    997 vs 987

    Comparison

    Re: 997 vs 987

987 Boxster's front end recalls elements of the Carrera GT and current GT2/Turbo - a good thing.

    Re: 997 vs 987

As much as I love the 997, and would buy one at an instant if I had the cash, I think the 987 is prettier. The front fogs look at lot better integrated into the grill.

    Re: 997 vs 987

I agree with you, the integration of the fog lights is much better on the Boxster, and it also looks more aggressive because the front spoilet reminds that of the 996 Turbo with it two big holes on either side of the smaller central one.
But hey, what can you do? The 911 is the 911!

    Re: 997 vs 987

    Agreed...
Many on this board wrote how seeing the 997 in person would be different from the pictures viewed online... well they were wrong. It is very underwhelming. Especially when the car (996) hasn't been truly updated in 7 years. I hope I'm wrong when the sales numbers come out but I think Porsche really made a dud.

I just can't see many people exiting their 996 to get into this 996 1/2.

    Re: 997 vs 987

They share the same mirrors and rims. What else do they have in common?

I suspect front wings, doors, bonnet (hood if you are American), exterior and interior door handles, interior door trim, (different grab handles / arm rests), front and rear centre consoles, lower half of dashboard, instruments (less the additional ones on 997), steering wheel, switches, seats plus all the bits you can't see - but I suppose there is nothing wrong with that.

Each to his own, I suppose. I was lucky enough to see 5 997s yesterday at the Dubai autodrome. Even next to my 996tt, they looked awesome and sounded....well, just exquisite.

    i completely agree!!

hmm, yes. but when i remembered it right 996 owners suffered because they could be mistaken for 986 owners (a problem which PAG solved nicely with the 996 facelift IMO).
now their successors look nearly the same again from front view but in detail the 987 is even more bautiful AND more aggressive at the same time.

I wonder if the 19" rims are really the same. The 986 Boxster S had 8.5" rims in the rear (I think). The 997S' new 19" rims are 11" at the back and wear 295's. I really doubt that the new 987 S with 265's share the same 11" width as the 997S. It's more likely 9.5".

hahaha...so thats where the Porsche designers got the idea from...

Problem with front end and huge apertures

is that it makes the car look like radiators were an afterthought. Which they basically are for 911 and Boxsters.

A few years ago the holes for the radiators started look too big for the turbos and now they have done it to the Boxster just to incorporate the parking lights.

From a design standpoint It looks like there's not enough edge contour and volume left because the holes remove so much "curve" on the front end. Kinda like, "We need more air, so just cut a bigger hole and learn to live with what it looks like"

I'm surprised Porsche went further down this path by "needlessly" making the holes bigger for the new Boxster light placement.
