Need clip: Fifth Gear; F1 versus MC versus Boat

Just saw the episode of Fifth Gear where Tiff Needell conducts a race between a powerboat a motoGP bike and a Bar Honda F1 with Jenson Button behind the wheel.
The MC and F1 make 0-160 close to eachother and then the F1 REALLY takes off. Makes it look as if the MC is standing still. The boat is out of the equasion pretty early on.

Anyone have the clip or a link where to download it?

Re: Need clip: Fifth Gear; F1 versus MC versus Boat

It wasn't a MotoGp bike, its was a work's Superbike. The MotoGP is quite a bit more powerfull and equates to the Formula One cars in the bike world, the Sportbike may equate to say a GTS-class racecar.

Not that it would make much difference in the lauch since the problem in the bike is not power or traction, but the tendency to wheelie. However once it has launched the MotoGP would accelerate faster than the Superbike, and would keep up better with the F1 at speed, but the F1 would still win IMO.
A different matter would be a roll on race, then the MotoGP would win until you get up to very high speeds (close to the top limit) were the F1 would gain again. MotoGp bikes can reach a higher speed or equal to a F1 car at the end of the long starights of the championship tracks, while coming out of the leading bend at much lower speed (the bike has much less cornering speed than a F1), so they gain it all in acceleration in the straight and they pretty much match up to the F1 in speed at the end of the straight.

You can download it form eMule or Bit Torrent, the episode is "Fifth Gear - 2004.10.11".

For those who do not want to wait for torrents they can just use this link Click me

p.s that's only the race, not the whole show.

OK, I stand corrected, but then again I don't know the first thing about bikes..and am not that interested
All I can say is this: Unless you take a stripped-down 325 BHP tubo-modded Hayabusa there is no bike in hell that stands a chance against an F1 car.
Notice what happens when the downforce increases and the tires get traction. The F1 Honda doesn't just pull away from the bike. It totally obliterates it.
And thats just on the straight. I wonder what would happen on a full lap on a circuit?

Did u read the rumors that Valentino Rossi (the Moto GP superbike 500cc something or other multi-champion) has had several tests with the Ferrari F1 team? Some say that he may sign up a year from now instead of Schumi.
If he does so I guess Feminando Gayonso wont be the only 70-pound girlieman in F1 any longer
Seriously, he weighs 59 kg! LOOOOL! Guess they will have to put bricks in his driving suit so he doesnt fly away on the straights!

    Anyways.
    Thanks for the links!

Re: Need clip: Fifth Gear; F1 versus MC versus Boat

Not even a 325HP Turbo-Busa would do it, a MotoGP bike is faster. Once at very high speed (which comes very quickly in these vehicles), the F1 is simply faster than anything.

On a full lap track there is no comparison between F1 and MotoGP, the F1 are faster in all tracks, mainly thanks to their downforce aerodinamics which allow them significantly higher curve speeds. A bike has no downforce whatsoever.

Rossi may weight 59kg but he ain't tiny and he is in better shape than any F1 driver in order to ride a MOtoGP bike lap after lap. Have you seen what they have to do?
Not to mention that the size of the MotoGP rider's genitalia are several times bigger that the F1 driver's, from riding 2-wheeled 250HP+/110Kg monsters all-out around the tracks without any vehicle protenction... intead of automatic 4-wheels "cars"... if you place any of the F1 drivers in the back on a MotoGP bike with Rossi at the handle bars, I guarantee you it won't take more than two corners before the F1 driver's body sphicnters loosen up

I don't think he will make it to F1 but who knows, Rossi is an icon, the best motorsport driver/rider in the world, and would mean incredible publicity and coverage for F1, so Ferrari may do it just for the image and publicity. Its easy to be within one second of Schumacher per lap, but its closing that last second gap thats dificult. He is definately talented, more than any other person in motorsport today (along with Daniel Pedrosa), but he still needs to prove he can be podium-competitive in F1... maybe he can take Kimi's seat in McLaren?

I hear what u are saying and most of it makes sense.
However, I dont believe the moto-riders have bigger balls than the F1-pilots.
Comparing relative safety (the moto-riders ARE their own airbags) and risk of sliding/wobbling/falling against the F1-driver's risk of spinning/sliding I would conclude that the moto-riders have a different look at their own mortality than the F1-pilot does.
I would call it lame, but on the other hand, these skilled moto-guys have probably made up their minds and decided that the fun they have is worth running the relatively high risk of losing their lives for.
    To each their own.

Re: Need clip: Fifth Gear; F1 versus MC versus Boat

Check the hayabusa turbo's acceleration here:
    http://rds.yahoo.com/S=96781308/K=hayabu...os/hayabusa.wmv

hard to measure what the acc-time is, but my stopwatch shows appr. 70-200 mph (the only time he gives full throttle) in appr. 14 secs.
Some of that is on the rear wheel, so if he hadn't shown off God knows what the time would be.
I dunno the F1's accel, but this Haya seems pretty fast.

Re: Need clip: Fifth Gear; F1 versus MC versus Boat

Yes, they are crazy one of the reasons the can also accelerate so fast is becuase those Busa's usually have had their swingarms modded and elongated in order decrease the tendency to wheelie since there is only so much acceleration you can achieve without flipping it, and with an fair excess over 300HP, the front end will never come down all the way to 300km/h This elongated swingarms hinder handling and agility but thats not the intent of these Turboed-Busa's which are meant for acceleration.

OMR, that guy must have so much neck muscles.. incredible
