Any inside information on the next 911 GT3 RS?

Any inside information on the next 911 GT3 RS? How many hp?

I think this will be my next car ( or the all new 960)...

The only thing I heard recently from a P-source is that, contrary to the previously assumed roll-out schedule based on an unveiling sometime in the November timeframe, the GT3 RS may be presented at the IAA Frankfurt car show in September, along with the new Targa models.

Take this with a grain of salt, though, because the various motor press articles about the standard GT3 will not appear  before August/September, so the renewed hype around the GT3 would be disturbed by the accelerated appearance of its more extreme twin.

This project seems to have been halted...at least this was the word a couple of weeks ago.

New GT3 RS? Well, first cars should make it to customers around spring or summer 2014, at least over here in Germany. Rumored power is 495 hp (to keep a "friendly distance" to the special 997 GT3 RS 4.0). PDK is standard but it is my understanding that Porsche has a manual ready pretty fast if GT3 (without RS) sales don't meet expectations.

    Very sad news indeed!

Re: Any inside information on the next 911 GT3 RS?

Speculating that the next Lamborghini and Audi mid engine super sports cars will be developed by Porsche, I don't think that the 960 project has been completely abandoned. Right now Porsche seems to want to promote the 918 and a possible 960 could seriously threaten the success of the 918. At least this is what I think...

Again: I am not working for Porsche, so every rumor needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

    Logical and I hope true.

Porsche NEED the 960 in order to counter the trend towards more mainstream models and to have an up to date platform for GT racing.

I agree with this - I think I would prefer the 960 over the 918, even if they cost the same (and the 918 is going to cost a multiple more - maybe 5x as much?).  I can definitely see Porsche having trouble selling the 918 for 7 figures, if the 960 was available at the same time for a small fraction of the price (and without certain features of the 918 that some customers see as a negative, like hybrid, AWD, the extra weight, etc.).

Re: Any inside information on the next 911 GT3 RS?

Personally, I still think that Porsche should offer two versions of the 918: A Tech edition with hybrid and a Sport edition without the hybrid technology. They could use the Tech edition to calm down environmentalists and prove that even high performance sports cars can be "green" but at the same time, they would satisfy their hardcore customers with a raw experience, especially if the Sport version would weight 300 kg less than the Tech version. I would offer them both at the same price tag or even ask 50k EUR more for the Sport edition, so people actually can decide what they want: Innovation or raw performance.

On the other hand, Porsche still has some time to finish 918 development and it seems to go well. I still think that the 918 will have 918 hp (and not the current 887 hp) and I also thnk that Porsche will sacrifice some of the hybrid/electric car functions to improve performance.

In the end, the current hybrid 918 needs to do the Nordschleife under 7 minutes, 0-200 kph under 7.5 seconds and 0-300 kph under 20 seconds. If this happens, the 918 will be a success. Otherwise, the 918 could be in trouble. I know that the 918 is cheaper than the LaFerrari and the P1 and I know that the design is more classic (I would even call it more classy. the P1 and the LaFerrari are attention whores in my opinion angry) and this is why even a slightly worse performance vs. the LaFerrari/P1 could make the 918 a success. Porsche just needs to be careful how they market the car and how they convince customers that the 918 is a very special experience for them.

As someone who just ordered a 203k EUR 991 Turbo S, I cannot say I am impressed with Porsche marketing or how they try to "communicate" the performance and passion of this car. Actually, there is nothing...yet. Sad.

You don't seem to read all the threads related to this matter. Smiley

The Panamera Turbo S goes...the 991 Turbo S comes. I'm not a sedan type of guy, I love the 911, I had to realize it the hard way. Yes, the Panamera Turbo S has an amazing performance and it handles pretty well but it cannot replace a 911 Turbo S and even worse, it cannot replace a Cayenne for my family needs.

So I decided to stick with the Cayenne GTS I got last December, wonderful family car and daily driver btw. and I ordered a 991 Turbo S for first delivery from my dealer.

Yesterday, I took the Panamera Turbo S out for a drive again and while I really enjoyed the turbo boost (vs. the amazing exhaust/engine sound of my daily driver Cayenne GTS), again I realized that the decision to get the 991 Turbo S instead was the right one. The Panamera is a nice sedan for two people who don't have much luggage and who don't like a 911 but it cannot replace a 911 and even worse, it cannot satisfy the needs of a family with two kids.

That said, the 991 Turbo S will be my fun car (yes, another garage queen) but since I have the Cayenne GTS, the Panamera actually had the same role. At first, I wanted to replace the Panamera with a 991 GT3 but I have been assured by my sources that the new 991 Turbo S will be a lot of fun and that the steering response/feel and the sound have been improved. I also want as much power as possible for Autobahn driving and I don't want to have future E63 AMG station wagons breathing down my neck on the Autobahn if I choose a GT3. So the 991 Turbo S it is...for three years and then I decide if I go for the facelift or the GT2 RS (if it doesn't cost a fortune).

I plan to do some weekend trips to lake Garda (Italy) or to the Cote d'Azur (France) in the 991 Turbo S, together with my son (my wife and my daughter prefer to do their own stuff instead or they drive over in my wife's car or fly over) and maybe even to Sardinia (wife and daughter fly, me and my son drive...using the ferry from Genova), so the 991 Turbo S will be well used over the next three years. I am only 450 km away from lake Garda and 800 km away from Nice, so this isn't a big deal for me. Europe is so small... Smiley
