    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

Regarding back seats in 911 my daughter hates them. She likes to be in a front passenger seat in our 991.

991.2 GT3 will fullfill most of my needs and I am looking forward to get one next year. Somehow I think that you will most probably get one as well.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

.2 GT3 should be brilliant. Of course RC will get one. .1GT3 is the best looking 911 imo, very sleek..indecision.

Between the Huracan and a 911, I consider the latter to be the "design icon"...

I much prefer the "squashed beetle look" of a 911 to the "trying too hard" look of most Lambos. Not that the two cars are comparable as they push different buttons and have different goals IMO.

You must also understand that aesthetics are subjective and some of us do love the 911's timeless and iconic shape.

I like the Huracan, but I find the "R" many orders of magnitude more desirable. Not all of us perceive "desirability" in the same way Smiley

+1 with RC not the same car and philosophy.... Buy a McLaren 570 S also for the price...It's the pure 911 wait press review... A Huracan a hate this design but purly subjectif...

I am seriously considering it (if I do not get the 911R). I don't have the lease offer yet, so right now I have a lot of time to think. When I had the final specs of the car, I was 99% sure I would get it. After reading some of the comments and thinking about it further, also talking to my wife and other friends, I am at a 65% covetousness level right now. Smiley It may drop further after the lease offer and the fact that I need to give away my GTS and my GT500 for the 911R to happen. Smiley

So yes, the 991.2 GT3 is a possibility, especially if Porsche decides to offer a wing delete.

    Just as a comparison point...

991 R max in second gear is 140km/h.

991.1 GT3 max in second gear is 124km/h.

Comparing raw performance figures doesn't make sense. We all know that PDK is much better for performance.

The 911R is a very special car but I still think that Porsche should have used PDK and offered back seats. They would still have sold the same amount of cars, I am pretty sure about it. Actually, why make this a limited edition and not offer the 911R as a regular model? PDK and backseats for regular people and manual, single mass flywheel, light weight stuff and no backseats for the hardcore crowd. Everyone would be happy.

I'm glad you said it!  The "R" as you configure it is the modern 911 I would really want to own and keep.  RC do you really think that the .2 GT3 would have  wing delete option??  I was toying w/ a 718S lease for the interim but perhaps I should just wait for the .2 GT3? The wing on my GT3 became a much bigger  impediment to non track driving and the wife acceptance factor (wing, no rear seats) declined rapidly so I sold my .1 GT3 but I miss everything else about the car.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

The wing delete option for the 991.2 GT3 is only a rumor I picked up after discussing the 911R with "someone" I know. He told me that the 911R diffusor won't be used only for the 911R, so it would be logical to assume that there will be more... Of course this could also mean that the diffusor will be used for the next GTS (with turbo engine) or whatever new product but a wing delete option would make more sense than actually offering two different products. I also don't see why hardcore GT Porsche lovers would be mad at Porsche if they offer a wing delete option? The back seats are a different story, I'm not so sure we will ever see them for the 991.2 GT3.

The performance advantage of pdk comes mostly due to the extra 7th ratio - I think Porsche fans shot themselves in the foot by begging AP for a 6spd.  A great shifting manual close-ratio 7spd is what people should have asked for...

Correct and I had stated roughly the same a few pages ago.  Porsche has carefully carved out space for the 911 R away from the GT3 and GT3 RS by its gear ratio selections.  However, most of these points are rather academic as few, if any of the 911 Rs, will actually see much track time.

Why would you expect otherwise? There is nothing visually new about the car aside from some stripes and some fabric. It's just a hodge podge of 991 components.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

Without the stripe it is just another 911 to 99% of the people out there...

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

That's exactly what I love about it . In black it's virtually invisible

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

Would you buy an invisible car? Every car looks OK in black because it hides the design. It is like buying an object that someone spend countless hours to create and stuff it in a closet never to be looked at.

Serious answer, nay. The mixed black / brown interior in the Geneva car does not look good. Like they ran out of black leather and tried to patch it up with random pieces of brown Smiley

If you can configure it full brown then yay Smiley

One is in the "Yea" category too.  Porsche, like many other automakers, uses some of its special edition models to introduce new technologies into the more mainstream product line.  Every magnesium roof and carbo fiber front wing increases Porsche's manufacturing knowledge for using the materials.  Evidently, these will trickle down into the more ordinary product line.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

Thanks for the feedback , I like idea of all black exterior and interior with just brown seats . Like  how some old swb cars had all black carpets etc and just bright red seats etc . Also I belle it's the natural leather so it will wear and crease etc ?

and now they have introduced harris tweed seat insert and retro brown leather patching technologies into the R. hopefully this will trickle down into carreras and targas. hard to do without from now on:::))))

Porsche had developed that technology in the past - see the early Porsche 928 as an example.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

It really is a brilliant marketing move by Porsche. They know they have gear heads that are lusting for a manual transmission with more power than the run of the mill 911. So they boast the hp to 500, provide a manual transmission and cover with decals (to distinguish it from ordinary 911's) designating the car as a special limited edition. Oh and it will cost over $200,000 AND not perform as well as the $130,000 GT3, $189,000 RS, and both turbo models.

    BRILLIANT!kiss
