    Sport Auto will have two cars for their reviews: One PDK car for the Nordschleife (apparently Porsche insisted on PDK, no surprise here...they don't want to be slower Smiley) and one car for normal reviews and maybe Hockenheim (possibly even in comparison to the PDK version). This is an excellent idea in my opinion.

    Just had a look at the new car - very nice. Rear styling/spoiler changes are pretty subtle. I prefer the new front - looks very neat. Rear diffuser is quite big and looks like it will be a 'service item'. Plastic vanes though so should be cheap.

    Don't like the striped seats, but otherwise kiss

    Porsche seems to make a big deal out of the secrecy about a new 991.2 GT3 RS, probably because they want to sell the GT3 first. Smiley Smiley Smiley

    Porsche is smart to offer RS with pdk only - this means they'll have no problem selling out the GT3 (and RS)...

    You cannot even compare, the R was a unique limited edition car which brought some things never seen before (i.e. A GT3 without a wing and fitted with a diffuser).

    Every recent Manual GT Department car has sold like crazy (with big premiums).  No reason to believe the market is saturated yet.  Just because you can't imagine choosing manual over PDK (or a wing over wingless), doesn't mean all the buyers agree...

    Sorry but it is just an opinion based on an educated guess. Practicality and ultimate performance will trump nostalgia when times comes to choose the options. Recently people bought manuals because they though it was the last one. Doesn't seem like the last one is anywhere close...

    I think some markets will be heavily skewed to PDK, but I think overall worldwide manual sales will be well over 20% (probably at leastdouble that for US).

    The performance delta is way smaller than what most people think. PDK is a big advantage for 0-60 due to launch control.  But on most road courses (where the GT3 lives), the manual will be very close to PDK (especially with the enhanced redline and torque where 7 gears is not much advantage anymore).

    I think the real question is:  To the extent that there is almost no performance advantage for PDK-S on a road course, would you still forego the pleasure of manual shifting? Smiley

    Can't wait to see the laptime comparisons at Hockenheim that RC mentioned.  The 911R beat the 991.1 GT3 and the new GT3 will be quicker than the R for sure. I expect the cars to be within a couple or few tenths.

    Germany is definitely a market where I expected big volume advantage for PDK.

    RC, as an Autobahn guy you should prefer Manual - it has a higher top speed Smiley

    Btw, there won't be a 039 Touring Paket option.  It was cancelled after some thinking. And it did not feature wingless GT3. Rather 2+2...angry

    PTS deliveries should start in EU from January 2018 earliest.

    One of our sources says the car comes for sure but probably after the GT2 RS.

    Our sources with Porsche Motorsport are limited, so... Smiley

    In my opinion, it is a shame to order such an engineering-optimized car with manual, in a sense it defeats its purpose.  It is like pairing the courses of a menu at a Michelin-starred restaurant with cheap wine.

    Practicality and ultimate performance will never trump driver's involvement and feeling. That is why manual still sells.

    I have met enough people on track days who said they want manual because it is more fun than PDK.

    When Ferrari went to all paddle shifter, they were asked why they did not offer MT. The answer;

    The car was designed for performance and the F1 transmission is designed to enhance that performance. MT does not enhance performance.

    Seriously if someone feels strongly that MT is more fun to drive, they should considered a Miata or other cheaper cars which offer MT. It make no sense to handicap the GT3 with MT.
