    MY08 Turbo - new updates?

    Hi guys

Anyone want to hazard a guess at what the MY08 Turbo Coupe will be updated with come Aug/Sept?

  • Updated PTM?
  • Updated PASM?
  • Sports Exhaust Option?
  • X50 Powerkit option?
  • LED rear lights?
  • Facelift front spoiler to give less nose lift?
  • More wheel options?
  • A fix for the bad phone module microphone quality?
  • New PCM version?
  • A larger price tag?!!!

Also does anyone have an predictions whether the Turbo S will be a 3.8L engine, or a 3.6L engine with larger Turbo chargers (ie. probably more lag despite VTG), or just the current 3.6L engine with a powerkit like the Carrera S (ie. better airflow and ECU tweak)??

    Cheers

  • Re: MY08 Turbo - new updates?

Your guess is as good as anybodies. I think you'll see very few changes for '08, perhaps an x50/paddle shifter late in the yr. Expect the S about two years later.

Re: MY08 Turbo - new updates?

In pure P tradition, none of the above!

according to one of the sales people at brandywine porsche, the ceo of porsche said there were no changes slated for the 997 family. this comments was made during the q&a session at the 2008 cayenne launch event at cabo.

I hate to burst your bubble but have you actually seen the pictures and have you read the technical info we published regarding the 997 Turbo Cab? This is actually the reply to 90% of your questions or speculations.

Yup, read all the 'juicy' new TT Cab details first thing Monday morning last week

In fact, I have also been re-reading your excellent '997 Turbo - Rennteam Review' thread today. That is what prompted me to question whether Porsche would try to 'fix' some of the driving characteristics you found lacking in your review. Perhaps they already have with new models and just not told anyone

Under the skin, Porsche surely would have been playing with PASM, albeit to adjust to the different handling dynamics of chopping the roof off (just like they did with the Carrera Cabs). So I was wondering whether they may have been playing with the PTM and PASM of the Coupe too

With regards to the 'options' on my list, you are correct in that the TT Cab press release doesn't mention these. Although by not mentioning them it doesn't preclude them from suddenly appearing eg. different wheel options, PSE, powerkits etc.

All we do know is that visually the Cab is the same as the current Coupe apart from the roof has been chopped off and the price hiked up. So I suppose that does indeed rule out a new front spoiler or LED rear lights

Re: MY08 Turbo - new updates?

It will be interesting. I have a June build date for a coupe. Hope I get the car before September! K

    I give it up.

Btw: there seems to be a good chance that the LED backlights will be retrofittable on the 997 Turbo (NOT Carrera!) since there is a rumour that says that the wiring is already prepared for it. Of course a retrofit would be ONLY possible when the LED lights are actually available on new cars. This will happen with the introduction of the 997 Carrera facelift. The rumour about the LED retrofit on 997 Turbos hasn't been confirmed by any of our reliable sources yet but I'm still hoping.

Re: MY08 Turbo - new updates?

    Thanks Christian!

Re: MY08 Turbo - new updates?

    how are LEDs beneficial?

Re: MY08 Turbo - new updates?

They light up much faster, thus the car behind you sees the lights earlier... At high speeds, it can make a big difference.

Re: MY08 Turbo - new updates?

but the engine is an Euro5?

i' ve an order for november 07

Re: MY08 Turbo - new updates?

    2.3% more according to autoblog.com.

Re: MY08 Turbo - new updates?

The point is that they are standard on 20k cars but not on 120k 997TT.

Re: MY08 Turbo - new updates?

    sport exhaust option???

    on the turbo model????

Re: MY08 Turbo - new updates?

RC ... nah ... I'll either have a low miles 07 or high miles 08 when I get a new one. I can't wait for the car.

The tailights are going to disappear into distance from the competitions viewpoint anyway

Re: MY08 Turbo - new updates?

Which means they are useless upgrades as no one will see them anyway?

Re: MY08 Turbo - new updates?

    From my OPC this morning:

    Quote:
At the moment I have not had the details of what the model year will bring - The rumour is that PCM Navigation will include the "Extended" feature which was a cost option in the last car.... That is really all the changes.

Given prices go up 2.3% from Aug, I am thinking of getting in quick before that deadline. If I order today though I wouldn't get the car until Christmas.

My only reservation is whether to buy... 997 Turbo (new) vs Gallardo (used) vs F430 (used).

My heart says Italian but my brain says German.

Re: MY08 Turbo - new updates?

Colchester my man you have both porsche and ferrari there

Re: MY08 Turbo - new updates?

Alex (UK), just a thought - how come you never went for a GT3?

That's a very common moral conflict...

VS the Turbo: no PSM, no back seats, semi-slick tires which aquaplane in the wet, an ugly big back wing, and only the same torque as my current C2S. Plus I rarely go to the track.

I want something that pushes me into my seat when I accelerate and can be used 99% on the public roads. 4 wheel drive would be a plus too for winter times.

As I say, the Turbo is the common-sense choice which ticks the most boxes. I just wish it was more exciting. I am sure later though on I will add better sounding exhausts and power-kits which should help with these issues.

Re: MY08 Turbo - new updates?

Sure - it was just an idea - thought the GT3 might excite you a bit more than a TT.

BTW, the C2S generates 400Nm of torque whereas the GT3 generates 415Nm (same as C2s with X51)

Re: MY08 Turbo - new updates?

From the looks of the new TT cab, and spy shots of the 997 facelift, there not be any changes for the TT.

Re: MY08 Turbo - new updates?

Is it possible to fit the Carerra wing onto the GT3?

No, the airbox in the GT3 is too big

I believe the GT3 actually generates max torque of 405Nm at 5500rpm. The X51 generates this at 4500rpm and maxes at 415Nm at 5500rpm. The plain C2S has 400Nm at 4500rpm...

Sportscars are bought for fun and passion not logic and reasoning. So, F430 it is! Congrats and enjoy!!

Re: MY08 Turbo - new updates?

Thanks for correcting my figures Alex (UK) I must have got them mixed up!
