likely any other 991.2 model, just the 991.2 Carrera.

Just think that the turbocharged carrera concept wont be fully realised until the 992, don't see the 991.2 bringing anything to the table, but the 992 being made from the ground up will sure do. I'm sure its faster but the 996 was faster than the 993 but was it desirable after the 997 came out? not really, it became the least of all 911 models.

And the 991.2 is left in between like the 996, it  neither has the atmospheric engine sound and feel of the 997-991.1, nor the full integrated advancement of a new generation 992, and in between models always get a bad image once the new gen is out, who will want a 991.2 when the 992 is out? what will be desirable about it? I can see people appreciating 997-991.1 GT3's for example. Feels like an in between step that the had to do due to regulations now mid way through this generation.

Even turbocharging in the Carreras actually feels like a temporary solution until 918 like hybrid tech can be used in the 991 mainstream models.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

I think this 911 model will be an even bigger Hit for Porsche.

The look is within the 911 style of the last 20 years and those (too many) who liked the previous models will like this one too.

The power is very respectable for a daily sportscar (there will be even more with the powerkit)  and the torque increase will prove very useful for real world performance AND better drivability.

The RWSteering and the front lift are very welcome options, albeit quite expensive.

The low CO2 is a big bonus for markets with high emission taxes. I've done my exercise already and in our market there will be a reduction of €10.000 in tax compared to a 991 GTS.

Last but not least GT Silver is not charged as a special colour but just as a metallic colour saving another €1.000

My only proviso is for the large amounts of unpainted black plastic to be of top quality, so that they don't get permanently soiled or turn white thus needing continuous attention and maintenance.

At first sight but s.t. further scrutiny,  the advance from 991.1 to 991.2 seems bigger than the one from 997.2 to 991.1.

A smaller steering wheel is optional.

Interesting since it is the same size as paddles steering wheel in 991.1 models (375mm). You can get option GT steering wheel which is 360mm which I personally find little bit too small.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

The Sport Exhaust reminds me of all the Beetles my mother had when I was a kid, I love it!

And overall the stance of the car is increased which is good and MM thankfully has refrained from introducing 'bags under the eyes' (Traenensaecke) with the rear lights, so that speaks for the aesthetics of this car.

I am sure it will be a pleasure to drive, i am not so sure you want to spend that kind of money on a 3 liter engine, turbo or not.  But it will sell like hotcakes of course...

40kg heavier? Only 0.2s 0-100 faster with the turbo engines? Was expecting much better than that... Ferrari California T 0.4s faster... With the right options a C4S convertible will easily reach $140k...

Hah, got to love it when people start comparing tenths of a second acceleration time. Like it matters in real life.

The new 991.2 Carrera S cabriolet is still 125kg lighter than the California T and I am pretty sure it does not lap the Ring anywhere near 7:34 Smiley So in real life, the new Carrera will run circles around the California T Smiley

It is a nice color. Also I noticed that the carpet color in the Espresso/Cognac interior appears to now be espresso rather than cognac.

    40kg heavier?

Maybe that explains why the studio floor appears to be collapsing under the weight of the cars above.

The sport exhaust is not my cup of tea, especially with the Turbo vents on the side the wider pipes looks better IMO.

honestly i doubt that. i read a companion test cali T and turbo S cab, which the turbos S cab won, but only barely.

These are more accurate photo's of Graphitblau (read lifelike) than that heavily edited studio shots. They were taken by Eduardo over on Rennteam.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2016 Porsche 911 [991.2]

I just watched the official trailer, and as I have noted before, Porsche has a tendency to vacillate between engineering excellence and marketing hype.  That trailer highlights the latter, I never thought I would see Porsche officially focusing on a new door handle profile.  However, the new car does have other, more significant advantages.
