    Comments on 991 s cab

1973s?    No torque, gutless below 6k, sounds like an eggbeater, shocking lack of torque compared to say, a scud. Feels light and small, I don't get any sense the car is bigger.  Longer wheelbase feels very short over speed bumps, ouch.

unlike 997s , using sport plus all the time it's softer doesn't knock your teeth out on Malibu mountain roads.  Normal is too soft, and sport too slow? (maybe wasnt revving as fully). Wind the titz off just like 1973!

Does feel quick in sport plus. Depressing otherwise. Glad I got the performance op.s

New roof is great, wind blocker very covenient, the manual one on my turbo s cab was a commitment for long runs and in the way

Burmeister excelent. Front storage smaller again. Interior storage poor.

Sun liked the turbo s better but hell get used to it:)

Thank you for posting your experience!

The Malibu roads... .that's the right turf for such a car! :)

Re: Comments on 991 s cab

The more I drive it the more I like it.  It really handles on our bumpy twisties  ,in sport plus always shift at redline.

It almost feels like its cornering electronically.... Must be that handling package I bought

Has excellent balance handling, brakes power, but no torque.

Got in my wife's Xkr to move it today forgot what torque was, the 991s sure doesn't have any.

Re: Comments on 991 s cab

Coming from a Turbo S the Cab will always feel slow, do you have PSE ?

Please, please, please post some pics of you new beautiful toy, the new  roof has such wonderful design than Porsche manage to do something hitorical, the Cab looks better closed than open Smiley

Re: Comments on 991 s cab

Noise not something I pay extra for, but they sure charged me a lot for not ordering!:)

pdcc and sport chrono per Carlos, and burmeister and vented seats ( great in S CA). Looks titz from the back w top up and titz all around top down, huge aesthetic improvement, as well as performance

Ill check with Sun and see if he's ready for photos and well post some ASAP

From all that I´ve been hearing about PSE on 991, it must be wonderful. One of our members, Reginos,  has a 992.S with PSE and after a test drive said 991 without PSE sounded better than his car Smileyso I can imagine how good PSE must sound on a 991Cab Smiley

Re: Comments on 991 s cab

Looking foward to those pics! if Sun permits that is indecision wink

IMO the 991 Cab's looks is a huge improvement over the previous versions because they were finally able to get rid of the "hump" which was the problem I saw on the 911 cabs... and with PSE that must sound like amazing with the top down and J.Seven points out  eek.gif

Re: Comments on 991 s cab

the car is a super advance on 997 and so fast with rev.s im wonderinging if the weight of the turbo s will detract more from the package thn the power increase gives.  at least it wont have a wing on the back

Re: Comments on 991 s cab

The gearing is quite high as usual, compared to scud or strad gearing.  On my mountain it means mostly 1st and 2nd. Bot as tall as I remember my 997 gt3s,

the long run Jackson this summer the higher gears should pay off.  You never wanna run fast for long in a scud, the revs to do 130 plus would beat your head in.

Re: Comments on 991 s cab

Interesting Watts...if you need 6K revs to get some torque, you should trade this lump.

The peak torque is much lower than 6K for the 3.8 L ...so you may have been given the new 4 cylinder turbo or supercharged version we keep hearing about!

But, you may have gotten the 3.4L by mistake, as that has the peak torque up higher. Yes that must be it...the 3.6L can't handle the large increase in mass  for the new Cab , with magnesium panels...about 180 lbs I have heard. You could have ordered a full soft top, that has 2 tabs to cover just part of the seating area, like the Boxter R.

You should really go for the Jag Cab, as that is all torque., with the V-10 engine new this year.

Final thoughts...Your later memos indicate you are becoming more familiar with the Cab, so your miles covered must be still quite low. Could you explain how or why you are reaching 6K revs, when the rev limit required in the Driver's Manual [that means warranty, and your peak revs are recorded for all time in the ECU ready for download] is 4200 revs with modest throttle until 2000 miles? We have heard mildly different rev-increases are sometimes better for run-in...otherwise you can apparently go from 4200 revs max  to 7800 rev max instead , now with full throttle, as soon as you reach 2000 miles, and that cannot be good for the engine. Strange...

Back to 6K revs...using hi revs so early could have lost you a cylinder or two, or valves, which would explain the 'lack of torque'. Torque is only demonstrated at lower revs in a new 911-991, closer to 5K, and that only with higher throttle once broken-in after 2000 miles. High torque demands kills brand new engines, fast.

You may be in trouble Mr Watts, seems like you should not have a sweet Porsche...move to a grunty and less [or is it more] reliable Jag or Aston. V-8s is what you need. hey...why not a Camaro or 'Stang...loads of torque, expecially above 6K revs, no that would be 3500revs, the new metric system is confusing.

Enough fun...although heard those cab roofs are pealing the fabric off the magnesium panels at 100 mph or so...and, at the high California temps magnesium can  spontaneously  go afire?

    Take Care...enjoy

Re: Comments on 991 s cab

Beautiful 991 , congratulations! Your dog looks very committed and serious at the wheel. Should let him have a spinindecision

It is the first time I see a 991 without the Porsche lettering on the rear and with  just the model designation. In my opinion and compared to the 997 the lettering appears to be a bit too small and not centered (vertically speaking). Not that it matters too much.
