991 Speedster - next limited will not have an roof

Apparently there is a 991 Speedster on its way. I was today for lunch with a friend working in Weissach and he made very definite comments. He said that there will be a convertible with the 991R engine coming. And the car might have a bit lower appearance.... so make your own math.

Some while ago there have been some photoshop in the web... lets hope the car is coming to reality and let's even more hope that there is a slight chance ordering one Smiley

I tend to believe that Porsche would include them in the option list Smiley

Re: 991 Speedster - next limited will not have an roof

This seems like a way to cash in on the unfilled 911R orders without technically breaching the 991 unit production limit...

This is the closest SciFrog may get to a convertible GT3 (still no PDK nor back seats) - this is the Spyder version and the R is the GT4 version of the 991...

I thought perhaps this one would come with PDK, but your analogy to the GT4/Spyder is logically correct.

This car may or may not get the green light.

This car may or may not have a roof, if at all.

This car may or may not be the unicorn.

This car may nor may not be produced in enough numbers to go around, getting an R seems very easy when compared.

Re: 991 Speedster - next limited will not have an roof

@Whoopsy - that is what I fear - I thing too - an R is easy compared to this car. On the other hand - seeing current quotes for the GT3RS make me think that I might have to jump on one of those. The premium is not that stiff anymore.

Re: 991 Speedster - next limited will not have an roof

Why are people so hot for Porsche special editions lately? The speedster is one of the dumbest special editions ever. The car is literally just a tonneau cover and a windscreen. Like, why would anyone want this car?

With a distinctive double bubble tonneau cover and a windscreen that’s 77mm shallower, the Speedster apes the looks of its ancestor. Mechanically, everything underneath is as per the old GTS, which means 408bhp from a 3.8-litre flat-six, and a 0-62mph time of 4.2 seconds.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-911-Speedster-/322032109503?forcerrptr=true&hash=item4afa9c07bf:g:B4YAAOSwzhVWqlUd&item=...

$280K? Being that the car itself is worth about $60K, that's one expensive tonneau cover.

Re: 991 Speedster - next limited will not have an roof

Making special editions is a way to keep a product cycle going. Oldest trick in the book.

People wants what they cannot have, make something special and limited and customers will flock in to buy them.

Look at Bugatti with the Veyrons, Lambo doing that with the Gallardo, Ferrari is also an expert, hell even McLaren has been doing that after the 12C, modifying it and out comes the P1. The 675 is another. I believe they are doing a 680 or something too.

Well, might be time to buy this, no? Seinfeld just sold one for $440K at auction. Ridiculous. I think he's getting out on top though.

Re: 991 Speedster - next limited will not have an roof

    I wouldn't pay even $60k for one...

Re: 991 Speedster - next limited will not have an roof

It's kind of hilarious that Seinfeld could literally get a free $160K right now.

Sell blue speedster at auction for $440K, buy lower mileage blue speedster on eBay for $280K.

Anyone out there wanna go 50/50 on a speculative buy/sell ;)

Well, the $280k car will be less valuable than Seinfeld's in many people's eyes simply because it hasn't been pre-owned by Seinfeld. I don't know whether the fact that a car has been pre-owned by no-one would have the same cachet.  Smiley

If the Speedster comes, it will have the same tech the 911R has but with a few differences in the chassis setup. Also, this car will be "substantially over 200k" and this is for sure (if it comes). Also it seems that production will be even more limited than 911R production, only 500 cars were discussed.

    No PDK!

I haven't heard the Speedster rumor again for a long time though, it just appeared again after the 911R introduction.

One of the major reasons, besides the financial stuff, why I haven't already ordered the 911R is the lack of PDK. I have the Shelby and I'm not sure I want to have another car with manual.

Re: 991 Speedster - next limited will not have an roof

If you think it's going to appreciate RC, then it's kind of stupid not to. You can wait for the normal car you really want (and lose a bunch of money as usual) or just buy a 911R and make $50-100K.

    You don't understand:

    1. This car would be on my name, I cannot really flip it (contract, 6 months)

    2. I would want to keep it, I don't make money with cars

    3. Driving it could be a liability (this is actually my biggest worry now...) because the car could be worth a lot in a couple of years (and probably even the moment I drive it out of the dealership)

I really wanted the car when it showed up but the more I think about it, the more I think that it may not what I am looking for, especially since it has no PDK. My wife also doesn't like the idea because it is no cabriolet and the Speedster would be completely out of my price range (not even sure I could get one since I do not know how many will be produced).

Overall, this is not about making some easy bucks but about if I want to keep this car and want to enjoy it.

Btw: My dealer has finally contacted me about the lease, will know more today or tomorrow.
