2008 Viper info from Automotive News

It's red, it's hot, and it's more powerful than ever.

The 2008 Dodge Viper SRT-10 will debut next month at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. But here's an early look.

The Viper's 8.4-liter V-10 engine generates a whopping 600 hp and 560 pounds-feet of torque. That's 90 more horses than the previous model, meaning the car will rocket from 0 to 60 mph in less than four seconds, Dodge says.

To handle the heat generated by that powerplant, Dodge has given the Viper a new hood with six big air intakes. In addition, a twin-disc clutch replaces the current single-disc unit. That means all that power gets transmitted to the road more efficiently.

The 2008 Viper will arrive in showrooms in the summer. The car will continue to be built at DaimlerChrysler's Conner Avenue assembly plant in Detroit.

I would view it as an update on the 997TT's, um, inferior, competition....

Re: 2008 Viper info from Automotive News

I thought DC was going to stuff an AMG Twin Turbo V12 in that car (from the SL65) - should move that car along better...

    2006 SRT-10: 510HP/525lb-ft
    2008 SRT-10: 600HP/560lb-ft
    SL65 AMG V12: 604HP/738lb-ft

Yes, perhaps Dr. Z. needs the hint.

Re: 2008 Viper info from Automotive News

Every new poster should have an automatically-appearing poll at the bottom of his post, with the question: "Should I be banned?" and the possible answers being: "YES", "OF COURSE" and "DEFINITELY!" .
Seriously though, I wonder what numbers the Viper will put out with that sort of power and how it will compare to the Blue Devil (SS?).

Re: 2008 Viper info from Automotive News

I think we should relax a bit and take it easy on the new guy. He might not know exactly which forum to post what in and was simply giving us news on the new Dodge monster. While I would never buy a Viper over the TT it is a little frustrating that it will probably post better acceleration and possibly even lap times than the Turbo do to its similar weight, power advantage, as well as the rumored collaboration with Mclaren which would give it the much needed chasis developement it deserves. I am a Porsche fan thru and thru and admit to being a little biased towards the brand but that doesn't mean I am blind. The new Viper will be great for what it is, a genuine Z06 rival with supercar performance and a cheap as sh!t interior, nothing more.

Re: 2008 Viper info from Automotive News

I admire car ethusiasts and can respect what they like to drive. However IMHO Viper is still a Dodge, even Al Bundy drives one. .LOL But seriously gents, fast is not a factor anymore, anything and everything is fast. For most auto maunfacturers using the most recent technology, getting the 0-60&1/4 miles time from 6&14 second range to 5&13 second range is easy. The difficult part is for the super high performance cars that were already in 4-5/12&13 range to get down to 3-4/10&11 second range. Well how much uicker can we get from 0-60?? Perhaps a 3 second 0-60 times with 1/4 mile of a 10 sec for a stock car is not too far away and may not be a long shot, but how much better can it get after that and at what cost??? So bottom line it comes to how well the car does what it does and whether there is chemistry between the driver and the car. That's of course my humble opinion .

I couldn't agree more with ya...we think the same

Re: 2008 Viper info from Automotive News

easy ... 997TT with upgraded ECU + exhaust sys + rear-view digital CAMERA (with good digital zoom please) ...

Re: 2008 Viper info from Automotive News

Yes that is true but I am talking about the cars in stock form. I would still prefer the turbo.

Re: 2008 Viper info from Automotive News

The problem is Dodge Failed Miserably to correct the real problems with the Viper for 08. Super Hot Door sills,Confined Cabin, no traction control or stabilty management,no cruise or nav. ETC. In 2010 its supposed to have 680HP.

agree for sure ... i thought we are comparing in the power only ... cuz nothing to compare with .
its easy to make power , but its hard to handle it .

when we say power compare it with GT2 .
    === THE END ===

With the current V10. I think it could have the 680 in 08 if they wanted but their waiting for the Blue Devil Corvette to makes it Debut to see how it all Stacks Up before they increase the power.
