21'' Wheels - looking good or not?

This would actually be one of the reasons, NOT to go for the 21'' wheels. Imagine how the Cayenne S or even the Cayenne V6 look alike with even smaller brake discs.

Re: 21'' Wheels - looking good or not?

They look "okay" - nothing impressive IMO. Thanks for the pic RC!

Re: 21'' Wheels - looking good or not?

I'd wouldnt option out for any of the porsche's wheels... I would save myself the $4,600 and later purchase a set of Rinspeed 22" wheels. For that more aggressive look.
    thanks for the pics RC.

Re: 21'' Wheels - looking good or not?

also wider fenders with 21" wheels

Re: 21'' Wheels - looking good or not?

Nice shape, to me the diff between 20 and 21 doesn't look that much. I would buy them based on the design and the cost of new tires! Can imagine that tehy would become a lot more expensive with 21 compared to 20..

Re: 21'' Wheels - looking good or not?

I don't mind being a contrarian. I simply don't understand the concept of wheels that size on an SUV. I like my powerkit brakes (which I can't fully appreciate, the way RC can on the Autobahn), but I would have loved to have the option of standard turbo brakes and 18" wheels. I like the 20" Sport Techno design, but that would be as far as I could ever go - and I'd have to do a lot of wheel swapping. Other than for the track, anything bigger on the Cayenne, for me, needs other accessories - gold plating, a set of spinners, maybe a Denali badge, and don't forget to fill up the cargo area with subwoofers

RC has already expressed his displeasure with the PK brakes requiring 19" wheels. Makes for much worse handling in the snow.

I think the powerkit will fix this problem, RC .

Actually, I think RC's previous posts have illustrated his great affinity for his PK brakes for his "less than casual" jaunts on the Autobahn, relative to his "pre-PowerKit" standard Turbo brakes, although he has shared eveyone's problems with the 19" snow tire limitation. For my purposes, the ice/snow/off-road/pothole limitations and my limited track time (not to mention zero Autobahn time) make the 19" requirement a real PITA. But I'll try not to digress into my standard rants about a fine SUV like the Cayenne being reduced to a RFFJUSW (Really Friggin' Fast Jacked Up Station Wagon) and simply rant about it being turned into a Really Friggin' Fast Pimpmobile with oversize wheels - or at least it's fast until you hurl that 5300 beast into a moderate size pothole on those low-profile tires, and then it's really, really slow on that warped wheel and blown tire.

But, as I've said before, personal taste is personal, and I don't have to understand it.

Re: 21'' Wheels - looking good or not?

The irony is , big wheels whether 24" on an SUV or 22" on a sedan make the cars look like much smaller , like 1) a station wagon in the case of an SUV or 2) a mid sized car in the case of a flagship.

    I agree. I have 18" tires on my S for 2 reasons:
    1) I don't like spending big money on wheels in general. For that money I can buy a lot of other options.
    2) I don't want to worry about hitting curbs and potholes. Driving a SUV that's not able to handle the terrain is a self-defeating proposition.

And if you drive in a lot of snow like I do, potholes are "invisible" and the frozen roads create scores of them every season .

Re: 21'' Wheels - looking good or not?

I think the decision to put the 21 inchers on must be more of a marketing driven decision as it seems that many folks prefer the look.
From a performance perspective the 21s will most like translate to a harsher ride and will not necessarily give better road holding than 19s. Certainly if you live anywhere with potholes, it would be a bad move.

Re: 21'' Wheels - looking good or not?

I like these rims, and will order them on my car...

Re: 21'' Wheels - looking good or not?

    Absolutely priceless.
    Thanks for the laugh!

Re: 21'' Wheels - looking good or not?

Just to make a U-turn, it will take him like an hour and a half.

Re: 21'' Wheels - looking good or not?

I just order my MY08 CTT but I got the 20" Sport techno wheels as they will be my winter wheels... I plan on ordering 22/23" Rinspeed's for the rest of the year.

Re: 21'' Wheels - looking good or not?

i think this new rim will look awesome in the real. yes, it night not be too off road capable, but who takes these beauties out in the mud anyways! some do, but most don't and for a city cruise this looks very sleek

Re: 21'' Wheels - looking good or not?

Saw these yesterday on the Launch CTT and these wheels looked fantastic.

Re: 21'' Wheels - looking good or not?

No questions about it, the 21 inchers look fantastic. However, it's sort of like women wearing high heels. They look hot, but make no sense at all.

Re: 21'' Wheels - looking good or not?

Women with high heel shoes it's very hot and nice .... however it depends how high ... too high it's definitely tacky...

The same goes for rims ...

Re: 21'' Wheels - looking good or not?

its all a matter of taste...
