Cayman review on TV tonight (UK)

Don't forget the Cayman is on Fifth Gear tonight, tested by Tiff Nidell

Re: Cayman review on TV tonight (UK)

I can't wait to see Tiff rip around the track in the Cayman. Unlike Clarkson, Tiff loves the Boxster (his favorite sports car), so I would expect an interesting perspective. I am in the U.S., so I hope some UK folks will fill us in.

Re: Cayman review on TV tonight (UK)

I don't think he's testing it on the track, it's on some 'dangerious roads' apparently

Re: Cayman review on TV tonight (UK)

    Tiff loved it!!!!

Re: Cayman review on TV tonight (UK)

It was a good review. The dangers on the route were, as always, "the other guys".

Thanks for the summary, but that's not a surprise since he loves the Boxster. Can you please elaborate for those of us outside of the UK as to what Tiff thought were the strenghts/weaknesses and of course the value proposition? Much obliged!

So the great Tiff Needell has spoken :"The Boxster S is just as good to drive and it's five grand cheaper" I didn't write his script, honest.

What was that about an unbiased opinion from a Boxster owners?

.....but I would gladly pay $5K more for a fixed roof and the engine alone. Lets just say that's how much I don't want a Boxster and why I haven't bought one in the 9 years its been offered. This is my dream car from Porsche and I have been waiting a long time for it!

Methinks DC is (quite successfully) winding you all up.

Didn't know Tiff was a Boxster owner

Re: Cayman review on TV tonight (UK)

    Here's some quotes:

The steering feel just guides you in to the apex without having to think about it

light, delicate, full of feel and sensation that make driving a just 45mph such a joy

If I press this button, it lowers the suspension by 10mm, but I can't tell any difference.

Sport Button, supposed to sharpen up the throttle application, well, it might be doing something but all of these things are so minimal that you only really notice them whil you're looking at a stop watch at a race track

I'v got stiffened suspension, sharper throttle, wing up. I'm sure if I turned all of them off, I'd be going just as quick

In most cars you'd be wallowing into corners with understeer, snapping sideways and getting their drivers into trouble but here it's such a well balanced, poised driving machine that nothing un-toward seems to be happening

    What a drive!

It is a brilliant little car, at first I thought it was just going to be a marketing ploy to fill a gap between the boxster and 911, it is half boxster, half 911, I love it. I drives like a boxster, it's got those cute looks which I really like and the handling is brilliant, it was greasy and as soon as it was beginning to slip you elt it through the steering wheel, wonderful feedback

Jason: I get the looks, it is pretty but you mention the boxster s. I don't remember anyone jumping out of one of those and thinking 'hmm, if only I had 15 more HP, it was a bit stiffer and....'

It's not a better drive than a boxster s, which is 5 grand cheaper but I reckon those looks are going to get alot of peoples attention. I like the little cutie looks.

VBH: Next year BMW are launching their M4 Coupe which has more HP

I love that M4 coupe, but, it's not a Porsche

So an unbiased renowned top driver and Porschephile agrees with my review, then.

Re: Cayman review on TV tonight (UK)

Remember DC, he said "it's not a better drive than the boxster". Meaning, it's no worse ofcourse!

I'm glad he liked the car, after Clarkson slated it somewhat(and then gave it an award in top gear mag??!??). But the filming sucked! The incar shots looked like they were taken from an Xbox game, and the black/white/red effect was just annoying.

What I said in my review "It didn't feel different enough to my own car, and certainly no better". It certainly isn't worse than my 987 S and the engine response is definitely better at high revs.
