That huge glass centre console looks aweful, more fitting in a big sedan...

The gear selector can’t be the production version. It looks a joke the instrument cluster also looks horrible.

    Re: Porsche 992 Thread Closed

Interior looks awkward. They appear to be shoving parts for a larger car into a smaller car. We now have the opposite problem from the first cayennes and panameras. That shelf under the flat screens reminds me of 70s and 80s Fords and Buicks. The shifter looks appalling. Too many different kinds switch gear. Just ugly.

    Re: Porsche 992 Thread Closed

Awkward and chaotic shapes combined into a disharmonious format, as other have noted.  So far, extremely disappointing since Michael Mauer is also the Volkswagen Group head of design.

    Re: Porsche 992 Thread Closed

Yes, that's exactly what I was talking about and afraid of...this ugly interior mail Damn...I was hoping they will change it for the serial car, but it looks like that this is the final shape. It looks like $hit enlightened

    Re: Porsche 992 Thread Closed

Hopefully the design team at Porsche are just having a post-ironic laugh with the terrible awful looking interior on those 992 test mules and the real production interior will be unveiled in a couple of weeks... Smiley

What you can be certain of is that Porsche will be reading the bad online feedback... Smiley

    Re: Porsche 992 Thread Closed

Interior is finished and it really looks controversial. With different interior trim options it does look little bit better.

    Re: Porsche 992 Thread Closed

The interior is quite awful as far as I can tell from the pics. The gear lever is offensive! Clear case of a company that knows they can get away with anything....

    Re: Porsche 992 Thread Closed

The upper dash looks like a welcome determined effort to return to the classic 911 style whilst still incorporating a TFT screen for the infotainment.

The centre console is the big let down as it just does not flow with the upper dash and therefore looks like an awkward afterthought and one where a senior official has insisted there must be the dreaded family resemblance. The only car the new centre console works visually seamlessly with is the Panamera where is flows into the upper dash without the awkward face level air vents in the new Cayenne. The infotainment screen also integrates far more elegantly into the middle dash strip in the Panamera whilst it hangs down somewhat inelegantly in the Cayenne. Trying to adopt a common design language for completely different vehicles is a headache for designers and I really have no idea why marketing people think it is necessary. Do buyers really need the interior of a 911 to look reassuring familiar to an SUV or luxury sedan.?? I rather suspect most of us would prefer something unique, driver focused and probably more minimalist.

I wish they had carried the return to the traditional 911 dash onto the centre console, slimmed it down and made it flat like this quick render. Everything would still have been in easy reach and the cabin would have felt a bit larger with the rising slab of plastic removed from it. One thing's for sure - we are going to stuck with that awful centre console design for the 992.2 as well as it will be too costly to re-engineer I fear.

this new way of doing one brand style and apply to all models is what Audi started few years ago and see where they are today...enlightened

it is a mistake from my point of view, 911 has nothing to deal with fat whales, it should have its own identity and the rest of the range picking up some details from it. not the other way around.

but we are not the crowd, the company is selling 70% of SUVs...our end is near smiley 992 will be the biggest success of 911 history again.

I am happy with 991.2 even if it is far from looking nice...angry

    Re: Porsche 992 Thread Closed

Brand identity marketing may have done a lot for 928 sales back in the day. I’m not a fan of the trend but the marketing gurus read threads like this and what they hear is either Porsche new is awful or Porsche old is boring. So they decide to ignore enthusiasts and purists who cannot be satisfied anyway, and pitch to those who find the image of the brand appealing and are willing to pay a premium for that image at multiple price points and in multiple vehicle types.

With the 992, Porsche delivers a Panamera Coupe. The corporate look will help it sell in markets with little 911 heritage like China by tying the new Panamera Coupe to the Minivans and the Corporate 4 door sedan.

This design move expresses how tiny the 911 is in VW's portfolio, just an afterthought.

    Re: Porsche 992 Thread Closed

There is no Porsche without the 911 in my mind. Not like they have any other high end sports cars. I wouldn’t count the boxster or cayman as making the grade. No 928. No 720/488 competitor. No DB11 competitor. Etc etc.

So, I cannot shift manually with the PDK-stick anymore ?

Sure, just put the shaver into moustache-trimming mode first, then it should work as normal

That was never possible without a clutch.

    Could not resist.

You could move a little toggle lever which shifted gears for you automatically into the gear of your choosing almost when you want it but without the finness or a foot operated clutch.

    Re: Porsche 992 Thread Closed

Ok, just for the sake of clarification: it seems like the new PDK has no manual mode anymore, ie. what was possible before to change gears not with the paddles but the PDK-stick is gone?

There‘s a button, marked “M“, so I guess pressing that will lead to manual mode, just as Ferrari does it.

But in a Ferrari the buttons look gorgeous and there is no silly Braun-shaver-shaped lever. Smiley

I don’t see any +/- buttons on it, and it looks to only move in one axis so my guess would be no..

    Re: Porsche 992 Thread Closed

Well that ‘thing’ aka Braun shaver is certainly not shaped to be pulled or pushed.

Which is really a pity because also drivers line me - who now prefer auto to manuals- like to have a gearlever to grab and use while driving fast. It gives a different sensation than just pulling a steerin wheel paddle!

Guess the argument is that the auto mode cant be neaten anyway, so why offer two ways to give input to the driver and screw it up... unfortunately given impulse to the car is exactly what driving is about! Otherwise i might just sit in a cab and be a passenger...

    New "Braun" shaver model 992 has four functions-P, N, D and R.

Manual mode is present of course and works only with paddles. There is five driving modes with SC. New mode is Wet.

    Re: Porsche 992 Thread Closed

    This month.

    Re: Porsche 992 Thread Closed

They have tested the car with a manual box but I guess that is no guarantee it will make it to market. I hope they drop the 7 speed if it does in favour of the 6 speed but doubt very much that will happen.

I was quickly in Stuttgart city today. I did see 3 almost not camouflaged cars in the flesh. One blue, red and white car. It looks very good from the rear. Front the side and front - I almost didn't recognize that it is the 992. Actually the camouflage was giving me the hint, otherwise, I would not have recognized that car.

not recognized in that it looked so similar to a 991?
