    Gregg, straight from 997 Non-Turbo Manual (I don't have the Turbo manual with me at the moment. Does it say more or less the same thing?):

    Starting Engine:

    1. When starting the engine, be ready to drive immediately.
    Drive vehicle at moderate speeds and avoid engine speeds above 4200 rpm during first 5 minutes.
    2. Do not let the engine idle to warm up.

    Stopping Engine:

    1. Do not stop engine immediately after hard or extended driving.
    2. Keep engine running at increased idle for about 2 minutes to prevent excessive heat build-up before turning off engine.



    I dont have my Turbo Manual w/ me but from what I remember the answer is yes, that's what the Turbo manual says as well. Those are the same points it covers & it is very similiar if not exactly the same.

    It probably isnt related but I wondered if the fact that my Turbo hasnt needed a drop of oil vs. my 997 S needing lots of oil in the beginning had anything to do w/ letting my 997 S idle to get warm vs. driving off after starting w/ my Turbo.

    Actually it mentions that in the manual as well; that you should let it idle a bit after a drive. It's interesting though regarding their recommendation to drive right off.     Anyway, it's actually a very nice convenience, I mean who wants to sit there waiting for temps to come up before driving off.



    That's recommended for all the cars here. Something to do with the engine not getting to working temperature just sitting there and thus wearing out quickly.




    So you're saying w/ the F430 you should also drive off instead of letting idle first? I know the vast majority of Ferrari guys that I've driven w/ do the opposite. Obviously we know what the official recommendation is from Porsche but I couldnt find anything in my F430 manual about the same. I was just wondering if Porsche's recommendation had anything to do w/ dry-sump engines & hence the difference vs. the old theory of letting the car warm up a bit before driving off.

    Just drive off. Letting the car run idle does more harm than good.
