    987 Next Week

Some journalists from the US are driving the 987 next week. This makes me think the Paris Show is a definite "go" for the 987 intro as we have been discussing.

RC, you said you may not see the 987 until October. What gives?

I expect us to see official pics by next week.

    Re: 987 Next Week

I'd be really happy to see the 987 next week!

Maybe RC is sworn to secrecy to protect his sources?

    Re: 987 Next Week

It had better be at Paris - I've just booked my flights and hotel. It's going to be the only chnace I get to see the car before I have to spec mine!

    Re: 987 Next Week

My dealer told me a few weeks ago that the press launch would be on the 6th/7th September, but I wasn't too sure on whether to believe him or not. This seems to confirm what he said.

A team of german car journalists were invited to join Porsche on their 997 test drives in South Africa months before the official launch.
You see...there is a nice document you have to sign when you're invited to do such things. This nice document is called non-disclosure agreement and if your signature on this document isn't more worth than the paper it is written on, you get a nice letter from Porsche's law department and even more serious consequences. Just as a little hint...

I know exactly when the Boxster is coming but I can't tell. Not because I would unveil my source this time but because I can't. See above.
I can tell you one thing: Porsche Germany has a nice event sometime in October as far as I remember. This is when certain people will be able to see the 987 live, of course most of the invited people probably don't know that yet.

The Paris Autoshow is end of this month and the most important 987 market is the US.

But if you have a different information, it could be true too. There was a factory vacation and people just got back to work. Maybe I get new infos next week.

    Re: 987 Next Week

I think we're going to have a nice surprise at Paris

    Re: 987 Next Week

I think the 987's auto show debut will occur in January 2005 at the same venue 12 years after this concept was shown , drawn by American Grant Larson, who later was chief designer of the Carrera GT and the new 997 . BTW, both he and chief designer Chris Bangle of BMW are Wisconsin natives .

    Re: 987 Next Week

    @RC

I can only hope that the 987 will be shown at Paris...i have by my ticket and make a hotel reservation....

Actually, MKW, while Grant Larson is a native of Wisconsin, Bangle was born in Ohio. You're correct that they both grew up in Wisconsin. Also, Larson, chief designer of the 997, served as a "design leader" for the Carrera GT, the Boxster concept (along with Stefan Stark) and the production Boxster with Dutchman Harm Lagaay acting as chief designer.

Stefan Stark is an interior guy- he did the Boxster concept's which lead to the 986/996's sculpted interior , now superceded on the 997 by the rectilinear " retro " look . Americans Larson, Freeman Thomas ( VW Beetle, Audi TT, Chrysler 300 Sedan , Dodge Magnum Wagon ) and J Mays ( Audi Avus Quattro ) were all at Audi in the early 90s.

I'd be very suprised that they would offer PCCB on the Boxster line. Quite an expensive option for their most inexpensive models.

Plus with all of the controversy surrounding the pad and rotor issues (re: track use & warranty). But I'm sure it's a good profit margin item for Porsche. If they do offer it, very few customers would consider it, and dealers would be silly to order pool cars with it already installed.

I like all of the above mentioned cars to some degree. Thanks for the info.

    Re: 987 Next Week

    Hello,

have somebody new information about 987....

    Re: 987 Next Week

Press packs are with the dealers, although us mere mortals can't see them yet. Just spoken to mine who said the recent photos I've shared with him (as seen on this site) are accurate - 280bhp for the 'S' too

    Thanks for the update!

    Re: 987 Next Week

It seems that the new Boxster will be presented in the next few days. At least that's what they say on the Porsche site.

    So be prepared... ;-)
