    Ferrari F149 Coupe-Cabriolet

This mule could be the first appearance of the new front-engined V8 GT ?(formerly known as 'Dino')

My thoughts exactly. Maybe an old mule of the recently presented Gran Turismo.

    Re: Ferrari F149 Coupe-Cabriolet

The car in front of it is the Gran Turismo.

    Re: Ferrari F149 Coupe-Cabriolet

    Translation of the article :

"There are some rumours around the Ferrari F149 project saying that the car will be already shown at half 2008 and it will not be proposed as many believed under the brand Dino.

It will be a Ferrari in every single part and in its philosophy, with 4 true seats, front engine and a beuatiful Coupè-Cabrio version!

The picture of the test cars out of Maranello's factory hides the C+C solution, infact it seems that this solution was originally made to be adopted on the open version of Maserati Granturismo: that is why rear section of the car really seems like the one from Maserati.

We don't have any news on which V8 engine will be used for F149 but we know the price that will be around 135.000 euros: we bet many Porsche 911 customers will think about buying this next Ferrari jewel."

I agree, this looks very much like a GranTourismo hardtop cabriolet prototype.

Yes, in fact it is. That Maserati CC is cancelled and now Ferrari uses that platform for their own CC.
Maserati did not use the old platform for the Gran Turismo as they decided to use the Quattroporte's platform instead..

    Re: Ferrari F149 Coupe-Cabriolet

    it's a maserati

    Re: Ferrari F149 Coupe-Cabriolet

    agree its a maser

    Re: Ferrari F149 Coupe-Cabriolet

Just look at the proportions, it must be the Maserati...

    Re: Ferrari F149 Coupe-Cabriolet

    Yes.

And it's not just the proportions, it's 1:1 the GranTurismo. And I can't identify anything like a CC roof mechanism.

Funny though, that no "Dino" mules have yet been spotted.

Maybe because it won't be produced?

    Re: Ferrari F149 Coupe-Cabriolet

I hope and pray they do not do this. This is a page out of the Porsche book. The only difference is they are trying to do this on a much higher level and I doubt many Ferrari owners will buy into it.

They don't want current F-owners to buy it, they want new customers from other brands.

I understand that but my concern, is at least in the US, the car will be positioned by the dealers as the first purchase before you can step up to the "true" Ferrari. As a result, the limited production of the "true" Ferrari will be increased to accomodate those that have paid to get into the club. In the US, many buyers are not going to pay $200,000 for a low end Ferrari without assurrance they will get the true Ferrari. I certainly wouldn't.

I would also add it will have a huge impact on resale of the 430 given that the cheaper version probably will buy you a spot in line for the 430 replacement.

Some F430 buyers will go for the "Dino" either -- I know at least one F430 Spider owner who won't pay 200,000 for the successor but rather would buy a "Dino" with folding hard top. Although he loves the engine under glas, he doesn't care about the middle engine concept at all. He just likes cruising around in a red car, enjoying the attention (nothing wrong with this!). Probably the "Dino" will hit the resale value of used Ferraris bc buyers will go for a new "Dino" instead of a used 360/F430.

With the increasing demand from the Orient and eastern Europe and the success of the F430 and now the 599GTB, Ferrari is becoming a little bit megalomaniac IMHO.

Example: Try to spec a F430 or 599 in the US without ceramics and F1... impossible! It's mandatory now! (at least that is my information).

I'm really curious how they will manage to double (or triple) their production... and their after sales!

That's only because Nick says they are not important. Ferrari wants to force him to buy the CCM. Next thing they will do is to prohibit bling-bling-polished wheels and make standard wheels mandatory for US-customers.

Without bling bling ot polish wheels I am otta here.

Zzboba you make some good points but I must point out the US market is different from ROW. For an example, the front engine Ferrari is not that popular though at least for now the 599 is the exception. Resale values on the front engine Ferrari's suffer as much as Porsche's. There are just too many good front engine cars to pick from and the Ferrari name can only go so far.

I could have bought the 599 and passed on it. I know of others who have done the same. A front engine car for some reason does not engender enthusiasm especially as a sport car as it has in the past.

    Re: Ferrari F149 Coupe-Cabriolet

The F149 kind of car is likely targeted at the wife, mistress or divorced dad w/the kids market.

Ferrari has other cars for the purists.

    Re: Ferrari F149 Coupe-Cabriolet

i am all for more ferrari models if they are interesting cars
i buy a car because i like it not because of exclusivity

however i wish they make a smaller lighter midengine car with less power and luxury items

    Re: Ferrari F149 Coupe-Cabriolet

i agree this is a maserait gran turismo.

there is a mule for the "new" car that has been seen . it has a front like a 430 (even though it is front engined - i assume this is for disguise purposes) and the rear glass is disguised and painted black. it is not the old maserati cab/coupe mule.

    Re: Ferrari F149 Coupe-Cabriolet

I don't know how I feel about it if the car pictured is actually a new Ferrari model. But I do think that Ferrari needs to do something to meet the increasing demand from Russia, Asia, etc.

What do you guys think, will Ferrari increase production on their current cars before introducing another model? Because something's gotta give, right?

Currently they are making the waiting lines longer EVERYWHERE to accomodate China.

    Re: Ferrari F149 Coupe-Cabriolet

    Bring it on.

Hopefully the US market will come back to their sense.
I can already see the new Ferrari depreciations post: how to loose $150k in two years.

    Re: Ferrari F149 Coupe-Cabriolet

Perhaps that mule is the rebirth of GM's 1999 Oldsmobile Alero , as engineered by Ferrari , lol! Will look good with the Buick Park Avenue portholes on the front fenders , too.

Despite much exaggeration/speculation, not sure how many units of cars w/poor ground clearance, etc can be sold in regions like China, India, Russia, etc w/poor road infrastruc, availability of reliable, high-octane fuel, etc....and crime issues making high-profile vehicles or driving self a limited possibility....

And in a rapidly globalizing world, would suspect many of those newly wealthy in emerging mkts will be buying wkend houses in Lond/MC/NYC/LA, etc where they will house their sportscars in regions w/more sportscar-friendly infrastruc...and other essential amenities of high-end living/entertainment....

After all, even in alleged First World places like US, one would be surprised by how many of the owners of mansions on LA's Westside are guys who own a widget factory of some sort in Podunk, US...places like Cleveland, Milwaukee, etc....where F dealers are scarce; locals (esp employees/local union leaders) may not appreciate seeing visible conspicuous consumption; and primary home region and speed enfcmt offers few interesting roads/days of decent weather compatible w/high-end sportscars.....so many car-oriented affluent guys from Podunk just board their private plane/NetJets and head to their BevHills house, where the weather is almost always near-ideal; their cars have plenty of places to play; and the local scenery is far more attractive in many ways than where they make their money....

I think it has more in common with the upcoming Ford Mondeo...

But if you lived in the US, the new Maser would remind you of the late Alero's huge trapezoid lights . They were commonly bought by rental car agencies, too .

    Re: Ferrari F149 Coupe-Cabriolet

If you see the car live , it won't remind you of mondeo, aero etc... it's amazing ,its fabulous at lesat for me.
