    Adaptive Sport Seats

    2005/2006 Owners:
one of my biggest concerns about my upcoming 997 purchase is the seat comfort. I am 6'4" and approx 225 lbs. I sat in a 2005 Carrera (it had stock electronic seats) the other day and headroom was not an issue, but I could feel the wings (not sure of the technical term, but this is the part of the chair that touches your thighs on the left and right) on the bottom of the seat digging into my thighs. The dealer said they could add extra cushion, but that I might want to consider the Adaptive sport seats. I noticed a few of the owners in this forum have these seats and i'd be interested on getting your opinion on a few things:
    1. can these seats adjust to be wider in the sitting area than that standard seats?
    2. are these seats more comfortable overall compared to the standard seats (i.e. are the adjustment zones airbags or metal parts, etc.)?

Any direction is truly appreciated. Also, if there are other larger size guys out there that have the 997 i'd be curious how you found the standard or adaptive seats in terms of comfort.

    Thank you,
    marco

    Re: Adaptive Sport Seats

I like the adaptive sport seats A LOT!!! they are great, you can adjust the bolsters by your legs, and by your sides

i cant tell you exactly the diff between the standard seats... just try to see if you can sit in both before you order

    Re: Adaptive Sport Seats

    Marco,

    Welcome!

Do a search- this is a hot topic brother! Several tall P owners love the adaptive seats.

I'm in the same situation: 6'6", 250. I've only tried the standard seats so far- still waiting for my dealer to locate the adaptive seats. I'm pretty sure I'll order them!

    Re: Adaptive Sport Seats

    Here's a pic

    Re: Adaptive Sport Seats

What I know for sure is that the adaptive sports seats are comfortable even on long drives. [SF to CARMEL] the leg bolsters can be adjusted to go tight or loose, loose enough that my friend who is 6'0 295lbs sat in it and opened her up wide.. he said it was a good fit.

other ajustments are the lumbar and the side bolsters, you also get the memory function.

    Re: Adaptive Sport Seats

Are the leg bolsters pure air bags? or is there still a metal bar in the side of the thigh support? Asked differently (referring to the picture) can you press down those leg bolsters with your hand almost flat, or do you feel a metal bar in them...

    tooner,

OT- are those the option silver belts? Look sweet!

Yup!... nice little touch to finish the interior.

That's something to try... will report tomorrow...

It is remarkably soft... my pet peeve... it gets dirty easy

    Re: Adaptive Sport Seats

I dont think it's air... is it?

    Re: Adaptive Sport Seats

I'm on the big side too. I ordered the adaptive sport seats. Thanks to all the helpful comments here (thanks again everyone!) I ordered them without ever sitting in them (none available in showroom). My point: if I do find that they're uncomfortable I'm sure there's a well-regarded custom car upholster somewhere nearby who can make some minor but very helpful changes to the seats.

    Go for it (them)!

    Re: Adaptive Sport Seats

I was able to try the adaptive and standard seats in a 2005 Boxster, as they are apparently identical to those in the 911. I'm 5'11 145lbs and while I loved the adaptive seats, the standard were perfectly good for me as well. I chose to keep the standard. The electric seat function is key, though, to make minor adjustments (which I am still doing after 2 weeks) - even if you are the only driver.

    It's air.

I checked today and did not feel any metal bars... but it is air and if you press on to loosen it doesn't seem to be any wider but rather softer...
