Attended UK Launch of 997 today.... some feedback

    Hi All,

The car is truly a delight in the flesh... three cars on show at Lancaster Cambridge (C2, C2S, C2S Tip) - Silver and Seal Grey. None had the Sport Chrono pack, which was surprising.

Have definitely decided the colour combo for mine to be Seal Grey and Blue interior... the blue doesn't look as light as the Metropol blue... Am also ditching the multi function steering option and going for the BOSE sound system - it sounded superb.

Test drive next week, hopefully.... the interior materials felt of high quality... also amazed with the headroom in the front - not too bad in the rear too. Disappointed with the electric seats - on one of the cars, the switch seemed to get stuck in the position chosen - i.e., once adjusted, the switch did not return to default position - could be just a glitch on that car.

Clutch felt a lot lighter than I thought it would be... was also impressed with reasonably short throw on standard 6 speed box, although I am ordering the Sport Shift Option.

The dealer launch was a very classy affair - members from Porsche Club GB had also brought along their cars - on display in the workshop were all the 911 generation...

Also available was the Full UK Price List booklet - all 65 pages of it.

    Roll on March 2005...

    Regards
    Prashan

Excellent - I'm going to AFN Chiswick tonight. How many people were there? Glad to hear your comments about the blue interior - I have gone for that with Slate Grey exterior, but am still having doubts about the blue...

Re: Attended UK Launch of 997 today.... some feedback

Cool ,i am going Lancasters Colchester tomorrow for launch party, hoping to be impressed with the 997s,as have to spec my december build soon

Re: Attended UK Launch of 997 today.... some feedback

At least a 100 people - wasn't too packed as the showroom was quite large - very good sushi and champagne - they even had a bar in the workshop....

Blue interior looks very good - had to look hard to make sure it wasn't a grey....make sure you collect the new price list booklet....

I was at tonight's 997 launch in Edinburgh. My initial impression seeing the 997 properly in the metal was wow. The oval lights and seperate light clusters somehow looks right as opposed to photographs which looked a little bit awkward.

The interior is a vast improvement over 996 interior. Would have been nice to see other colours other than Seal Grey and Arctic.

Can't wait to test both the Carrera and Carrera S next week to decide whether it is better than going for a 996 Turbo

The other highlights included chatting up all the female catering staff

the other was seeing an Enzo parked outside OPC so it would have be rude not to go out for a little look

Re: Attended UK Launch of 997 today.... some feedback

I also went last night in Chiswick. Seems to be just Seal Grey and Arctic Silver everywhere doesn't it! Agree with comments about the cars - looked fantastic. I have arranged a test drive for Sunday and cannot wait.

Agree with comments above about the Ocean Blue interior - it looks fantastic and I've no concerns about speccing it with the Slate Grey exterior.

    5.5 months and counting....

Re: Attended UK Launch of 997 today.... some feedback

Went to Porsche Centre East London's bash last night - agree with all said above. They had four cars, three in Seal Grey and one Arctic Silver Carrera S. Ocean Blue interior is barely distinguishable as blue at all, but that may be the lighting. Sport Chrono on dash not too intrusive, which is good. Bose sounds wicked.

They also had the very first UK Spec RHD 911 on display (classic vehicle, from somewhere back in the 1960's) for comparison purposes - light clusters in front bumper are very similar to 997.

One last point for all those Sport Steering wheel moaners - wait until you've held it in your hands. It feels great!

hey gary i was there too! did u see the 911s screaming up and down the road outside? cant wait til march!!

Re: Attended UK Launch of 997 today.... some feedback

i've just been up to see the new cars at Porsche in Hatfield. Have switched my midnight blue/blue for artic silver/blue as per the launch cars. Light cars definitely do the car more justice. Strangest thing about the launch cars was that the 3.6s didn't have full leather, plastic dash and doors - did any other dealers have the same issue? My salesperson said they were really confused as these were german spec cars although rhd. All 997 of the UK will have full leather. Certainly means there will be a few bargains when they get to be sold off. Also the standard cars were more highly spec'd than the "S" cars. no sport chrono on the "S" which is disappointing as that's what i've ordered.

Overall tho extremely please with my decision. The most noticeable difference was the quality of the interior, big step up from my previous 996s.

Re: Attended UK Launch of 997 today.... some feedback

Yeah - there was one red 997 turbo in particular which looked awesome. He floored it coming out of the car park heading down stratford high street, you should have seen that baby go!!

Did some of those Seal Grey models have a Cocoa interior? I can't remember (too much Champagne?), and I'm thinking about it for my 997S. I've got black spec'ed right now, and am concerned it might be a bit ordinary.

You must have had lots of champagne since a red 997 turbo will not be available for at least a year and only black mules have been seen so far.

Yes - Chiswick had the same. Both 3.6's had plastic dash and doors, S's, full leather. This worried me somewhat as I've got an S coming next month and I was panicking that full leather wasn't standard afterall. I think everyone got the same specced cars, with the 3.6's more highly optioned.

Ooops! - typo. Clearly I've got 997 on the brain. Must be wishful thinking (or my fat fingers on this laptop keyboard!).
