Re: Are Porsche selling many Caymans?

I dont understand why he is threatened either. That is the strange thing. I also dont understand why Dreamcar if you are so happy with your car you are always on this board. I have never been on a boxster board after i sold mine. Maybe that should tell you something about how happy you are with your decision. Think about it.

Re: Are Porsche selling many Caymans?

Take another look at the pic above posted by Beltar.

It clearly shows a Cayman nicely saving a 997 cab from displaying horrendous amounts of embarrasing suspension float and understeer in a corner.

I wouldnt get too jacked up about wich model is better. A professional or very experienced driver will leave most owners in the weeds. Walter Rohrl in a stock Cayman or Boxster, or even in a late 944 Turbo would crush the egos
of most new 997TT owners at the Ring.

So why did you say he was threatened then. By the way, I contribute to all the forums on Rennteam, not just the Boxster Board or the Cayman Board. For sure snide comments by someone who has contributed 5 posts won't stop me.

What are the actual technical differences between a Cayman and a Boxster anyway? NOT MUCH.

I think the Boxster and Cayman boards should be merged to reflect that fact.

Keeping them seperating them just deludes people into thinking they are really seperate engineering achievements and they are not.

Re: Are Porsche selling many Caymans?

I said I dont understand why he is threatened b/c i dont. But he is. Why else would he spend his time bashing the cayman whenever he can. You are right you have more posts then me. I guess according to you more posts=more knowledge?
I wish you could just enjoy your boxster S its an amazing car. To be honest with you I would prefer it to a base 997. But I would much prefer the cayman to either.

And more importantly, if owners of either car don't read the other boards (Boxster AND Cayman) they may be missing some useful and relevant posting.

I really don't agree with this 'The Cayman board is for Cayman owners only' nonsense!

In which case why would RC not just go out and buy one? He doesn't constantly knock the Cayman, either. If you think that every non-Cayman member of Rennteam feels threatened by the car and / or makes negative posts against the car then I don't think its them that has a problem.

Re: Are Porsche selling many Caymans?

Well i belong to other boards were boxster members actively participate in discussions and its great but its obvious that is not the intention of many if any members on here.

Again RC is an id#ot. He does constantly knock the cayman. Read his articles they always start with something like ..."the cayman is a nice car".. then he goes on to rip it. Its like saying your wife is nice but she is a whore. Just b/c you start by saying something positive doesnt mean that is the intention of your response.

Re: Are Porsche selling many Caymans?

Joshb1 you are being reactionary about RC.

He has never damned the car or given it a left handed compliment.

He has said whats up about it, and yes its true the Cayman has none of the cache of the 911 or its racing history or street presence. He's not making that up. Its true.

And its not RC's conspiracy plan that a 07 Boxster S recently outlapped by 1 sec a Cayman S at the 'Ring in a AMS test.

It is your fault if you are being too myopic and defensive to not see the Cayman for what it means to Porsche - more profit money from less cost - all from a new name added with a lower cost to build on the 987 platform. It isnt meant to be a 906 for this millenium.

Yes, Porsche coulda woulda do more on the Cayman, more power, better gears, blah blah, but the car is just a step in Porsches stair stepping marketing strategy - and a big part of that is Porsches maxim that they only compete with other Porsches - so think about that for awhile.

Stifle your rudeness please. Its not clever and makes you look naive and clueless. He pays the bills for this place, you don't. An apology from you is in order.

Re: Are Porsche selling many Caymans?

Ummmm he pays the bills? Do you know how much money people make off message boards? It is you who is naive and clueless. These places bank. He would have many advertisers for cayman products if he would stop knocking them. A cayman S has beaten a 997 on the track and a boxster s has beaten a cayman s. So a boxster s is faster on certain tracks then a 997. Yea I can live with that.

Re: Are Porsche selling many Caymans?

All this dribble is useless ...

    Everyone's perception is their reality.

The sad fact is that this forum does not have relevant Cayman facts as in extensive discussions on options, mods (e.g., catbacks, headers, etc.) or other things discussed usually in a car forum.

Instead, its endless bickering on which car is better.

Who cares? Your money, what do you care what others think?

IMHO, this forum would gain much more traffic if it would focus on the intricacies of the car rather than bashing.

This is a not for profit board.
    See any adverts? No.
    Get Spammed from it, No.
See any adverts for anything? No.
Get a clue if you can.

Re: Are Porsche selling many Caymans?

Wait a minute here!!! I don't see any advertising on this site... It's the main reason I became a member... You want a COMMERCIAL site... Goto the Cayman Club then you will get a lesson in commercialism as well as a lesson as to how to rip off the membership... What do I mean by that you ask? Well it's very simple... You solicit for donations from members while collecting fees from advertisers... You're either a non-profit organization supported by your membership or you're a commercial site... I think if people knew how much the site admin was making on the site the donations would shrink to a dribble.... Donations are something I give to worthy cause such as the "Make a Wish Fondation" or "Johns Hopkins Childrens Center" NOT a forum chocked full of advertisers that have paid advertising fees and/or sent equipment for the site admin to install on his personal vehicle... Of course the equipment is always sent for "evaluation"... Wouldn't we all like to get some FREE equipment while exploiting the thoughts and ideas shared by a forum membership... Give it some thought!!!

