    skid plates

Thanks for all the comments re the ball polished rims.

Here's another one for the team. Any views on having skid plates fitted to the F430? Anybody done it? Or is the clearence enough - at least better than the 360?

Don't have it on mine as I have seen it in person. Doesn't help a whole lot. Don't know if it's worth the money.

How ever be prepared for minor scrapes. It is in evitable! The F430 is one looooow car compared to your Porsches

Hi, skid plates are very popular in the US, here in Europe I don't see them very often. I never had skid plates so far and until now it never has been a problem so far. At least I am always aware which way I'm travelling and if there are humps, kerbs or bumps, I try to take another way.

The 355 for instance was a little bit of a problem, since its nose was rather long. The nose of the 360/430 is still long, but not as low as that of the 355. I already managed to hit the ground in the 430 once, but it wasn't at the front where the skid plates would be, but somewhere at the underbody, near the right rear wheel. It made a horrible noise inside the car and due to traffic I couldn't stop and have a look. I thought at least the half of my right side skirt must be missing and I felt absolutely awful, but when I finally could inspect it, I was pleased that you didn't see anything at all. Must have happened somewhere down below, I couldn't find anything at all.

But back to the skid plates. Sure, the 355 e.g. hit the ground once or twice, but that was never a problem. You'll get some minor scratches at a place where you won't see it, so skid plates are never a matter for me. Other may think different, I guess it's the same as the philosophy about clear bras.

    Re: skid plates

i think they are a must , at least in London . I will put some on the CS when i have bumper resprayed. Although the 430 has better clearance than the 360 , skid plates are still a wise investement IMHO

Tony - thanks for the stockists. Portugal is becoming like London with a developing love affair with speed bumps. In fact I have to go and take a pic of the largest bump in the world!! Neither Porsche can get over it!!

no prob the humps are PITA, eh

    Re: skid plates

Tony, the kind guys at Ferrari will order the same skid plates and fit them for me before I collect the car (they haven't seen these before and I think they think they're a great idea)

Save your money. I had skid plates on my 360's but the 430 does not need it. I rarely bottom out with the 430 compared to the 360. Also on those rare occasions when I do a skid plate would not made any difference.

Near my neighborhood, there are several speed bumps and I go over them in first gear slowly without braking and never bottom out.

What I would recommend is a clear bra on the front bumper. A must item.

    hi

the plates are model specific; the ones in pic are for for 430, i don't have any on my CS yet . If in doubt, call Paul Hill, he's a top guy

    Re: skid plates

    thanks

Those plates are manufactured by Premier Motorsports in Los Angeles. They are a collision repair shop and manufacture these amongst other things as well. I'm sure they already have some made for a CS or any other model. If not, they can make one. I own a set of these for my 430. They fit perfectly and the full length gives the front bumper a much more "finished" look cosmetically. Tip: I found that it is **much** cheaper to buy them through Parts at Ferrari of Orange County.

    Re: skid plates

I ordered the Ricambi ones and had them in hand but changed my mind at the last minute. My 3M installer made up custom skid plates for me out of multi layers of the heaviest gauge 3M body armour material. That way it could eaily be removed & replaced if torn and I especially liked the idea I didn't have to drill any holes in my car. They're also much less noticeable than the ones from Premier or Ricambi. And I'm less concerned that hitting underneath w/ put stress on the front end because they are about 1/2 the thickness of the ones from Premier. PLUS the cost was about half.
