    Black vs clear headlights ?

Why do so few people choose (standard) clear headlights? Most of the photos I've seen (and not just GT3's) are with black headlights: black PDLS or black LED.

I personnally don't like the look of the big round halo circle of the LED headlights, that's why I will probably choose Bi-Xenon. I like the 4 LED dots more when they're closer together. I won't be driving the GT3 much during the night, so I really don't bother with lumen output. Also I think I've read that LED only has better performance with the Low-Beams and that the High-Beams perform almost equally good.

I've noticed that the standard headlight unit has the lower part of the housing in black since the 991.2. It was all silver before. Now it's a little bit contrasty.

Re: Black vs clear headlights ?

Valid points, and I do think the round design of the PDLS fits the 911 shape better than the more "modern" squared style of the LED lights.

Strangely in CH the LED lights are part of the standard Swiss package. You'd actually have to pay extra to get the PDLS if I'm not mistaken.

Re: Black vs clear headlights ?

    Gauss,

I've chosen black headlights with xenon. For many reasons.

New headlights from 991.2 have closer led points and it is better. This is signature of phase II.

Xenon is 2500 more, and the look is really identical like phase I.

But you are right you need the pdls option at 800 euro something to get black into the headlights.

Car is there 14th of July, let see how it looks :-)

Re: Black vs clear headlights ?

I'm still not 100% set on a specific colour, but I'm tending a lot towards white or carrara white metallic (for now Smiley). I think the latter will pop more as it's a cooler hue. The non-metallic white is the traditionnal motorsport white, which is tempting because of that. The CUP car for instance is in plain white with clear standard headlights and I think that works pretty well, even with silver wheels.

On the other hand, the combination of metallic white and Aluminum satin wheels looks also ace Smiley

Personnally I think black headlights work best on darker shades, but I'm sure many will disagree and say exactly the opposite Smiley

@Frank, What exactly does the Swiss package include, other than the headlamps?

@thierry, Wow, July already, I so envy you and can't wait to see it Smiley  What paint did you go for in the end ?

Re: Black vs clear headlights ?

    gauss,

I have bought my 2  991 gt3 second hand. I had no choice except white.

I decided to go for metallic black as I always wanted one.

some will not like it, but at the end it should only please myself Smiley

i went for red stitching, 918 seats, club sport , and anthracite wheels.

Re: Black vs clear headlights ?

Lol, this is funny. Your spec is exactly the same like the one I have signed at my dealership, except for the stitching, which I didn't choose. I also picked the black PDLS headlights for the metallic black, plus I chose the bigger fuel tank and Sport chrono of course. That's about it I think, but I got months to change the paint and play with the stitching combinations etc. heart

Have you considered the red seat belts. It would go nicely with the red stitching, together with the red marker on the steering wheel?

Btw I was very satisfied with the foldable bucket seats in my 997.2 GT3, and I don't know the new 918 bucket seats. How much do they differ, are they more upright? I have yet to try and sit in them and see if I prefer them over the foldable buckets. the latter were quite useful to store some bags behind the seats.

Re: Black vs clear headlights ?

    Gauss,

what you said is exactly my spec : black anthrazit wheels full leather red stitching red seatbelts red marking on steering wheel lift system tempomat sport chrono 918 seats club sport black pdls Porsche logo embossed on central tunnel.

the 918 seats are expensive but very good if you are not too big. It makes the difference in the car.

and this is giving the difference vs mark 1.

hope your dealer is not Losch . I sweared to Never buy a car again . The chief of maintenance is just not service oriented .if we met one time I will tell you some stories about them ....

Re: Black vs clear headlights ?

    Joel ,

I took the black PDLS on my RS as there was no point for me spending money on LED's as I hardly ever drive the car at night and when I do , the PDLS are good enough . I wanted the blacked out look . Here is a  photo .

The 918 seats are fantastic . Really ! The hold better at the shoulder , but are maybe a little bit larger at the bottom . I have a narrow waist , and feel ok .  I can do 600 km and have no back pain with them.  The only down side is access to the back .

Your RS looks awesome! Very purposeful. The black headlights suit it very well.

Unfortunately this black PDLS is not an option on the current GT3. It's different. The GT3's PDLS doesn't have the outer rim in black, but in silver instead. Only the inner housing is black, even the light bulb body is still in chrome. Let me see if I can find a photo.

Re: Black vs clear headlights ?

here you go. The PDLS in the GT3 configurator is the one to the left. Only the inner housing is black.

Its what I have been trying to tell you. Black PDLS is not available as of yet. However, if you order PDLS the inner housing will be a darker gray compared to the standard headlights. The difference between headlights with PDLS and standard is noticeable because of the darker housing.Smiley