If you want this to be a true Cayman board then start talking about the car... Stop slamming one another and form an alliance... AND, respect everyone's opinion... I'm not being an idealist here; I'm being real...

Thank you for providing us with a FREE forum to express our opinions absent of any advertising!!!

    Thanks for listening...

Re: Are Porsche selling many Caymans?

Why is it, certain posters feel the need to state the same tired opinions over and over, if you want to start talking about lap times you're opening a can of worms which will leave a bad taste in the mouth of base 997 owners. The ability of people to pick out information that only suits they point of view is biggest surprise, constantly and without actual seeing the masses of independent information, it's the Rennteam bubble I suppose, a strange world, where a couple of stubborn people a trying to educate the rest of the world about how the Cayman is nothing more than a BoxsterS with a roof.

Lots of independent tests say it isn't, but these plucky members of Rennteam are on some sort of crusade to unearth the truth. Yeah right!

The sales figures and reviews prove the Cayman S naysayer completely wrong. Some people just won't see the "Real" truth, there happy to accuse other people of this, but can't quite grasp it for themselves

Regarding the question posed at the start of the thread.

    Are Porsche selling many Caymans?

    Yes they are!

Re: Are Porsche selling many Caymans?

The same tired posters post the same thing, I agree.
On BOTH sides of the arguement! Lets let it drop, shall we?

    Well said.

But if no Cayman owner starts a new non-baiting, non-sales thread soon, I'll have to start one myself! Come on guys!

Re: Are Porsche selling many Caymans?

Fair enough. I didnt look anywhere on this site for ads and I made a poor asssumption. The caymanclub is a great site but you are correct that it is biased towards advertisers. If you rip on one you will get ripped yourself.

Biased would be an understatement... Sometimes when you tear into an advertiser you even get suspended!!! I like it here and feel we can make this an excellent venue for Cayman owners... Plus there's a lot of other Porsche info on the site that you would never get on a site dedicated to a certain model...

    So true!

I posted that, I thought that Cayman owners had been ripped off, because the Boxster S now gets the 295BHP engine from the Cayman. The difference in engines justified the extra cost over the BoxsterS in my opinion. So when Porsche gave the Boxster the same engine as the Cayman S, I was Pi$$ed off. I expressed this opinion and was generally moaned at. Also said the engine lacked mid range Torque and this didn't go down to well either.

Hey, and you gave US so much grief for saying that!

See new thread on Torque graphs from the sales book - when I get chance to scan 'em in.

Re: Are Porsche selling many Caymans?

Porsche marketing spun the Cayman S launch as a vehicle with unique sporting attributes. Now they have let it
rest as just a Boxster alternative.

The car looks cool from 3 sides. A more aggressive front optik would have been nice, but it needs some special go power, handling, noise and interior bits to match the marketing. 997 gauges would have only cost them a few dollars more to include for example.

At my kids high school they think the Cayman is the coolest Porsche ever. The 911 is seen as something for old guys and the Boxster is just old news. I hope Porsche puts some magic into the Cayman soon.

Re: Are Porsche selling many Caymans?

I thought we weren't going to mention marketing any more!

Actually, I never said anything about that until now, I stopped using bb's for a while and then Porsche released the Boxster with the new engine. I could justify the Cayman price before, in my view, not now though.

You're a funny guy Josh, but I think most of us would prefer you to be funny elsewhere

RC blessed the internet with a great non-commercial Porsche board, I think he deserves some respect from its users, if you don't have that decency in you, then please play dumb elsewhere...

Re: Are Porsche selling many Caymans?

josh go elsewhere ...if you spent even a nano second discovering what rennteam is all about...you would realize its not the churlish behavior you have exhibited toward rc...who while he is resting no doubt manages to deliver an amazing consumer driven product that is not only free but informative and a lot of fun at the same time...

Re: Are Porsche selling many Caymans?

Stop stirring! Be nice. Josh has already apologised.

Re: Are Porsche selling many Caymans?

I did apologize and I think everyone on here misses the message. I think the site is great, I know that if I did purshase a 997 instead of my car i would use it more often. RC has done something special by not catering to advertisers on here which allows for real input. I do however think he strongly dislikes the cayman and too many people come on here to hate on the car. I wish those people would stop with their silly banter about the cayman s and instead provide insight into their experiences with the car.

Re: Are Porsche selling many Caymans?

I just had to chime in here. I bought my first Porsche in 1998, a 1999 Boxster. The reason I bought this car was that I wanted a new porsche not a used one. If could have afforded the "new" 911 (996) I still would not have bought it because I felt that it was too much a departure from the classic 911 lines. I wanted a 911 but I wanted a new car so I got the Boxster. When the Boxster S came out in 2000 I got one of those. I drove that car for 5 years. When the 997 was announced I immediately ordered one for two reasons. 1. I could finally afford it. 2. It regained the classic lines more or less. The shape and engine layout is the "classic" porsche car. The lines are the same as the original Porsche the 356. Yes Porsche has made numerous cars over the years at different price points but I have to agree with RC here. The 911 is the top model it is the classic Porsche and it will always be viewed as the real thing.

When I drove my Boxster I didn't always get waves from 911 owners, but I don't always get waves from 911 owners when I drive my 911.

Buy what you like, buy what you can afford. For me it's the 911
