Does the new GT2RS use the same VTG chargers as 991 Turbo / S?

    It's just lens distortion.

    SportCarGroup:

Does the new GT2RS use the same VTG chargers as 991 Turbo / S?

They will be different in some way since the Turbo S ones can run to 607PS in the Turbo SE, 700PS will require greater flow.

It is probable they use the same hot side and they will likely have larger compressor side, at the very least a larger compressor wheel.

Weird when Porsche is not officially doing the Ring attempt until Sept.

Whatever people have recorded would be testing times.

Oh yeah they are testing and tuning the car still. It was clearly stated by the GT team back in Goodwood. They don't really lock in the official production spec until after the Ring attempt in Sept then starts production in Nov 2017

Makes sense, but why would they even bother testing with Trofeo R, if that will not be an OEM choice?  Might as well try real racing slicks as well...

I assume they'll also set a time with the new Dunlops which will be a factory offering (some say they should be faster than Cup2's).

If these times represent early efforts with improvements to follow, very impressive!

Pirelli is still a Porsche supplier. Regular 911s run PZeros so they have every right to test the Pirelli tires too Smiley

But the problem with Trofeo Rs is that it doesn't last, Porsche needs to weight performance vs durability. The tires have amazing grip, much higher than the Cup2s. My buddy who tracks a GT3RS at my track switched from N1 Cup2s to Trofeo R and picked up 2 seconds right away on the same day. But those Trofeo Rs only lasted 3 days on the track, about 100 laps and they are down to cords. The N0 Cup2s on my 918 however are amazingly durable. I have over 11,000km on the car now with about 200 laps on the track. Still got about 1-2mm left before the wear bar on the rears.

At the current rate of progress, it won't be too many more years before a street-legal Porsche is faster than Stefan Bellof's 956 (almost 35 year standing NOS record of 6:11.13)...

I have to believe that AP will address the poor exhaust system. However, I am not sure what he can do about it.

Today I drove behind a brand new TTS and I turned my radio off to listen to the exhaust. What I heard was NOTHING! Hell, my Targa was louder. Also, when I drove alongside and then in front of it, the front end looked like any other 911 and this car cost over $230,000!heart

I owned one. Great car but not very exciting. I would rather get a roomy comfortable car with some power rather than drive around in a small powerful car that doesn't excite me. You have to admit it is boring despite all its power.

the turbo (S) is one of the most expensive cars to take you from A to B, in a very fast way but without any enjoyment.

I agree, the Turbo S sounds like crap but I never believed Porsche when they said this is what customers want...until Markus told me and many other Turbo/S owners I met. They seem to be perfectly happy with the sound, so I guess I know now why I moved on. Smiley Smiley

Still, I don't think the lack of sound on a sportscar like the Turbo was on purpose for that reason, they simply werent able to make it better due to the VTG and used the fact that "some" customers prefer a lack of sound as an excuse, otherwise they would of simply used flaps for on / off sound and satisfy all customers.

I want to believe this as well but many really seem to enjoy the "stealthy" performance of the Turbo S. Smiley

Best example: We drove in a group through a city in Austria. Front car was a Turbo S. At a stop light, after it turned green, he fully accelerated (and way beyond the speed limit of 50 kph in that town). I was behind him and accelerated as well up to 50 or 55 kph Smiley and immediately received my usual middle finger and fist in the air from a young woman and an older guy. Smiley OK, group driving is always a bit provoking but that Turbo S guy was doing at least 80 when he put the foot on his brakes. Nobody cared. Best car to drive fast without being noticed. Smiley Smiley
