new exclusive dept. examples on porsche website

    dear all,

i noticed today that porsche updated their german website with some, erm, extraordinary (and some are O.T.T.) examples what the exclusive department is capable of...

it's all german text, but you can switch between the examples by moving the mouse over "Individualisierungsbeispiele" on the right hand navigation and selecting a model from the pop up menu.

    http://www3.porsche.de/german/deu/accessories/exclusive/samples/sportlich1.htm

well, there's no accounting for taste

What kind of seats are in the 4S pic ... Sportliches Unikat 5?
    GT2? GT3?

Re: new exclusive dept. examples on porsche website

Someone took pics of this at a factory visit! I remember I thought it was a GT3....I love the color.

Re: new exclusive dept. examples on porsche website

Jezzzz, those exclusive department guys should be all fired. Next thing we'll have will be some bright neon lights under the car and a special white color to paint the Michelin on the the tires... and why not those new white tail lights that we see on several Japanese cars, it would match the white painted central console.

Porsche is not a cheap tuning company, it has a historical name has a car manufacter, and the lack of class of those all products it's a shame for Porsche name.

I have to explain a little bit:
Porsche Exclusive Department has some pretty interesting cars sitting around at their HQ at Werk 1 in Zuffenhausen. Some of them have flashy exterior colors but also flashy interiors. I remember the "disco blue" interior (there was even blue painted wood installed) , this car looked like a pimp's dream.
They do flashy and crazy combinations to show what they are capable of and what is possible. This doesn't mean they really want customers to order their cars this way.

But I have to confess that I'm not a friend of colors, wood interiors and spoilers (most so called Aerokits are actually a waste of money) on Porsche cars.
I'm more interested in power upgrades, sport exhaust systems, sport suspension systems/coilover kits, wheel enhancements, brake enhancements, etc.
Maybe Porsche should create two departments:
    1. Exlusive Department for design stuff
    2. Porsche Motorsport for technical stuff

Re: new exclusive dept. examples on porsche website

How about Sonderwünche - 'Special Wish
Department' ? Does it still exist? IRC they could provide special mechanical features..

    Such a department never existed.

Almost everything is possible regarding colors (even here there are some limits due to safety) but regarding technical stuff, only what is officially advertised is possible.
Porsche is able (and willing) to do some special development for customers but (and this is a huge but now) it depends how much the customer is willing to pay.
When I enquired about a special sport suspension with lowering for my former 996, they told me that we speak about a 6 digit(!) sum. Same thing for sport exhaust systems, etc. when they were not available in 1998/1999.
It seems everything has to do with liability and legal issues. On my last visit at AMG, I enquired about a sport exhaust system because I heard that AMG did some mods for customers in the past, even if they weren't street legal. Customers had to sign a document that they do it on their own risk, especially if the get caught on the street by police/insurance (accident).
Now even that isn't possible anymore, everything has to be 100% legally certified before it is installed to customers.

This might be one reason why very very rich people usually go to Porsche/Mercedes/BMW etc. Tuners to have their dreams realized and built. Sometimes the results are very good, sometimes not.

And a last note: I met a lot of Porsche/Mercedes owners (just recently a Mercedes AMG owner) who tell incredible stories about factory special installs, etc. Trust me, most of them are lies. I really don't understand why people do that but maybe this gives them some kind of feeling to be special.
"You know, I'm Wendeling Wiedeking's personal friend..." or "Well, I'm so important, Porsche built a 600 HP engine just for me...".

The English translation is at the GB site:

Although even in English...the merits of some of these are rather dubious
