    Re: 2010 F1 drivers pairings

Raikkonen said that IF he stays in F1 he wants to be in a team with which he can go for the title.

The only such team is McLaren. True that Brawn and RBR were surprise front runners this year but that was because of the new rules, diffuser etc. Next year I expect the F1formbook to be restored.

My point exactly! Norbert Haug has already mentioned Kimi. It's a done deal unless he decides to quit and perhaps go to the WRC.

Single seaters are way different to closed cockpit race cars. These pilots have been driving single seaters all their lives and asking them to change their driving style is like asking a fighter pilot to fly a cargo plane.

Maybe it's motivation, maybe the cars are different to drive.

But I think, there is just much more dead weight in the rules to guarantee a level playing field, like the weights added to the winner and stuff.

And don't forget, all the big names are with Mercedes Smiley

    R. Schumacher is the last F1 pilot remaining and currently ranks 12th in a Mercedes top car.

F1 drivers are wanted for their popularity and go there for the cash, what good can come out of such a deal?

There is a difference between monoposto and touringcar racing, in particular DTM. Laptimes on the later are closer together and the performance window on these cars is just as small as in F1. The difference however is, that F1 cars can be adapted to one´s driving style in terms suspension and aerodynamics and, in the long run, even by adapting technology and layout.

I do believe that most versatile drivers were able to adapt in DTM, such as Hakkinen and, to some extent, Alesi but drivers such as Ralf Schumacher, who seems to belong to those drivers that are only quick when the car fits perfectly, have some difficulties to properly adapt.

was reading right now that in spanish ¨marca¨ sports newspaper. Smiley

In theory its a good idea, specially having two British pilots for a British team Smiley, but there are way too many pilots that are far better than Butoon, like for example the new Japanese Kamui Kobayashi, and he only has one GP in his curriculum Smiley, that guy is going to be a surprise for everyone, from what I saw in Interlagos, I was amazed and surprised Smiley

IMO, Jenson Button knows he wont have another chance of having a winner car with such a clear advantage towards its competitors, therefore, there is a very high chance he wont do a single podium in 2010 season, and that is being very optimistic Smiley......may be I am wrong, but those are my feelings.

Raikkonen's pay demands 'much too high' - Howett

Toyota will not reach a deal with Kimi Raikkonen for the 2010 season unless he drops his exorbitant pay demands, team president John Howett insists.

The Cologne based team has made Finn Raikkonen, 30, an offer, Briton Howett revealed last weekend in Brazil.

"He gave us back a figure that is much too high," he is quoted as saying by the Swiss publication Motorsport Aktuell.

"He says he has two options, so we are going to wait," Howett added.

It is believed that Raikkonen will receive about 25 million euros from Ferrari for agreeing to end his 2010 contract, while his management is asking about the same amount from both McLaren and Toyota.

A swap with Rubens at Brawn is the hot favourite... it'll certainly be a team using a Mercedes engine.

    Re: 2010 F1 drivers pairings

So Kimi will only race for McLaren if he is to stay in F1. This is his best option but I can't see them paying the type of money he wants. The Kimster will have to learn to be a little more humble if he is going to race for them.

If only McLaren could have gotten Vettel. Hamilton and Vettel would be a pretty strong pairing.

This smells like bad management at McLaren/Mercedes, and totally confirms the impression I got from the past.

It's time that they improve that, with lower budget they won't be able to compensate that.

    Re: 2010 F1 drivers pairings

I think we'll see Button sign up with Brawn. I honestly don't think Button will want to be Hamilton's team-mate at McLaren since, deep down, I don't think Button thinks he is quicker than Hamilton.

Since it's all change at Williams, Barrichello is probably happy to go there as the 'senior driver with experience'. Williams badly needs an experienced driver after the abysmal season they've had (Rosberg wasn't that bad but Nakajima has been truly atrocious IMO).

I think Rosberg will indeed be a straight swap with Barrichello. Button won't mind - he won't expect Rosberg to upstage and outperform him.

I wonder who will give Kovaleinen a race seat? What career does Fisichella have left? And who will pay Raikkonen's asking price for a driver who IMO lacks commitment and has IMO an unprofessional attitude?

I'll be really pleased if Kobayashi stays in F1 - he's a young lad with guts and potential. I hope Glock also gets a race seat again - he certainly earned it this year. I do wonder what Trulli has left to offer F1. He's always been strong in qualification but he only rarely reproduces that form in the race itself. He IMO will remain an also-ran.

The same goes for Heidfeld - he simply aims to finish races without taking risks. He's steady but scarcely shines.

Surely Grosjean and Alguersuari are not ready for F1 yet (perhaps they never will be). But Buemi IMO still deserves to stay - but only just!

I also think Sutil and Liuzzi need to improve in order to merit their places in F1.

While Webber and Vettel will remain a highly potent team, what is really making me look forward to 2010 with excitement is the prospect of seeing Massa vs Alonso at Ferrari. That contest will be dynamite
