    Subaru 38
    Toyota 38
    Lexus 34

as usual japan cleans up...why anyone buys an MB is beyond me at this rate...

Re: Latest Consumer Reports Reliability Ratings

I wonder where Ferrari stands, but I am guessing they are not relevant enough to be rated and the fanboys, *cough*nberry*cough* will be hiding behind that reason and claim Porsche is too mass market-ed or their Ferraris are better build or whatever.

You are correct. Consumer reports only publishes data relevant to the mass population. High items like cars are not included because there are very few produced and the audience is too small to be measured. Porsches are mass produced and are included in just about every survey because alot of people own one.

    March 2007 sales numbers:

    Ford 106K
    GM 142K
    Daimler 85K
    Nissan 52K
    BMW 22K

    Porsche 2K

    Ferrari 116

Gee..., there's a big gap between 22k BMWs and 2k Porsches..., so..., If pressed I'd have to say Porsche and Ferrari are "exclusive" cars.

Re: Latest Consumer Reports Reliability Ratings

We'll never know how much money Ferrari (not the dealer) lose on every car. FIAT provides a big subsidy.....

Re: Latest Consumer Reports Reliability Ratings

Porsche produces close to 100,000 cars a year. I don't believe that is very exclusive. Be honest, you cannot use the word exclusive next to Porsche.

Nick, your viewpoint is understandable considering the center of your universe is your precious Ferrari. But most people living in the real world consider Porsche to be an exclusive car.

Re: Latest Consumer Reports Reliability Ratings

    David I have to disagree.

Maybe I've floated away from reality... but the price of entry (and thus exclusivty of the marque) for a Porsche is not that high...

One can lease a boxster for $500 usd a month.
Yes, porsche makes the more prestigious/rare GT2/Turbo/etc. But those cars wear the same crest.

What is the minimum price of entry for Aston/Bentley/Ferrari?

Basically the same as the MOST expensive Porsche.

Also, considering Porsche is a "safe" brand to buy, good reliability/reviews/drivability... most people actually defer to Porsche instead of getting an Aston/Bentley/etc.

All of these factors lead to more Porsches on the road, more production, less exclusivity. Relatively speaking of course.

I think your perception is skewed by where you live, what car you drive, and this rennteam.com messageboard. Let me ask you, if you asked, 1,000,000 random Americans in different states, "Do you consider Porsche to be an exclusive car?" What percentage do you think would answer YES? My point is more than 50%.

Re: Latest Consumer Reports Reliability Ratings

A Ferrari is a exotic. Porsche's arent, except for the CGT.

And the F430 is probably more reliable with fewer dealer recall/fixer campaigns needed than a 997TT. Its a simpler drivetrain.

Both look ordinary compared to a Murcielago. But thats life!
