GT3RS Euro del. questions. March road conditions in Europe

I will be taking Euro delivery of my RS in March and I want to hit some nice roads. I go to Germany/Austria/Italy often, driving the roads from Munich to Garmish, into Austria, down to Italy through the Brenner Pass. Evo did an article a few years ago with a GT3 and a Challenge Stradale and I think it was at the Stelvio or Stelvo Pass.....can someone tell me where that is and offer any other road advice?

I'm also thinking of drving up to the ring for a lap, will the Ring be open in March.

Also, I'm concerned with driving the RS with the Cup Tires, even Porsche has a disclaimer about increased chane of aquaplaning with these tires. Will there be much snow at March, and how do current GT3RS drivers deal with driving their car in the rain with these new special tires?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Early or late March? If last year was any guidance you will have to forget about going south. If I was you would ask them to hold your car for a month. Ring is open late March if weather is ok. It was not last year...

Re: GT3RS Euro del. questions. March road conditions in Europe

Drove down througfh Germany and to Lech in Austria in middle of March this year (skiing trip so not in 997!) and weather conditions were perfect with lots of sun, very cold and dry roads - BUT who knows for next year...
Munich and further south can be very harsh in March.
Think that the tyres on the GT3 RS are not the best in standing water but aren't they also temperature sensitive and don't work very well below around 5C ?

I wouldn't even dream of driving to tose places in March !!!

I was at the Ring this March, and doing Donuts in the snow in the Car park by the barriers !!!

Could you ask them to produce it a little later? I wouldn't attempt any of those before 15 May.

    Some useful links:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mountain_passes_in_Switzerland

    http://www.raonline.ch/pages/rap_moto2.html

By the time I got over there in June 2006 all the passes were open and clear,--but 3-4 weeks earlier many were closed. How about arranging it to coincide with the Spring 2007 "Grand Tour?" Check with your dealer for dates,--or Gabriele.

Some of the passesthat go south from Lechtal into Innsbruck were closed even in May when I was there last.

The mountains are going to be really touchy.

    WHat is the Grand Tour?

Re: GT3RS Euro del. questions. March road conditions in Europe

The Grand Tour is held twice a year by the factory for Euro Deliveries. They host a welcoming cocktail party, dinner, overnight stay, a run out to Weissach for a few hot laps (them driving) for Euro Delivery customers. Talk to your US salesrep for details. Usually held in mid May and in Sept each year. The slots go rather quickly so you need to commit early. The cost is the same as a regular European Delivery,--except they do a little more for you on those two 'tours.'

Re: GT3RS Euro del. questions. March road conditions in Europe

I think with those tires you will possibly have problems. I did the Grand Tour-delivery in May and there was still alot of snow over the passes we crossed. If you get caught in a late snow you are required to carry snow chains-a problem and those tires are terrible on any type of snow or ice. That time of year has alot of water (mud) running accross the roads on the passes as well. FYI
