New info that sounds Fantastic for upcoming BMW M5....

A member of the Unofficial BMW M5 Forums recently posted this quote from a BMW representative at the Frankfurt Auto Show.

" We will show the M5 in Geneva in March. The production department is very keen on getting the M5 in production next year. It will have a 7 speed SMG, power will be between 520-550 horsepower. The engine is just stunning. It will be a very very dynamic car to drive, like nothing you have seen before. Maybe not as fast in a straight line as the new AMG ( read CL65 ) but as soon as the road turns - look in the rear view mirror, and there you will se the AMG's! "

    The poster continued to say.....

Although the BMW staff was strictly told NOT to reveal any information about the next M5 I managed to get this information as well. But they said it will have 7-speed manual as well, and introduction will be in Geneva.

Also if it interests you, people from quattro GmbH (Audi) said they will not continue with the biturbo philosophy. The forthcoming S- and RS-models will have no turbos or compressors. So I guess the competition will be the V10 Gallardo engine in the next RS6...

I don't know about you, but this all sounds fantastic. Good for BMW!

Re: New info that sounds Fantastic for upcoming BMW M5....

    I agree Erik!
Thanks for the news, this should really be amazing!
I think it will superior to the AMG models, but it'll be interesting to see how it compares to Carreras and other proper sport cars.
Even though you can't really compare sport cars to sport sedan IMO.
The M6 should be just absolutely amazing!!! That is if you can swallow the styling!
    Fanch.
    PS: 7 Speed SMG3!!! Fantastic!!!!!!

Re: New info that sounds Fantastic for upcoming BMW M5....

Just wait till Porsche announces their monster by end of this year

    I hope.

i can... the 6 really looks good in reality, the bangle-boot works! (what a shift of opinion ) can't wait for the M6... should be an awesome car. i'm even thinking of ordering the 645Ci in the meantime... i want my head up display!!!

Re: New info that sounds Fantastic for upcoming BMW M5....

    Thanks Erik!
Fantastic news, also because the new 5 series weighs a little less than the previous model: quite interesting a 1780 kg 520-550 hp 7sp sequential sedan with BMW Motorsport dynamics!!

Add to that the new Exige for track work and you might have achieved perfection...

Any hint at when it's coming to showrooms?

Re: New info that sounds Fantastic for upcoming BMW M5....

    zzboba,

The front of the car looks nice, I admit, but I thought the rear still looks bangelish.

Is the rear look really different and in proportion in person rather than the pictures we have seen?

    ron,

in reality, the car in total looks slick and a lot better than on pictures (as most cars do). regarding the rear, i now have a clue what bangle was up to... it's basically the same as the 7's, but much more self-confient and it works IMO. i still think that the 7 is ugly.

and -- please do not flame me - the 645Ci rear somehow reminds me of the rear of the 993 turbo -- kind of a massive rear wing.

    cheers

the 6 series is the nicest looking pontiac yet

Re: New info that sounds Fantastic for upcoming BMW M5....

If anyone is near San francisco, there is a new 5 Series BMW sitting on display next to a new745 and a new Z4 behind the St Francis yacht club in the Marina. It is there because BMW is a part sponsor of the World Cup race that is going on this week. Car looks fine, better than the 7, but I wouldn't call it pretty. You can walk tight up to it.

Re: New info that sounds Fantastic for upcoming BMW M5....

Regarding the looks of the 6 series BMW I absolutely agree with zzboa. In fact, for me the 6 series represented one of the biggest surprises of the IAA fair. The car looks pretty convincing in reality while pictures somehow fail to capture its charm. Nice car!

    Hehehe

Re: New info that sounds Fantastic for upcoming BMW M5....

My dealer told me 535 hp and should be available at the showroom April / May. They told me they are releasing the M5 together with the M6 at the same time... I thought the debut of the M6 would be a couple of months later..
I have been criticizing the 5 and 6 series; but I think with the M Power department interfering - it should be an amazing car.
I am seriously thinking to put my name down for the M6.
I don't know why but since I started thinking of buying the M6, I now see the 6 series as a nice design.

You're lucky we don't like flames on this forum...
C'mon, you can't be serious. The 6 series' butt is plain U.G.L.Y. . Today I saw a car on a parking lot, of course I had no camera with me.
It really looks nice (reminds me a little bit of the Z4) but the rear is too different, it doesn't appear to be a thorough design. Can't explain it better.

Regarding power: 520-535 HP sound nice but if I look at BMW's power claims in the past, the cars couldn't stand to their power claims. I talked to a BMW dealer who is a family friend and he had a preliminary "official" 0-200 kph figure of 15.1 seconds for the M5. This is still a little bit slower than the E55 for example. We should wait and see until the M5 comes out on the market. However: I'm sure that the suspension system will be much sportier than on the E55 for example.
Let's see what surprise AMG has in mind for MY 2006: rumor indicates a 4-valve direct fuel injection supercharged V8 with 560 HP for the SL55 and slightly less (540 HP) for the E55.
And the best part: AMG cars can be de-limited to 300 kph, BMW stops at 250 kph and the worst part: BMW stopped high speed development because it saves a lot of cost. Means: a tuned M5 never will be as safe as a E55 for example at 300 kph because BMW didn't fully test it up to that speed.
So as long as BMW sticks to their 250 kph limit, this is no car for me.

1 month ago i would have probably flamed myself for saying that i like anything that bangle has done

but i changed my mind for the 6 after seeing it in reality -- maybe i am wrong, but IMO he had the porsche back in mind when designing his trunk... and it IMO it works this time.

i really like the 6! can't wait for the M6 and the alpina model!
