    buying a 2005 997 S

Hi, I joined the forum recently, because I love porsches and am considering buying a 2005 997S with very few miles on it (only 1,700 miles).

I drove the car a few weeks ago and would appreciate pointers on what to inspect on the car before taking the plunge. Much appreciated,

    Lorenzo welcome to the board
just ask to do a pre purchase inspection at another dealer or an experienced porsche shop
not sure of any specific issues to look for

    Re: buying a 2005 997 S

With so low-miles, the primary concern would be prior collision damage. Anyone with a wisp of auto body knowledge can sniff that out, if it exists. Otherwise, there's little else you'll be able to discern beyond the fact that it should drive as-new (test drive a new one for perspective), and the clutch up-take should feel proper and as-new. Good luck!!!

    Re: buying a 2005 997 S

Great suggestion. I posted the request because I had read in the forum about some engine problems and other mishaps with 05 997's. Thank you.

    Re: buying a 2005 997 S

My main concern with such a low mile car would be why has the car not been driven. If is sat in a climate controled garage under a cover, great. However many non driven cars have spent their time in a body shop, or repair shop! some research should be able to determine problems of this nature.
Another thing to consider is condition of the rubber and other perishible materials on the car. Even though not used these parts degrade with time. I once purchased a very very low mile 911 that was in perfect condition only to discover that all the rubber and weatherstriping was rotted from non use and age. It cost a fortune to replace all of those parts.

    Re: buying a 2005 997 S

The car has been kept in an underground garage. Also worthy to mention is that the seller has multiple cars and only drives the 997 to a car club meeting held every other saturday at a restaurant nearby his home (5 miles). I will take the car to a dealer to do an inspection and pay attention to rubber and perishible parts. tks very much

    It sounds like a winner...

    Re: buying a 2005 997 S

    Welcome to Rennteam Lorenzo

Sounds like your seller should have enjoyed owning the car a bit more! His loss will be your gain! After all, he hasn't even completed the break in period yet!

Maybe he is a closet Rennteamer but doesn't know it yet?

Many congrats and welcome to the 997 family!

    Re: buying a 2005 997 S

Hi and congrates on your pending purchase. While at the dealer, you should have them give you a printout of the engine ECU to determine any issues, such as over-revs, etc. You may want to look at the underside of the car while its on a lift to see what you can learn i.e. paint overspray (means body work...), scrapes, etc.
