    F430: original pininfarina sketch!

In my permanent search for this forum, i've found this beautiful pininfarina style drawing. It shows how gorgeous
car design can be if it's done by... pininfarina!

    Re: F430: original pininfarina sketch!

    ok...

    Re: F430: original pininfarina sketch!

    third try...

    Re: F430: original pininfarina sketch!

    Simply stunning.
Is it me, or some Lambo elements in the front lights?
    Very pretty! Thank you Farina.

    Re: F430: original pininfarina sketch!

    Looks nice, esp the back....
I def prefer the regular front though....
    Nice job though.

    Styling analysis

    Re: F430: original pininfarina sketch!

Farina, your pointing out the mirror design is just what I've been searching for.. Read below, look for the words in italic :

    Ferrari Imola On Track

Ferrari is moving to Imola - and fast. The hot new two-seater which will replace the 575 Maranello, is tipped to be named after the legendary circuit which hosts the San Marino Grand Prix. Exclusive pictures can be seen in the current issue of Auto Express

Taking its styling cues from the 612 Scaglietti, insiders tell us the new model will be called the F600 Imola, and will slot into the Ferrari range between the smaller F430 and the four-seater 612. The badge comes from the 600bhp, 6.0-litre V12 under the bonnet.

Designed by Pininfarina, the F600 will have aggressive features to mark it out as a focused supercar. Protruding wing mirrors, will become a styling hallmark of all future Ferraris.
Already part way through its development programme, our spies snapped the prototype leaving the factory. The test mule is wearing a cut-down 612 bodyshell, with the shorter wheelbase and ill-fitting panels clearly visible.

Many mechanical parts are shared with the 612, and the car will be based on an aluminium spaceframe chassis. Longer than the outgoing 575, the F600 will be a true driver's machine, but also far more stable when cornering.

The engine is derived from the unit found in the Enzo supercar, so buyers can look forward to a 0-60mph sprint time of around four seconds, while a clutchless manual transmission will provide the quickest possible gearchanges.

Expect the new supercoupé to have similar prices to the model it replaces, making F600 Imola ownership the preserve of those with a budget of at least Pounds150,000. Anyone with more to spend can also look forward to an open-top Barchetta version, scheduled for 2007.

    Re: F430: original pininfarina sketch!

the 612 looks better in the sketch than in real life

    Re: F430: original pininfarina sketch!

    V. nice, I love pininfarina sketches, where did you find this one? BTW, you can find on the pininfarina web site a downloadable .pdf file describing the design of F430 with sketches closer to the final design. (see below)

The front of the car shown above has more character than the final design, with influences of the 612 and the Ford "Start" show car. The back is definitely better on the final design, though.

    Re: F430: original pininfarina sketch!

I found this sketch in the current Auto&Design magazine (interview with s. pininfarina about projects and the future) Thanks for the other pininfarina sketch and the source...
I agree that the back now is much better but the front of the current car isn't better than the sketch (as you say it).

    Re: F430: original pininfarina sketch!

By the way: have you or has anyone seen the prototype-shots of the 575 successor and can post it here?
It must be the magazine "autoexpress uk"... i can't get this magazine anywhere!

    Re: F430: original pininfarina sketch!

Maybe you're right and in the front of the first modena rendering we've got a glimpse into the ferrari future.
As you said before the front is more impressive as the current F430. Would you be so kind to make a rendering for the next F600 Imola with this new styling elements and current 612-Look?

    Re: F430: original pininfarina sketch!

Ferrari officials stated ( after the prancing horse had long left the barn ) that they regretted releasing the Ken Okayama ( designer of the Enzo, 612, Quattrporte and recently returned to Ferrari after a 3 year stint running the Art Center College of Design in California ) pre-hype sketches of the 612 months prior to the real thing since the actual car was a crushing letdown for many tifosi as it looks like a comical Macy's Thanksgiving Parade blimp version of the beautiful, crisp , sleek car seen on the drawings. It's almost as if General Motor's marketing people did the final sign -offs .

Humm, am I the only one who likes the 612 Scaglietti????
I mean it's not perfect, I still am not crazy about the front 3/4 but the rest is very nice to my eyes. Not to mention it has a beautiful interior and how many 2+2s can do 192 mph....

I saw the cover of the magazine on their web-site and you could make out a tiny picture of a red car at the top corner. The fact that it was red led me to believe that it might be a more evolved prototype, but reading the text (as posted by shin) you understand that it might just be a photoshopped 612 proto colored red.

I started a few sketches, trying to imagine what it might look like and taking cues from the 612, the Rossa show car (remember it was based on 550/575) and even the pininfarina Enjoy (beautiful surfacing and details). But I'm sure they'll surprise us and do something unexpected!

I still believe it's a nice car in the right colors - I remember reading that S. Pininfarina said the 456 was not nice in red.

But I agree that the transition from sketch to reality was a let down. Maybe the sketches didn't reflect the true proportions of the real car, but some of the added details really didn't help: a lip around the front wheel openings, the horizontal crease coming off the front wheel opening and especially the loss of strong character of the rear quarter window. Ferrari and pininfarina always made very distinctive rear quarter windows (e.g. Dino, Daytona, BB, TR, etc.) not the Porsche-like 550/575 and 360/F430.

Lot's of hedging detected there !
I feel sorry for the designers, in a way. In moving the engine behind the front axle line , balance and handling is much improved but the V12 car is taking on " clown shoe " proportions . Since the coming 575 replacement shares the same new " front mid engine " chassis layout, I suspect it may have a more extreme cab-rearward form like old Jag XKEs , being a two seater. The 612 is a very relaxed retro 50's Ferrari silhouette .
I prefer the modern, muscular, taught " ready to pounce " stance of the Ferrari mid-engined V8s .
