    Engine Losing Boost Pressure

Hi All, my 997 TT is losing pressure in the turbos under hard acceleration. Regardless if I have sport on or off, around 15 psi the engine looses about 4 pounds of boost, builds up again to around 15, loose about 4 pounds and so on. It makes for a pretty bumpy and weird ride as the pressure boosts, drops and reboosts.

I checked the fluid levels and everything seems fine. Any ideas? The car has about 6K miles and this is the first i'm experiencing this problem despite having cranked up the turbos to full overboost a number of times. My car is all stock without any mods.

    Re: Engine Losing Boost Pressure

check your boost hoses behind the rear wheels for leaks. Sometimes a hose will come partially off. Is the car idling funny?

    Re: Engine Losing Boost Pressure

Thanks eclou. The car sounded normal when it was idling. Although I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary, I didn't look real close either. I'll also look more closely for any loose hoses and let you if I find anything.

    Re: Engine Losing Boost Pressure

Faulty boost sensor couple with the high altitude?

    Re: Engine Losing Boost Pressure

Take it to the dealer as the car is under warranty and have them scratch their brains finding out the malfunction's cause.

    Re: Engine Losing Boost Pressure

Thanks everybody. I checked the hoses and everything's attached nice and tight, so no loose hoses. I've made a service appointment for Monday. I'll let you know what the dealership finds out.

    Re: Engine Losing Boost Pressure

They are the Hoses for sure.. I had the same problem.. You have to take out the rear bumper to check.. (The ones that goes to the intercoolers) Also if you have placed different exhaust check the headers.. and Finaly check and the hose behind the muff.. (I Also had an air lose there)

    Re: Engine Losing Boost Pressure

Hey, thanks! That doesn't sound so bad. I didn't change the exhaust, so it's not the headers (unless the stock ones are loose I guess). I'll follow-up with the group and let you know what it is once it's fixed.

    Re: Engine Losing Boost Pressure

Came back from the dealership and they said that I probably had some "bad fuel" in the vehicle and that the turbos fluctuating between 15 & 18 psi was normal under full acceleration. I debated this point with the technician on account of me seeing the psi pegged at 18 psi under full overboost and never fluctuate. He said that was not normal and what i'm seeing now is normal.

What do all of you see? I have the burning suspicion that the Porsche dealership in downtown Salt Lake City don't know what they're talking about, lazy or just trying to blow-off this problem.

    Re: Engine Losing Boost Pressure

Not that this pertains to the 997TT, but I had a similar problem with my '01 Audi TT. Dealership couldn't figure it out. After I did an ECU upgrade the problem became more apparent and eventually I switched the stock Bosch diverter valve with a metal Bailey valve - problem disappeared. It was only under full acceleration and the car would tend to hesitate. I have no idea if this could be happening in the 997tt, but it may be something to check.

find another dealer, a stock car should boost 18 psi during overboost and then drops to 15psi.
15 psi during overboost is not normal.
tuned cars boost 18 psi all the time regardless of rpm. hope that helps.
