    the new turbo ...

    and his wheels.
Some months ago (eastern 2005) a friend showed me a new
wheel for a new porsche model. I was very excited because i haven't expected such a wheel. It's size is 19" and it looks like a wheel for a show car. I asked him if i could take a picture but he did not want that. Weeks after this happening i start to remember and make some scribbles of the new wheel.
Yesterday i saw new pictures of the 997 prototype in this forum and now i know that these wheels are for the new 997 turbo. Very interesting...

    Re: the new turbo ...

and this is the picture of the prototype...

    Re: the new turbo ...

I think you are right .... If this is the new wheels for the Turbo i am very disappointed to say the least ,, nice but nothing special at all . The 997 so needed a really distinctive wheel that kind of redefined this new design era for Porsche ,and I figured they were waiting for the Turbo to introduce it .

Looks like a variation of the new Ferrari wheel with one more spoke .

    Re: the new turbo ...

I am happy to see a complete change.... I never realy liked the 'old' wheels. These look very sporty and light!

    Re: the new turbo ...

    I dont like it...doesnt look aggressive :-(

    Re: the new turbo ...

Anybody notice the potential for the headlights on the 997TT to be smaller than the current 997? I'm trying to imagine what it would look like without the camo tape and it still looks smaller than the 997's headlights.

    Re: the new turbo ...

I think you are right .... Yes, of course (!) because i've hold the new wheel in my own hands!

    Re: the new turbo ...

Your drawings look better than the actual wheel. I really hope this isn't the only wheel for the Turbo. If so I'll probably go after-market when I get my car. I really liked the old Turbo wheel design. Looked really good on the Turbo. Gave it a muscular look. This new design looks fragile. Like something for a Toyota. I liked it's design the least of the Cayenne wheels. I remember first time I saw this design on the Cayenne. I remember thinking the Cayenne "Turbo" wheel and the 19 & 20" designs were so much better.

    Re: the new turbo ...

Only the Ferrari wheel looks great. Amazing that a slight design change (adding a 3rd thinner spoke and making the rest of the spokes thinner) can break the design.

    Re: the new turbo ...

In reality the new wheel looks more masculine and the prototype i saw was a chrome wheel which looks fantastic!
In comparison to the current wheels the new looks classic and modern too. Wait and see!

That's exactly what I intend to do. I find that the wheels on the test cars never look as good as those on the actual production version, even if they are similar.
I can't wait to see how they end up looking on the new Turbo.

    Re: the new turbo ...

Stradale you are right the Ferrari F430 Spider is absolutely beautiful . I for the first time would buy a Ferrari over a Porsche with this new model . I looked into it instead of ordering a C4S Cab , (the only problem to get one you must pay over a 100K over sticker) , I see you have both ...... the 2 perfect cars ...997 and F430 ...... too bad you can not get them for list price , if you could it would be a tough decision for me this go round .

    Re: the new turbo ...

    Farina,

Your drawings are lovely looking, but I still like the current (996) turbo wheels:

    Re: the new turbo ...

. . .Now that I'm "officially" able to use them as the above pic demonstrates.

Here's the 996 standard turbo wheel on my TSCab 2,000 miles in:

    Re: the new turbo ...

    Sorry dudes,

    Re: the new turbo ...

19" 993&993 Turbo wheels will look best, by far.

Problem is: there are no factory 19'' wheels for the 993&993 Turbo.

Hope you're right. Either you're right when I see it in person or hopefully there's a choice of wheels for the Turbo. I rather not go after-market.

    Thanks OCEAN.
My cars in the avatar are the 997 S Cabriolet and a Challenge Stradale.
I know what you're saying about buying a new 430 for list price. But you couldn't get the 360 new at list price either if you weren't on the wait list.

IMO- Put your deposit down now for the 997 Turbo Cab AND put your name and deposit down with Ferrari for the 430. In 1-3 years from now you'll be very glad you did.

    Re: the new turbo ...

The sickest Porsche wheel IMO are the Turbo S wheels. The Turbo wheels painted GT-Silver. Have you guys seen this wheel in person ? Sick !

    Re: the new turbo ...

    Al,
Didn't your S come with the painted GT-Silver wheels ? I know that pictures usually don't show the 996 Turbo S wheel that well but those look like the standard Turbo wheels.

    Stradale,

AFAIK, my wheels are the standard "Turbo Twist" wheels for the 996Turbo and TurboS-in fact, I thought there was only one standard "turbo" wheel (not a distinct one for the Turbo S different from the base turbo), with the same hollow 5-spoke pseudo-pinwheel design that is similar to the 993Turbo wheel-partly the reason I like it and hope that even if PAG makes a new "standard" turbo-design wheel that they keep the 5-spoke "turbo-twist" design as an option. In fact, PAG even touts this wheel design as being aerodynamically efficient as they state in their "Turbo S Coupe and Cabriolet" brochure that the "profiled spokes help reduce lift and improve braking by drawing warm air from the brake discs out around the sides of the car instead of beneath the chassis." I don't know if this is hyperbole or even reliably measurable an effect on the drag coefficient. Maybe one of the smart engineers on this forum could chime in.

The 18" Turbo hollow spoke light alloy wheels "painted in GT silver metallic with colored Porsche crests" are "standard" (no charge! ), code 410.

The 18" "GT3" wheel option (code 416) and 18" "Sport Techno monobloc light alloy wheels" (code XRC) were $ options (I don't know how much), but as I said, I prefer the Turbo Twisties, so here's hoping the 993/996 Turbo Twist wheels somehow make their way onto the 997TT-they'll just have to make 19 (? or 20) inchers as RC alluded to!

There is an extra option of wheels painted in exterior body color, but to me GT silver is classic, and anything else is a bit too white trash for me-just my opinion. So, to answer your question, maybe ny digital camera doesn't do justice to it, but I think these are "GT silver."
