    Terrible car crash

My friend, had a terrible car accident on the highway. He's fine, but the car is completely detroid. He had a beautiful Boxster S with TTP headers, intake, chip and no cats. I don't know if you remember, but I posted a side by side accelaration test we made not so long ago, that is the one. We had already schedule a day to deliver the car in Germany at TTP this month. He was going to put Sport Cams their new exhaust system that opens a inside valve at 4000Rpm, making more power without resonance(tuner claim) and a new and very eficient reprogramed motoronic box made with the car on the dino, this way they could balance all the parameters much better. We both were very curious to see what the difference in power this could bring...

He was in a empty highway at night doing 240Kph with another friend and suddenly the right rear tire blown, he could control the car, but then the tire went out of the wheel and as soon as the wheel touched the tarmac he lost it. Car went out of the hihgway and rol over several times. The passenger was still awake when the rol overs ended and could take out my friend from the car. He was uncoscent(don't know if it's the right word).

Few days after, I phoned him and he told me that the car was bad, but when I saw it with my own eyes, I couldn't believe how the guy that was inside that car was alive right beside me...talking to me...there's a God somewhere belive me.

These are shocking images of a wracked car, see it at your own risk.

You can barely say what is this:

    Re: Terrible car crash

The passenger went out with nothing and my friend went out with some scratches on his left arm...again God exist.

    Re: Terrible car crash

As you can see from this picture, the top of the windshild, is much lower that the top of my friends seat.

    Re: Terrible car crash

    Re: Terrible car crash

There's nothing left, no bumper, no lights, nothing. The front wood desapered, all you can see it the front wood inside structure.

    Re: Terrible car crash

The right rear wheel(the one that blown) was not found.

    Re: Terrible car crash

    Here's the hartop

    Re: Terrible car crash

The rol bar could support part of the impact has you can see by this picture, and the windstop was damaged, but still in place and not broken.

    Re: Terrible car crash

Wow...I'm glad your friend and his passenger are doing fine! Miracles do happen. From the pix, it would seem like there would be a fatality. Also proves Porsche built a really strong passenger structure.

Drive safe out there...and once again, happy everyone is OK.

    Survivability

Thank you J. for showing us these.

Actually, I'm quite impressed with the car. The basic car held up very well. You can see the way all of the crush zones have taken the load. The one vulnerability was the roof but this is expected on an open car. The roll bar is the high point and the nose the low. The windshield will always get squashed. It should be higher but that would interfere with the top.

Am I right that the Boxster does not have PSM? Query, what people think ... would PSM have been able to cope with the rim touching the ground? I somehow doubt it.

    Glad that everyone is ok.

    Re: Survivability

PSM is currently an option on the Boxster and Boxster S, not standard. It could have had PSM. Could PSM have coped with a bare rim on the ground? I think that is an interesting question. I have been reading about PSM and my armchair opinion is that it might be able to. I would like to hear from someone who has a better understanding of it than I do.

In this real world scenario of the tire blowing and separating from the rim, I think the action of the tire carcass could have been a causative factor. It could have, for example, wrapped around, or wedged itself against, a suspension link and forced the wheel and axel downward with enough force to start the roll. It would be interesting to know what became of the body of the tire when it separated.

    Re: Survivability

    Hi,

awful crash ... great nobody was harmed seriously !!!

But ... what if they went without the hardtop ... seems as if it absorbed much energy ... right above their heads ... good decision ... or heavenly coincidence .. to have it mounted in summer !!!

    greetings

    Re: Terrible car crash

    Holy shhhhh,
Incredible photos, and incredibly no injuries except very minor ones. Hmmm , well I think I'll still get the C4S Cab, you only live once!

    Drive safe....

    Re: Terrible car crash

Thanks for sharing the pictures with us. Usually, I'm not into "accident pictures" but as your friend got away alive, I think looking at these pictures reminds us all of what could happen with our fast cars.
I wonder why the tire blew? I have my own ideas why but I don't know your friend and I don't want to speculate.
Only a few thoughts: if he track raced this car with the same tires, I'm not surprised at all to see that happen.
I also wonder how fast his car was going, I bet he never thought his OEM tires aren't approved for 300 kph.

As I said, just a few thoughts...tires are the most important (and sensitive) part of a car.
Thanks god he's alive, forget about the car.

    Re: Terrible car crash

You should submit theses photos to www.wreckedexotics.com They have lots of pictures of wrecked exotic sports cars. All of the pictures they show don't involve any fatalaties....it's their policy (and a good one).

    Re: Terrible car crash

Well, I may have been wrong about the fatalaties part, sorry. I thought I read that there before, but looking at some of these photos
