    Laptimer for Trackdays?

I'm looking for a laptimer for trackdays. Please tell me your opinions.

    Re: Laptimer for Trackdays?

Do you have experience with this part?

    Re: Laptimer for Trackdays?

    Very popular timer is Hotlap
    Hotlap Timer

I own one, but I haven't used it extensively yet.

    Waiting for better weather

    Re: Laptimer for Trackdays?

    Thx Trundle and W8MM!

In the moment it is snowing here, so i will need mine not so early...

Can you tell me, how yours works?

    Re: Laptimer for Trackdays?

Can't tell much for now. I haven't really wrung it out so far.

I bought it for competitive evaluation and as a toy for taking measurements on my Carrera GT and comparing the data to other cars.

I'm a real believer in accelerometer measurements for vehicle/driver evaluations and bought this product based on my personl prejudices. I used to manufacture a device called the g.Analyst that recorded lateral and fore/aft g-forces and could graphically replay the results. This box from Race Technologies seems a bit like my g.Analyst, but with the addition of GPS.

Maybe somebody else on the board has had a chance to run the AX-22 completely through its paces. I probably won't until later this Spring.

I'll be able to compare future Carrera GT data to traces I took on the car below, ... with H-J Stuck at the wheel

    Re: Laptimer for Trackdays?

I use the Intercomp. I think it's smaller and more user-friendly than the Hot Lap. However, I noticed that on very sunny days, the infrared beam can be washed out and you'll lose some laps. Not an issue with the GPS...

    A track lap timer? Buy a 997!

That thing requires you to do it manually while you're driving - not very effective, IMHO

    Re: Laptimer for Trackdays?

true... sh*t, didn't think of that

Unless you have the multi-function wheel which I beleive allows you to also control the sports chrono.

    Was this a joke?

The 997 is a good performing car, but i'll never give up my GT3!

    No no KF,
I think what Joost meant is that, with the 997, you can order the Sport Chrono option, and with that Gizmo, you can time laps, that's all.

    Re: Laptimer for Trackdays?

I know this sport chrono package!

When i was on a racetrack, I had the chance to test it and it's sh*t.

Sorry. Everytime i tried to stop on the same point, i missed it. The laptimes are not exact! So it doesn't make any sense to stop the times.

Yep I know that too, it's been discussed before, apparently you have to press a button on the one of the sterring column devices.
    Not practical.
People should not be fooled, and Rennteamers certainly aren't
One should get the Sport chrono for it's sharper throttle response and PSM mods, not the chronometer.

    Re: Laptimer for Trackdays?

    You're right.

    Re: Laptimer for Trackdays?

cool down guys, I was just kidding.. I indeed meant the sport chrono
    I think I would not give up a GT3 for a 997 too.

Exactly, and it requires the driver to pull a stalk manually while he's trying to drive - not accurate and not conducive to fast laps...

Check out this device - highly recommended by some racers:
