    RS Tuning for Carrera GT

I talked to Gerhart at RS Tuning about the price for the Carrera GT programs.

    Original engine data:
    Poweroutput:450KW/612HP at 8000rpm
    Torque:590 NM at 5750rpm

    1.) RS-TUNING 690HP-ENGINE MODIFICATION

    Poweroutput:507KW/690HP at 8100rpm
    Torque: 648NM at 5750rpm

    -new exhaust manifolds left/right
-new 100cells catconvertes in the original housing
-RS-TUNING sportexhaussystem with sound valves in exchange
    -Switch quiet/sound
    -new airfilters
    -nwe ECU with RS-Tuning programming
    -Ignition and injection programming
    -Installation

    Modification time: 4-5weeks

    Topspeed is higher then 355km/h!!!

    or

    1a.) RS-TUNING 730HP-ENGINE MODIFICATION

    Poweroutput:536KW/730HP at 8000rpm
    Torque: 679NM at 5700rpm
    -6.0ltr crankcase modification
    -in/ex cams in exchange
    -new piston 6.0
    -new exhaust manifolds left/right
-new 100cells catconvertes in the original housing
-RS-TUNING sportexhaussystem with sound valves in exchange
    -Switch quiet/sound
    -new airfilters
-nwe ECU with RS-Tuning 6.0 programming
    -Ignition and injection 6.0 programming
    -Installation

    Modification time: 11-12weeks

    Topspeed is higher then 360km/h!!!

    2.) LOWERING KIT
We keep the original springs in the car!
    Front: -15mm
    Rear: -15mm

    Modification time: 1 week

The 690 hp tuning will cost you about 50,000 euro, the 730 hp 6.0 liter tuning will cost you about 150,000 euro, WOW! I asked him what the 0-300 time would be for the 690 hp tuning and he said he has not timed it but would guess about 3 seconds faster than stock. I asked him, if I tuned my GT2 to 542 hp, would it outrun my stock Carrera GT and he said no, the carrera GT would still be faster. I then asked him if he thought the Porsche factory was inacurate with their published figure of 0-300 kph of about 27 seconds, since the magazine tests indicated substantially higher figures. He said no the factory figure is correct. He said that the Porsche factory drivers have tested the car hundred of times and know the car way better than any testing magazine which may have done such a test only a limited number of times. He said that the difference in times has to do with the optimum rpm to shift through the various gears. Waiting until redline does not mean a faster time and to the contrary could yeild a slower time.

Re: RS Tuning for Carrera GT

Tom, I would never touch a Carrera GT engine.
Unless you have tons of money and tons of other cars.

If you want to have a car faster than a Carrera GT (straight line), ask Schmirler for lowering your GT2's weight as much as possible (costs a fortune if done right) and also ask him for the most powerful mod possible for the GT2. It should be a 700 HP engine, cost was more than 100000 Euro last time I saw a price tag on it as far as I remember. Add a shorter gear ratio but a long sixth gear and you'll have a car which is definetely faster than a Carrera GT.

Tom, I really don't understand what you want: do you want a real nice streetlegal racecar to enjoy, like the Carrera GT or do you want a car which is faster than almost everything on the street out there, at least speaking of straight line performance?

Personally, if you'd give me 250000 Euro to do with them what I want, I would buy a Lamborghini Murcielago and maybe mod it a little bit. Maybe. I wouldn't even have to think more than ten seconds about it. It looks spectacular, it drives spectacular. For 500000 Euro, I would get a Carrera GT, definetely. And give me more than one million Euro and I get myself a Bugatti Veyron. Life is simple...

Re: RS Tuning for Carrera GT

Go for it Tom. If you have the cash...and like mod'ing cars...it would be a very interesting project! Don't forget to keep us informed and provide heaps of pics and vids!

Very interesting post, thanks a lot

However, I have some questions regarding GS's statements:

    - why was the RS-tuning 996GT2 with 542hp tested by sportauto some two years ago so much faster (up to 300kph) than the Carrera GT? (Note: the sportauto GT2 did 0-300 in 28-29s, i.e. on par with the CLAIMED Carrera GT performance but much faster than the TESTED Carrera GT performance); maybe RS sent a "very special" test car which has not too much in common with customer cars...
    - Adding 60hp to the 996GT2 should only reduced 0-300 by 3 seconds??? Just look at the 996TT, where the 30hp x50 option saves you around 5 seconds or so at least (0-300)...
    - is it really likely that (by shifting at some point before the rev limit instead of shifting at the rev limit) you gain 5-7 seconds up to 300kph (that's what GS apparently claims)? I doubt it. The GT reaches max power at 8000/min.

In summary, GS's statements are interesting but do not seem to make 100% sense

Re: RS Tuning for Carrera GT

I would follow RC's advise on this one... I wouldn't touch the CGT engine.. heck, I wouldn't even change the exhaust.

Tom, if you want to spend money on the car hire some of the factory's test drivers and spend a weekend with them on a track. You'll be surprised how much you can get out of your car as is. I have put aver 20,000 km on mine and I have taken it to the track at least 8 times and still have not explored 70% of its potential.

They probably reduced some weight as well. Regarding the CGT test, I have a suspicion that perhaps something had gone wrong in that test. Shame they didn't bring the CGT to the recent Nardo test.

Re: RS Tuning for Carrera GT

I never said in my post I was going to mod my CGT. I'm not touching it. I just was sharing the price it would be to do so, along with what I was told. I do want to keep open the stock exhaust like I did on my 360 CS. I read this could be done on the CGT. I still have not located the vacuum hose that allows for this reversable mod.

Re: RS Tuning for Carrera GT

You can only modify a Carrera GT if you own another one
