    after the 997, 998, 999 and then?

what comes after the 997, 998 and 999 model line? maybe back to just "911"? what do you think?

Re: after the 997, 998, 999 and then?

Who says the next model is called 998?

    Anyway, what is the point...

Re: after the 997, 998, 999 and then?

I just read the "official" answer to this question in a recent Q&A in either Excellence or Panorama.

The darndest thing: I forgot what they said! Sorry.

Something about there's lots of time to go before they run out of consecutive numbers... .

Re: after the 997, 998, 999 and then?

They're just internal numbers at the end of the day. Porsche won't care. They only care about numbers/codes used in official marketing

Re: after the 997, 998, 999 and then?

You have to know that Porsche factory uses codes for each thing they make. E.G Typ 914 typ 964 etc. I think that for marketing purposes they might go on with 998 if they like the number... Remember that after 964 came the 993....

and after that the 996. The 997 is the only recent one to continue the type number in a row..

I suspect by then (about 2025) it will be a flat 8, and the numbering scheme will be re-calibrated.

Re: after the 997, 998, 999 and then?

Or that the trademark from (was it?) Peugeot will have expired and they may finaly get the 901 that they wanted.....

Re: after the 997, 998, 999 and then?

Perhaps they will open back up the numbers that never got used way back,--between 000 and 355. Recall, they didn't want to introduce the 356 as model 0001 or people would think they had no experience with designing and building cars.

Re: after the 997, 998, 999 and then?

Porsche was originally an engineering firm and each engineering task has been assigned a sequential project number. Of course most have been cars for some time now. Some were not enough of a new project to justify a new sequential number, i.e. 356B, 356C, 356 SC, etc. as compared to 911, 912, 959,etc. With the base flat 6 911, introduced in 1964 and 4 cylinder 912, the models became identities to the public that were improved each year, but kept the same design numbers for some time. Then there was the first street turbo...930. It would be interesting to see what the engineering projects were that have been assigned the numbers that we are not privy to. Best just enjoy the cars.
