    -20mm & LSD in the U.S.

I was talking to to the local dealer today on the phone, one of the, I'd say, knowledgable sales guys mentioned that Porsche is working on -20mm & LSD option to bring it to the U.S. by next year.
He said that due to extensive work with DOT the availability of -20mm option should take about 8 to 9 months.

    Any validity to this? anyone?

    Re: -20mm & LSD in the U.S.

Crap. Another reason to postpone my order.

    Re: -20mm & LSD in the U.S.

Think Im going to cancel my order and wait for the Turbo. Thats my reason, LoL.

Makes sense - DOT has requirements for the height of

headlights - lowering the car by 20mm would definitely affect this. Wonder how they'll get clearance.

Re: Makes sense - DOT has requirements for the height of

If that is the reason, it's silly. It seems to me headlights should be lowered, not raised. It's a nuisance to drive against, or in front, of tall SUVs w/ beams perched up high.

    Makes a lot of sense.
They will probably offer the exact same package as in Europe but it just won't lower the full -20mm for DOT reasons but you will still get the stiffer/sportier suspension with rear LSD
But I bet they are trying to get the full -20mm homologated since they know how important/popular the "lowered car look" is over the pond.

    Re: -20mm & LSD in the U.S.

How about the GT3 and GT2 aren't they already lowered and their lights are any different from a regular 911.

    Good point.

Not sure how Porsche got the GT3 to clear DOT but then have a problem with the -20mm sport suspension. ??

    Re: Good point.

Maybe the GT3/GT3 got away with it due to the very low number imported.

    Re: Good point.

We are able to order the -20mm sports suspension with LSD in Europe from the outset. My 997S UK car has it for delivery next month!

    Re: Good point.

You guys in Europe are so damn lucky!

You wouldn't say that if you knew the pricetags on some european countries for the same Porsche compared to US
Lets just say... the germans are so dammn lucky

You wouldn't say that if you'd know taxation around here...

Let's just agree that anyone who can afford the Porsche of his choosing and not worry too much about the taxes, insurance, depreciation, modification costs and speeding tickets associated with that purchase in his home country is so damn lucky

    Re: Good point.

    Okay...

To be precise I was rather referring to income taxes than taxes on the car, which shouldn't differ too much to U.S. ones.

Anyways, there are much worse places to drive and own a Porsche than Germany, I have to say...

Actually in the US it could vary alot. We do not have a national VAT but we do have state sales taxes here. Each car would be subjective to a sales tax when bought. This can vary from 0% to about 8.75% depending which state and which county you live in.

And then there are the income taxes which do vary alot also. The US income taxes vary depending on income and deductions with the highest rate at 38% and the lowest at 0%. Then there are the state income taxes which range from 0% to about 9%. And then some cities have income taxes also. So, the conclusion: depending where you live in the US, you maybe taxed alot or very little.

    Re: Good point.

I suppose there are other people that can give much more precise information about that topic than me, but taxation on goods (incl. cars) is 16 % in Germany, nothing compared to Denmark for example where it is so much higher!

It might happen that you have about 50% of taxation, health insurance etc. on your wage around here...

    Re: Good point.

Why is there such a difference in prices between Porsches in European countries. Are there tariffs among the countries of the EU, or is there a sales tax applied that is different among the countries?

For several EC countries, Porsche uses the same base price. Of course there are different VAT figures for each country.
Why there is a difference? I don't know. Maybe it has to do with the national sales organization or whatever, I don't have a clue. I know only one thing: when one USD was worth around 80 Euro Cents a few years ago, we in Germany were very upset how cheap Americans get Porsche cars. Now it is the other way around, this is how business works.

    Re: Good point.

Sounds like the VAT in Europe is essentially a sales tax here in the US.
