Got Stopped By Cop. No Slop.I Opted to Coop(erate)

No big deal. Go onto next post if you're in a hurry.

Anyway, I'm at a light and finally thought I could shake this brain-dead SUV by accelerating fast and getting ahead of him/her.

I literally never speed in residential areas (maybe go 40 in a 35 when it's obviously clear of pptential hazards).

Anyway, freeking cop gumballs me and everybody got to see the Porsche get nailed.

My crime: going from 0-35 in..., what..., oh..., 1 second?

He gives me a lecture basically telling __ME__ "don't speed in people's neighborhoods." I'm laughing to myself and also thinking "Awwwwww @#$&%!, here comes my first ticket of the New Millenium" since the State Trooper is stone cold serious!

I agreed, I was "stupid" and I promised myself in front of him to pay more attention to "traffic flow (?)"

He lets me go; which was fair. Accused me of speeding which was probably NOT true.

Anyway made me wonder and now have this question:

Are cops explicitly TRAINED to be totally stone-cold serious when making a "silly" moving violation stop?

I can see how acting that way can create an lasting behavior-changing impression on the average, law-abiding people they stop.

He had ZERO human emotion. WOW! I never deal with guys (people, kids, whomever) who interact like that.

    Impressive.

Re: Got Stopped By Cop. No Slop. He Opted to Coop.

I doubt they are "trained to act serious" but there is a culture in the Force of that. Everybody's got an idea of how a cop, doctor, construction worker, etc "ought" to behave.

For him, its just business. You've also got to keep in mind that whenever they interact with a citizen in a country where guns are as common as they are in the US, they always keep a level of concern regarding their safety. They never know just who they're going to stop or what they're going to find . . . Maybe the guy in the 911 Turbo is a drug dealer with a crack pipe in the passenger seat and an automatic weapon in his hand . . .

Re: Got Stopped By Cop. No Slop. He Opted to Coop.

Just as in any profession, you've got a range of personalities and intelligence from hero to zero... He may've not been the brightest bulb on the force when it comes to judgement and exercising discretion (i.e., he sees and expensive fast car accelerate quickly, and immediately jumps to a false conclusion because his "processor" isn't the quickest..). At least he didn't scratch you a ticket...

However... Troopers are the WORST in my experience... Just think about their job for a moment, compared to City Police or County Sheriff....

It's a thankless job with limited duties and only rare opportunity to help people and feel good about yourself... And when you're not being universally HATED by the people you're writing-up, you're called in on crashes where you get to see women and children maimed and/or killed, where your hands are fairly tied until the firetrucks and paramedics arrive... Lovely....

I wouldn't have that job for anything. And THAT is my theory as to why Troopers are almost always in a foul mood, and suppress their emotions and personalities...

Re: Got Stopped By Cop. No Slop. He Opted to Coop.

Some people take themeslves too seriously, they don't realize that its rediculous. That applies to cops I've ahem... encountered, and a myriad of other industries.

Wow. Nice work! That about sums it up perfectly. Hummmm..., I think you have a point about State Police being the worst, filing thru my limited but vivid memories of law enforcement officer contacts..., yup..., I think you are onto something.

BTW, Today, a day later, I just think he's was an ahole. Yesterday, after getting lectured without human emotion, I thought I was the jerk for the jackrabbit start. So much for the strategy of impressing unbehaved motorists by being an [blank].

Re: Got Stopped By Cop. No Slop. He Opted to Coop.

I love getting warnings for 0-35 in one second. There is nothing they can do really. You are not speeding and that dang rear end just grabs and goes without wheelspin. The lack of wheelspin is what gets you off everytime. Some Z06 would have been smoking the rears and gotten a ticket (or worse - a drag racing charge).
So far warnings 3 - tickets 0 with my 997. If I see them in traffic around me I always hit it hard off the line, just short of wheelspin (which is very quick) right up to the speed limit. Good fun - take it where you can find it.
