This will be the first time I get to watch the F1 race at Spa after having driven the track.  Will make it more interesting, I think...

'Red Bull inching closer to Mercedes', says Horner

"Our objective is to close that gap further to Mercedes ahead," said Horner.

"You've always got to look ahead rather than behind. We've had great performance at a variety of circuits from Austria to Silverstone to Budapest and Germany.

"They are four very different venues, four different surfaces and that bodes well for the second half of the season. There are some races on the calendar which will hopefully be favourable to us."

    Let's hope he is right.

Re: 2016 Belgian F1 Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps

Routine drive for Rosberg to win from the pole with Hamilton starting at the back.

Fantastic drive again for Hamilton to finish 3rd after starting at the back, and he is 6 for 6 to finish at least in the points from the back of the grid, that's even more impressive.

Bernie should push for having Max and Kimi in the same team, that will provide more fireworks and entertainment to F1 in addition to the Rosberg/Hamilton combo.

Hamilton's drive today is a good indicator of how much better than everyone else the Mercedes remains. I think Red Bull has (despite Verstappen's placement) the advantage over Ferrari now, but they both have a huge amount of ground to make up to catch Mercedes. Not this season, I don't think. Maybe next year with the regulation changes.

An awful day for Verstappen from lights out. He's a good driver, but I think the FIA are going to have to start sticking some penalties on him. He's too reckless, basically causing most of the turn 1 mayhem after getting a bad start, and his "defensive" moves vs. Raikkonen and others are getting more than a bit out of hand with every race. He should have been penalized before this, and the FIA have sent him the wrong message by not doing so. I think they may need to take corrective action at the next opportunity before he causes a serious accident.

Not a bad day for Alonso, but bad luck for Jenson Button.

Very interessting after GP press conferende

    It's pretty clear who's the leader @Mercedes GP and who's #2 :-P

First corner was not Verstappen's fault. He was in full control, no locked wheels or anything. Not just my opinion, but also DC and Webber's. First corner is to be blamed on Vettel, but that's racing.

After that with a damaged car (1.5 seconds per lap), he was on the limit and frustrated for sure. But I'm sure Ferrari made a complaint and the FIA looked into it. No reason for investigation or penalty , so end of story.

But people should stop wining, this is racing. Otherwise they should just do a qualifying and call that the end result.

Re: 2016 Belgian F1 Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps

From my point of view, Max had a terrible start, something I think he was not prepared for. He ended up in full traffic in la source and chose a position that a more experienced driver probably would not have chosen. Having said that, one could also argue that Seb should have left more room.... so, I call this a racing incident, not a fault to blame anybody for.
Max's struggle with Kimi an later Perez... I am no expert, but it looks on or over the edge, I understand Kimi's frustration and in this case I am inclined to give Kimi the benefit of the doubt here.

What was with the crowd booing Rosberg during the ceremony btw? Did Nico do something wrong, or was this as he mentioned just disappointment from the fans that it wasn't Max on the podium? If so, I feel a bit ashamed of my fellow Dutchmen, no need to boo a driver for something like that.

Didn't hear any booing on television to be honest? Just a very enthusiastic crowd.

    @Porker

maybe he was p**ed that Lewis finished third and Nico didn't take over championship lead again?!

Let's see what happens @Monza, that's gonna be very interesting race for sure as SV & KR have to make up for their poor performance @Spa.

I heard it and thought exactly the same. It was just disappointment that it wasn't Max and it seemed to be intended in good humor. (I was still glad that it wasn't Americans or Germans doing it though) Smiley

I watched this again, including the replays, and I think you are mostly right. Vettel didn't really leave anybody room, although, Verstappen was basically driving off the side of the track entering the turn. So, maybe equally at fault, with Raikkonen the innocent victim.

Max's struggle with Kimi an later Perez... I am no expert, but it looks on or over the edge, I understand Kimi's frustration and in this case I am inclined to give Kimi the benefit of the doubt here.

At one point with Raikkonen I think he made at least 4 moves. The first ones were small swerves, but it's a pattern in recent races, and one that goes beyond what is allowed, and I think the FIA need to rein him in a bit and let him know that he can't keep doing this. Obviously he's a good driver, but he needs to learn that you can't do "everything" to keep someone from passing you.

Re: 2016 Belgian F1 Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps

The first corner by Max was a silly move. No room for him to take it cleanly. I am a Max fan but he is pushing his luck. Down the straight and deliberately blocking KR at 200mph is life threatening,, too much I'm afraid and he should get his arse kicked for that.
