    Negotiating 987S purchase

I know that negotiating the price on a vehicle is somewhat of an art - I'm interested in seeing what % of MSRP 987/987S owners were able to negotiate and HOW they did that. I'm interested in ordering one (06 987S) and would like to do my homework before I go to the lions lair (er. dealer's office). Is 7% off MSRP realistic? When I initially spoke to the dealer a couple of weeks ago, he told me that he never sold a boxster before for 7% off. Is he pulling my leg? What should I shoot for? I live in Canada and there is not much competition here (only 2 local dealers within driving distance , only 3 in all of Ontario) Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

    Re: Negotiating 987S purchase

i got 9% discount, but im a genius. try your luck.

    Re: Negotiating 987S purchase

In part it depends if you are ordering a car or taking one off the lot. But the difference is not very large, maybe a couple of percentage points. 7% is kind of routine for some parts of the US I believe. I also think that it would be difficult for me to pony up extra bucks for an 06 compared to an 05 since there is no real difference in content. Just my opinion.

Your dealer is probably lying, but things could be different in Canada. I got 8% off an '06 987S order in the U.S., guess I'm a subgenius.

    Re: Negotiating 987S purchase

I got 2,000 off MSRP, plus free carpet, colored crests, Bose sound system, and heated seats - so it works out to just over 4K off (MSRP). I created a proposal or my dealer - showed him the widely available dealer's invoice, added my options at MSRP, and then tacked on another 5% and labeled it on the proposal as "dealer's profit".

I know it's a Porsche dealer but you can always try...

    Re: Negotiating 987S purchase

In UK you can get very little off the sticker price.
Hopefully this means stronger residuals come re-sale time.

Very little equating to 0% for most of us....

this proves my theory that the boxster is more accepted or widely popular in the uk. thats why dealers dont give discounts there (high demand)

    Re: Negotiating 987S purchase

5.5% discount on car ordered last March, 10.8% discount on an in-stock '05 when I started to look at other cars as I became frustrated waiting for mine.

    Re: Negotiating 987S purchase

    10.8% Wow!!

    Re: Negotiating 987S purchase

    got about 3% off.

    pretty good considering,
    1) we only hv one deaership in Melbourne-> monopoly
    2) I pre-ordered even b4 the car arrived on our shores
    3) dealer said absolutely no discount were given to the "average" customer as the queue was long.

so 3% is better than nothing

    Re: Negotiating 987S purchase

got 4.5% in phoenix which has only 1 dealer.

    Re: Negotiating 987S purchase

A couple of months I was negotiating here in Germany the trade in of my MY 2000 2.7 Boxster. I tested both the SLK 55 AMG and the Boxster S, and bothe gave me huge thrills. Unfortenately the Porsche salesman was offering me peanuts for my well preserved Boxster and offering me a discount on the new one of ... 0%!! As much as I liked the car, I did not find that acceptable, and I thought it was time to test something else. I will take delivery of my SLK55AMG in 3 weeks!!!

I think that in a few years I will come back to Porsche, but for now, I plan in enjoying a lot the change!

    Re: Negotiating 987S purchase

2.1%, and I bought it off the lot. That's the UK for you.

    Re: Negotiating 987S purchase

Markets vary widely. In the US dealer allotments often depend on sales volume. To increase their allotment it may be adventageous to move stock by giving increased discount. Some of the lost profit is offset by less money out on "floor plan" loans. PCNA deals directly with their franchised US dealers. In turn PCNA deals with Porsche regarding US specs and US options. For instance, PCNA offers the US market only a fraction of options offered worldwide, and only some of these relate to US DOT regs. PCNA determines what will be offered to US customers, not Porsche. What goes on in the US is not likely applicable to other world markets. You need advice from fellow Canadians and try to learn more about how the Canadian Porsche marketing structure works to obtain any really useful advice.

    Re: Negotiating 987S purchase

I checked and that car's still in inventory. I wonder what I could get it for now. If only I had an extra $50K+ lying around!

    Re: Negotiating 987S purchase

Thanks for the useful info; it's interesting to see how discounts vary throughout different regions - do you think it is a matter of how hard the purchaser negotiated or that simply certain dealerships will just not budge on price beyond a certain point?

in dubai, youre not going to get any discount on any car other than a carrera GT. you gotta wait 8 month for a cayenne s to arrive. all their up coming inventory is already called for. there is no reason for them to give any discount.

Where can you get a dealer's invoice?

I don't know how to get a dealer's invoice for MY 06. Or one that shows the dealer's cost for the options. Suggestions?

Then you must be a real genius to get a 9% off on your Boxster (or is that your Carrera GT)

Re: Where can you get a dealer's invoice?

I normally use www.edmunds.com for dealers cost info. Last time I checked, it only gave the dealer cost for the base price, not for the options, but that's still pretty helpful in itself.

Re: Where can you get a dealer's invoice?

    Here's another approach (link):
addition to invoice rather than reduction from MSRP
