    Short Shift ?

    Considering this option.....can someone give me a quick comparison between it and the regular shifter? Open to all opinions from 997/987 owners. Thx...

    To all.....got to answer my own question....

    Dealer had two 997s right next to each other....one with short shift the other standard. Compared both....

    I'm usually not the one to recommend costly options for an object that is already there.....but the short shifter for $765 will be money well spent on a Cayman......I highly recommend it. Shift travel was vastly reduced and is snick-snick perfect. I could see where it would cause more smiles while driving than Sport Chrono and other features. I also didn't notice any real increase in effort needed for shifting.....may be a little more in winter as the docs says, but it was down right fantastic, much more sporting.
    It is now high on my config list.

    Saw two Boxsters in the dealers showroom. One with SS, one without. I agree 100% with what you said. It sure felt great. I'd get it unless I really were trying to keep the car cost down.

    Short shift not available on Cayman S order guide yet, for sure. I have it my 997, I love it. Only way to go. The normal pattern feels so long to me now....

    Unless I missed something the official order guides for the Cayman are not out yet.

    Option XCZ or "Sport Shifter" shows to be available on the Cayman when looking at the generic all Porsche model order guide for some countries in EU.

    May dealer pretty much told me that anything available on the Boxster would probably be a go on the Cayman.....especially "normal" order guide items which the short shifter is one. We'll see, I'll be checking on it tonight.

    $765 is a lot for a short shift. For the 986/996 Porsche made an identical copy of the B&M short shift ($200 bucks). The B&M is a quality short shift. I'm sure it will be the same for the 987/997.

    True I'm sure there will be some cheaper alternatives to the $765 factory price, but this is one item I'll probably pay for from the get go just so I don't have to tear into anything later. I'll give Porsche some more free money on this one.....and save some other places.

    Just an FYI- The B&M shifter is IDENTICAL to the "Porsche Sport Shifter" We looked at them side by side. Just the color is different. Save your money and get a B&M shifter.... It just does not have the "Porsche Name"
    I had one in my 996 and loved it. Simple to install.

    Yup I have the B&M in mine too. Cost me $199 on eBay. But the 997/987 may be different?

    Just ordered my 987S last week; I kept the options to a minimum but I did specify the sport shifter as the normal 6 speed throws were too long - and the shifter is something that you are constanly using - so it will definitely add to the enjoyment of the drive. Other options were metallic colour (Seal Grey), heated seats, windstop and sport steering wheel which I would definitely recommend as the standard one feels too big!! (actually a pretty good price at $250 US)

    The sport steering wheel is cheap because it's not leather (like the one that comes standard). You need to pony-up for the leather replacement 490 USD / 690 CDN.

    Ps - Sport shifter is an option in the guide dated August 19th. $765 USD / $1,070 CDN
