    Window tinting

I am considering putting window tinting on my new '06 997 C2S Coupe (Black/black). Any thoughts or inputs would be appreciated. I bought it from an out of town dealer and when I asked them about it they recommended a film made by formula one (website: formulaone.com). I checked with a local installer of this film and he quoted me 299.00 for their pinnacle series which is a charcol grey 35% film which is the darkest that is legal in TN (more expensive than other shops I checked--ranged from $140 to $300). He said he had just done a carrera so they have experience with this car.

    Re: Window tinting

No response yet? This must be a subject that doesn't have much interest. Have many of you tinted your windows. If so what consideration did you give to it--how did you pick the shop, product, etc. About how much did you pay? Any pros and cons of doing it?

    Re: Window tinting

I too have an 06 C2S coupe, and had it tinted with exactly what you are looking at. Formula 1 Pinnacle 35%. I've used Formula 1 films for at least 10 years exclusively, and had my E55 tinted with the 35% Pinnacle 18 months ago. It holds up well, doesn't scratch, and the cops tend to ignore it as it is not at all reflective. I paid $325 for the tinting on the Porsche.

    Re: Window tinting

Thank you for your input. I will set up an appointment for next week.

    Re: Window tinting

I considered tinting mine prior to delivery, and when the salesman told me he was gonna drive it to the local "tint a car" outlet and drive it back afterwards I quickly declined, even though I had negotiated this to be done for free, and I had thought this was to be done at production in Stuttgart.I didn't know that tinting cannot be ordered as an option. I've also got black/black spec and it doesn't look too bad without tinting. I will consider it at a later stage though.

    Re: Window tinting

Here in Arizona, because of the extreme heats and sun, most cars are tinted. I have not yet had a chance to tint the Porsche yet, but my other cars are. The best tint (for IR and UV protection come from Huper Optic ( http://www.huperoptikusa.com/ ). Their "select -Drei" is their best tint, but wil cost over $600.00. The test the installers do to show you the difference, is to bring a heat lamp and shine it across plain glass, and then many of the other tint/fimls they have. With Huper Optic, no heat get transmitted, very awesome.

    Re: Window tinting

In Hawaii most cars have window tint. I have used formula one tints for many years and have been completely satisfied. A lot depends on the installer. Go to one that promises to fix any mistakes or problems for free, that give a guarantee. Because sometimes tint doesn't adhere correctly or gets bubbles or comes lose on a corner, etc. That does happen. In this case, you go back to the installer and they fix it for free.

    Re: Window tinting

I have formula one ceramic tint (medium) Happy with the results and it doesn't affect my radio reception. I had metallic tint on my last car and AM radio reception was severly affected.

Tint is like clear bra....the installer makes the difference. Make sure you check your installer's work before allowing them to tint your car.

    Re: Window tinting

I think that if you get a dark tint with a black on black car, you'll look like a pimp. It looks cheezy.

    Re: Window tinting

black on black + black tint = pimpin' good times.

The tint I have selected is a charcoal grey and is only 35% which is the darkest that is legal in TN (you can still see through it into the car). It is definately not a dark tint. But, I don't want it to look "cheezy". Would you pick another color or not tint the windows at all? I want to prevent the sun from baking and fading the interior and cut down on UV rays and glare.

    Re: Window tinting

Black/black, with a 35% black tint should look great. Not to dark/"cheezy", and with your black interior/exterior, I think black/regular tint would look better than charcol....my .02c

I'll tell you what looks chessy...cracked dashes and faded leather seats/carpet. Tinting in the sunbelt is not a bad idea.

Now if I lived in Canada where it's cold or in Washington where it's raining all the time...maybe I don't tint my windows.

    Re: Window tinting

    I am 50/50 on tinting
I love the look, but then I dont want it done to my 997.
Hmm, your not suppose to have it in Cali, its illegal, but people still do it, kinda like the no front license plate thing!! A front license plate just looks cheesy on a 997. Gotta get them bumperplugs.

    Re: Window tinting

I am scheduled to have my window tint put on my car in the morning. Thank you for all of your inputs. I have not read anything in this thread to discourage me from having it done. It is being done by a shop in here in town that has been in business for over 30 years, they have installed on Porsches before and offer the type of film that my dealer recommended--formula one. I have had a previous car's windows tinted before but I am finding that I am giving things a lot more thought when it comes to the P-car than i did my Nissan. Thanks again!

    Re: Window tinting

Well, I finally got around to tinting my window. At the end I decided to go with Huper-Optik 'Select-Drei'. http://www.huperoptikusa.com/products_klasse.cfm
This is their top of line tint with max IR reduction. It has a slight bluish tinge to the tint. Here are some pictures at different angles.

    Re: Window tinting

Do you have a picture of the car with the top down, and tinted windows up?

    Re: Window tinting

I will have to take some (I will try tommorrow during daylight).

    Re: Window tinting

Sorry about the delay, but here are some with top up/down

    Re: Window tinting

here is mine 35% all around, with madico tint. initially i regret going so dark and wish i did 50% but now i really like it. the huper optik is nice but alittle too expensive, i think a regular tint costs 100-150 for a porsche.

    Re: Window tinting

After having tints on most of my previous cars, I decided to keep the P-car transparent. However, after owning it for a little over a year in MIAMI (HOTTTTT) I decided to go for it once again. Initially, I wanted something that was dark enough to keep my car cool and that would maintain the integrity of the leather. However, when I arrived to the window tinting location something came over me and I asked for 5%! 5%! A total HAZARD! I told myself that if I didn't like them, that I would just remove them for a set of 20%. I am close friends with one of the employees and it would be no problem. So without further rambling, here is my 997 with 5 percent window tints:

    Re: Window tinting

Needless to say I have become quite adjusted to them, and they look (atleast to me) superb. However, I presume they will create some caution when going on long road trips and I have to drive at night.

    Re: Window tinting

Raffi and Known05, I think both of your rides look great. I did 50% on my Turbo and I love it. By the way, are both of the sets of wheels Champion?

    Re: Window tinting

I don't know about Raffi, but mine are Champions. They are called RG5B-19" Here's a LINK if you're interested.

    Re: Window tinting

Just don't go too dark.. looks great if it is a subtle look.

    Re: Window tinting

my wheels are kinesis F110, champion made a similar wheel sold exclusively by brandywine but is now discontinued.
    krown, nice wheels and tint

Thanks, likewise. I Love the wheels and front apron/spoiler. Lookin good.

    Re: Window tinting

usually if a company does 3m film right they also do quality tinting, as it's easier.

Easy for a Canadian to say. Just try living without tint down here in the south.

I think it can look quite nice.
