    Urgent help on paint defect

    Hi All,

I purchased a 987 back in Jan, but found 2 bright circulat spots of paint defect on the rear trunk of the car after taking it home. Finally brought it into the dealership for them to check on this (after 3 prior attempts), and the service representative wants to bring the car to their bodyshop for repainting.

From my previous visit to the same dealership, a tech told me that repainting would not be desirable since the paint may look differently than the rest of the car as it ages....

What I would like to know is what you experts out there think I should do.
As the car is in the shop with the service guy waiting for my call, I'd appreciate any quick responses from the members

    thx

Re: Urgent help on paint defect

Depends on how bad is the defect. (what color is it?)
If you can easily see it from any angle, you might need to fox it.
But if not that bad, you might want to leave it.
Repaint will affect your resale value, and it is true that it won't be 100% same as your original paint.

Also, how big is the area that they will repaint?

Re: Urgent help on paint defect

    it's arctic silver
it's visible under certain lighting conditions
not that bad, bright spots about the diameter of tennis balls
    ontop of the hood.
    especially visible under fluorescent lights.

Re: Urgent help on paint defect

If you can see it, and it's preying on your mind, I think you should let them repaint it.

Re: Urgent help on paint defect

It might not be in the paint instead it could be on the clear coat. I'm no paint expert but it might be worth bringing to somebody that is before re-painting. Perhaps it's something that will come off with wet sanding ? Dunno.

Re: Urgent help on paint defect

If its the size of a tennis ball you want it sorting, and a full written guarantee on the work undertaken

Re: Urgent help on paint defect

Sounds to me as if they're trying to get out of the respray commitment.

Re: Urgent help on paint defect

Maybe they already tried fixing something, and that's what the bright areas are!

There having a laugh , tell them to sort it I had the same problem on my daughters car , she had two circular blemishes on each rear passenger doors and on looking very closely a expert told me on my drive it was a quick fix to cover up some chips/defects.I immediately phoned the dealer and they said bring it in its not a problem because of the paint warranty , I took it for them to have a look and they stated to get a perfect match they would try and get two new doors from the factory off the SAME PRODUCTION LINE to ensure paint colour match , this they did to my complete satisfaction and the matching was perfect..

Is your car new or used ? have words and tell them you will just leave the car there for them to sort it and mention a media chat if need be because they really are taking the p**s ..

I feel strong about things like this because it takes the enjoyment away from ownership..

    Good Luck ..

Just had a chat with my daughter and she reminded me that the two circular blemishes we were told were from a spray nozzle and on direct sunlight they stuck out like a sore thumb even more..

    throt..

PS (ADD ) , Her car was silver as well and I was told its the worse colour to do a cowboy job on , its got to be done correctly..

Re: Urgent help on paint defect

I have a similar paint defect on the rear wing but about 1 inch diameter! One of the reasons my car is being replaced!! I'm not sure how they would paint and match silver too well. You may have an option to reject if the car isnt very old.

I wouldnt accept a respray. If you did I would look for compensation as it may affect resale. After all the car is meant to be blemish free.

    Reject!!!!!
