    January sales down by 8%

Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), importer and distributor of Porsche sports cars and Cayenne SUVs in the United States and Canada, today announced January sales of 2,984 in the United States compared to last year's record-setting January of 3,232, representing a decline of 8 percent.

After taking the wraps off its new 2008 Cayenne--which goes on sale March 3rd--last month at the Detroit Auto Show, Porsche recorded strong sales of 1,404 for its current Cayenne, an increase of 37 percent over the previous January with sales of 1,028.

"In preparation for the market launch in March of the new-generation Cayenne, we are obviously pleased with the strong rundown of the current model," said Peter Schwarzenbauer, PCNA President and CEO. " Clearly the excitement generated by the world debut of the new Cayenne last month helped boost showroom interest in the Cayenne overall."

Porsche's sports car sales were again led by the 911, which enjoyed a record-setting January with sales of 922 cars sold versus last January when sales were 810. Boxster/Cayman sales totaled 658 for the month, compared to January 2006 with sales of 1,383, a result that benefited from the highly anticipated premiere of the Cayman series.

In addition, dealers sold 456 Porsche Approved Certified Pre-Owned vehicles, compared to 436 for the same period last year.

Strange comment. I doubt the excitement is anything to do with the debut of the facelift. If I was on the market for a new car and it had just been released I would probably wait until it was on the market. UNLESS the facelift car was ugly OR I was being given a bargain on the current model.

Mr. Schwarzenbauer should have said " We're getting rid of the current butt ugly car like hot cakes, we're basically shifting them at net prices, the new version "Butt Ugly 2" is way uglier and is going to hit the stores soon with a price increase and a bit more power to make sure more people see yo ugly ass"

Re: January sales down by 8%

In January of 2006 were all the present 911 models available for sale like the TT, Targa etc? If not it just another way for Porsche to play with the numbers.

The Cayman Boxster sales look like they have fallen by almost 50% for january.

Re: January sales down by 8%

Well Nick based on Porsche they've had a successful start.

Hilarious! 52% decline is "irrelevent". Only an arrogant company like Porsche would make such a statement.

lol, just ugly for a porsche

As for sales in general, they need to advertise catchy 15 second commercials on something besides speed channel. Thats only for the track junkies.

Re: January sales down by 8%

It is a wonder they even sell Caymans at $5k more than a Boxster...

Re: January sales down by 8%

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the Cayman is the new 968. Gone after four or five years of production.

And the $10-15K factory to dealer trunk money had NOTHING to do with , huh ?!

Are they giving trunk money? We had a discussion a couple of months back where WW said there will never be trunk money on a P Car. That is the reason Mr. Schwarjsljfl has a job today...the last CEO gave money to Porsche Club members for a Boxster S and got canned. I heard that WW actually slapped him on the side of the head when he was called back to Germany. Just what I heard from inside sources. I know that WW has some tactics that would never be allowed in the US market. Then again we have golden parachutes for CEO's when they want to bail out of a company.
