Are your paranoid about scratches and breaking som

Hi all, well i had to repair the window regulator on my golf gti again for the 2nd time the 1st i replaced the clips and the cable and now the cable had jammed up and i ended up scratching the door card slighty on the top edges when placing it in my garage.

Lucky the wosrt was just paint scrap and has come off with some turlewax tyre / trim detailer.

But it just gets my hair off when i'm trying to fixing something and i end up braking something in the process.

When i first took the door card off i ended up pulling up on the handle to pull it off, not relising that i was pulling the door card off aswell, because the trim locks the handle to the card and even though i'd pulled the trim off my hand was pulling on the door card at the time time instead of just the handle!

But on saying that the previous person to take the door car off had used a screwdriver because they'd scratched the door getting the card unclipped!

I'm bloody paranoid about scratching or marking anything, stone chips etc and thats just on a 1999 golf gti, so i'm not sure what you guys are like with the porsches esspecialy the CGT!

Re: Are your paranoid about scratches and breaking

    Hey Buddy,

MY guess? You just have to take more time in the preparation phase of your project.

I made a rule a long time ago I would not undertake any new projects unless my work area was totally clean and organized.

This includes protecting surfaces, having supplies, all necessary tools and so on.

I'd cover doors and paint with this stuff or similar.

Re: Are your paranoid about scratches and breaking

    MMD,
It's not too often that I come across someone who I believe can exceed my own penchant for keeping things clean,
organized, well supplied, correct tool for the job, etc, etc.

Re: Are your paranoid about scratches and breaking

Easier said than done when doing a messy job.

But i always try to keep things clean when working on the car, ie when doing oil changes i wipe clean sump plug and tools, i'm rather obsessed about getting grit or dirt in the engine.

I bloody hate taking the filler cap off and seeing bits of grit all over it.

Re: Are your paranoid about scratches and breaking

I have the work done for me by someone else so they are accountable for the quality and potential damage. Hah!
