Storing station numbers or call letters in PCM

I haven't been able to get station numbers or call letters to store properly. Whenever you store a station, it stores seemingly unrelated letters and hypens. Has anyone found a solution to this problem. This is the kind of problem that should be found before its released in a production car. Very annoying. Still love the car though!

Re: Storing station numbers or call letters in PCM

I'm having the same exact problem. It's driving me nuts. I'm assuming the RBMS-or-whatever-it's-called data is screwed up for certain stations, but it looks pretty ridiculous in the PCM.

Re: Storing station numbers or call letters in PCM

I just looked in my manual and found the answer. Page 30 of my 2005 PCM manual has the following note in section "3.1.2 Storing stations"

"If the stored station is an RBDS station, the abbreviated station name appears in the memory presets in the FM main menu. With stations without RBDS, the station frequency is displayed instead of the name."

"Stations which transmit other information instead of the station name (e.g. weather, football result), are abbreviated to L-1, L-2, L-3, etc."

The manual needs to have the following note added:

"The PCM offers no way for you to individually select whether or not to display the RBDS information or the station's frequency. You are [beep] out of luck and will have to guess what "L-A" and "L-2" are when looking at the station list or your presets."

Completely retarded, but I've come to expect no better from Harmon/Becker after my experience with the CDR-24.

Re: Storing station numbers or call letters in PCM

Wow, I forgot I had posted this so long ago! Yep, there's no solution, because its a software problem. I can tell you that my BMW has the same problem and its really frustrating. At least with the BMW, there is a work-around. I haven't checked this out, but I bet Japanese cars don't have this issue. Porsche should release an update that disables the RDMS (?) function and at least allows us to store the station number - even if we can't store the station's call letters.

Other than that, I love the car. I like it more than the 911 and there's really nothing else I want to drive. That's the good news!

Re: Storing station numbers or call letters in PCM

Yeah, I'm happy with the way these cars drive, but the stereos are pure and utter garbage. It's like paying $3000 for a bottom-of-the-barrel computer at Walmart.

Re: Storing station numbers or call letters in PCM

With the top down, I think its less of an issue. I was hoping they would release a software update for the PCM that included the fix for the problem. Haven't seen anything yet.

Re: Storing station numbers or call letters in PCM

Oh I'm not talking about their sound quality, I'm just referring to all the bugs in the software. "Holy smokes!!"
