    997 vs GTR vs R8 vs Evo X vs STi vs Elise

    According to this test, the R8 would have beaten by 997S

    No, it want be. 997S is slower on ALL European race tracks(Hockenheim, Nurburgrung GP kurs, Nordschleife, Oschersleben, Monza and on Bedford-UK EVO track) then R8 when measured by ALL major European magazines. Truth, in straight line it is pretty much an even match.
    Just what is amazing how close R8 is on Mountain Road time to GT-R.

    Is this true of 997S X51 too? Any tests?

    Sport Auto tested 997S X51(-20mm/LSD, PCCB) two years ago. It achieved the same time on Hockenheim as 997TT(1.13,7min). All times with Michelin PS2 N1 tires.

    Just for comparison R8 achieved 1.12,7min with Pirelli Corsas and 1.12,9min with Pirelli P Zero R1(R8 specs).

    Also, on Nurburgrung GP Kurs R8 is around 1.8s faster then 997S X51(-20mm/LSD).

    BUT, on the road it will depend more on the driver...

    Have a look and learn. I don't really understand why you have to convince everybody that R8 is faster. What's wrong with R8 being a slower car anyway? IT IS SLOWER. Because 7:59 (997S) is different than 8:04 (R8) @ nordschleife. You're always trying to prove that R8 is faster. Is it so important for you? The R8 was beaten by ALL its competitors. That's why people at Audi are producing a 5.5lt one.

    997S 7.59min Factory Porsche time(driver W.Rohrl)
    R8 7.55min Factory Audi time(driver F.Stippler)

    BTW, I do not have to learn ANYTHING from you. You are just too big DIE HARD 997 fan...

    chill out. you are in fact wrong. the R8 has handed the 997S its ass in all mag comparos. further, though one driver may have netted a shorter time on one track doesn't make it a faster car. i for one would doubt the veracity and accuracy of the testing in question, particularly if it involves same day testing between the two cars.

    the only 997 that can outright out perform the R8 is the GT3 RS. by most, the GT3 is considered merely its equal on the track only and not anywhere near it in comfort and luxury.

    the 997 TT is outhandled by the R8. that the R8 can perform thus with 425 hp is a testament to how easily the V10 version will likely kill the GT3 RS... and likely be quicker and faster than the GTR.

    porsche had done admirably compensating for the defect of a car whose engine hangs over the rear axle. kudos for porsche. but the R8 is in a different league design-wise. a BIG reason why porsche is fighting lower saxony for control of vw.

    The original 997S was in fact faster in a straight line (embarassing for the audi v8). The facelift will hand the R8 its ass, again, for less money. Not to mention it is a car that you can actually purchase.

    I believe that the R8 is correctly priced for it's performance, however, Audi was stupid for only making 21 cars for 2008. WTF Audi, you do all that work then make 7 copies. Then come out with a better version less than 6 months later? How is your company making any money?

    I think 'handed it's ass too' is a little harsh. For a car with 60 more HP it doesn't seem that it took too much out of a 997S on the track, and straight line speed is pretty close. It's actually a little embarrassing that over 23km, a 60HP advantage and a 'proper' mid-engine configuration only buys you 5-6 seconds. That's great news to the 25 people that have one I guess.

    Its taken Porsche 40+ years to come up with the 997, Audi managed to show it up on its first go, Porsche need to re think the "if it aint broke" design and move on.

    The current R8 is the base model.

    Thanks God for Lamborghini I guess. The chassis and tranny are straight from a Gallardo. Audi's most impressive achievement before the Lambo acquisition was Quattro. I really do like the R8 though, maybe they should make a few more of them?
